Just bought the game for my kids after not playing it myself for 40 years. Watched this tutorial after watching the 70's opera / "You sank my battleship" commercial. Thanks for the refresher!
I never had this game when I was a kid, but I'd naturally heard of it. I'm an old man now and I'd be ashamed to say how many hours I've spent playing the computerized version, "Battling Ships", found in the Encore Classic Puzzle and Board Games. Played so much I have developed a strategy that wins most games I play. Thanks for the video. Got a chance to see how the real board game works!
The version of this game that I'm familiar with (from 40 years ago in the Netherlands) has an additional mechanic that makes it more interesting: Namely in addition to "hit" and "miss" there is a third possibility for the result of a shot, namely the "grazing shot" (Dutch "schampschot"), which is when your bomb lands on a square that is orthogonally or diagonally neighbouring to at least one ship. You need a 3rd color of pegs (yellow in the game I'm familiar with) to mark those. So this gives more information, but interpreting this information is not easy and makes the game a lot more interesting.
I'm here from the movie Battleship which was good...never knew how to play the game but thanks to this tutorial it actually looks really cool...this game was very popular back in my day i wish i would've took an interest in it then. I will be purchasing the game y'all 🙋🏾♀️😁 now that i know how to play this is gonna be a fun family night game
I have my son’s Battleship game from the early ’90s (minus one piece) trying to play with his son who’s twelve. Thanks ! We couldn’t have played correctly without your explanation😁
My brother and I played this a lot back in the day. We just called out one shot at a time, though, and did not tell each other what ship was hit until the ship was sunk. There is also a Salvo variation where you can call multiple shots at once, but the number goes down when ships are sunk.
And then in the Hasbro version, the three hole ship that was the Cruiser is renamed as the Destroyer and the original two hole Destroyer is renamed as the Patrol Boat. I wondered which is better between the Cruiser and Patrol Boat and why the little ship change.
No. I can only think of two reasons to track your opponent's misses. 1) You're teaching a small child and want to ensure they're not guessing the same spots multiple times. 2) You're playing competitively and want to track your opponent's guessing pattern for any hints allowing you to better position your boats the next time you play. Plus, you don't have enough pegs.
I played battleship 10 times , loosed 3 times and won 7 times. I have a strategy , my coordinates that i use to win is J 12345 for 5 points , I 2345 for 4 points and 345 for 3 point ships , i use E 789 for my 3 point and A 67 for 2 points.
Why? All it would mean is that the player who can call out or mechanically input guesses faster than the other has an advantage. Now, if you take a look at Captain Sonar, the real-time element adds something.
Hieronymus Pseudonymous / Why? Because in real time you could move while other shoots and you have to guess constantly instead of first hit will know the location permanently.
i thought the 5 ship were the potrol boat as the smallest one the submarine and the 1 by 3 the destroyer as the 2nd 1 by 3 the battleship as the 1 by 4 and the aircraft carier as the 1 by 5 i know i tell way too much detain of everything

Surely share your strategy. It'd be really helpful to everyone
@@pranildhakal1693 A little hard to do in pure text, not even stills to illustrate. Maybe a gameplay video would help.

"You sank my battleship" just about the time the game is thrown off the table.
Rage monsters all around me
This dialogue reminds me of Mr Chao...😂
Finally! Now we know. Bought my pack without any instruction paper.
One of my favourite games.

I got this as my birthday present I didn't know how to play it thanks for telling me how to play 🙏👍🙂
Thanks a lot buddy 😌💙
Doesn’t it make sense to mark your opponent’s misses as well as their hits on the bottom grid? Just to have a record?
No. I can only think of two reasons to track your opponent's misses.

Quick and informative. You gained a sub with this one. Thanks.

I got this from Christmas. I don't know how to play this. But thanks for the tutorial. One thing I did notice is that Yellow pegs are my hits not reds

Thanks a ton😊
I have a question; which side is the front of the battleship? Because i always get tricked with the long side.
Thank you for guidance
Thank you very much
Thank you very much for the info, my kids just love it....
You cant call out the same grid position twice right?
Thanks! So helpful!

