Hey Grabriel! I've been trying the looping sort of slapping right hook that you showed in