I bought two knockoff versions from the dollar store, pieces need some modifying but I use 10 ships rather than five, makes the game last longer
Thank you so much!😊
thx for telling me how to play this game
Such a great help thank you
Very helpful for me. Thank you so much. Left a like :)
Good 👍👍👍👍
Thanks for the tutorial now I need to buy the game

@@sandracorley3944 one problem I'm from the Philippines East Asia and I don't see people selling it and it'll probably cost 5× much
@@ijvylvillaflores4711 Yeah! You'll probably have to get the "actual" one off of Amazon.
@@sandracorley3944 not alot of us use Amazon but thanks!

Is there a RTS version for this game which you don’t have turns like RTS chess?
What if someone lies and says miss when his been hit?
Thanks!
Thx now I know how to play🙂
Very helpfull ❤
To make it more fun. The player has to take a sip of beer each time he/she misses the target. 🤔😁
THIS IS MY STRATEGY TRAINING
Thanks buddy!!
Thanks it is very helpful 🔥
Thank you very good
No one explained the game in this way thanks I 100% understood
What if someone is cheating? how do you know the other player is not cheating?
just don't play with cheaters XD
Run out of white pegs on your side so you know when to slap the cheaters.
Doesnt it squirts water?
Thank u so much! For explaining the game in an easy way I’ll make sure to sub!
This is perfect thank you for sharing this information
cool thqnks
Thanks
Thank you!
We keep running out of pegs. We have 84 red pegs and 168 white pegs. Grid is 10x10. Where did we go wrong ?
I LOVE this
Thank u
What if my enemy lies?
HELPFULLL
When is it a draw?!
Thanks. Really helpful. Much appreciated
Wow, so cool, now where to buy one of these......
Marine. Battle ship. ( Real Marines battle ship battles and codes ect.. (. Building your ship. Placing it where the target should go. ) Pirates .
So why add a red in the grid and one in.the ship just add 1 in the ship and use white for the miss.
To help the 'hit'ter to make out patterns of locations of the opponents ships, and plan the next guess.
Alaaaaaaaa best nya yang tu
What's your intro song?
It’s from the iMovie stock song library.
That was a great tutorial!
This board game is so fun and easy
Love this game
What is the next game?
I don't recall naming the type of ship that was hit. It's a greater challenge to not know how big the hit ship is.
Is anyone else here because of Squid Game The Challenge? 😂
Yasss
Yes but I also had this game when I was a kid
Yeah😂😂
Yeah
Me 😂 I also purchased it along with Ghetto monopoly.
How cheating is avoided in the game?
I think after the game ends they crosscheck both platforms
I waited until my 30s noone knew how to play and thought it was going to be boring now its change my mind
Very simply explanatory.. thumbs up
Forever until now didn't know how this game worked an now I do so wanna play
"hit or miss"
Me: vietnam flashbacks
Friend : where tf are you ships?!
Me : I kept them at port haha
He can't sink a ship if I don't deploy them 😛
but u can't sink his ships if you aren't on the battlefield 😜
Why in the hell should i call what ship has been hit? it gives too much info
If you don't say that, playing will become very boring
Woah i like that game
thanks
"You sunk my battleship!"
-Jasper Beardsley (1999)
Is the game purely based on guessing?
Yes, although there are better and worse ways to guess: datagenetics.com/blog/december32011/index.html
So its based on honesty of both player. Damn i cant imagin if i play with my biggest liar friend.
i thought the 5 ship were the potrol boat as the smallest one the submarine and the 1 by 3 the destroyer as the 2nd 1 by 3 the battleship as the 1 by 4 and the aircraft carier as the 1 by 5 i know i tell way too much detain of everything
Yes
Sorry I've just now realized my grammar is shit
I used to play this with a sheet of paper
Very nicely explained
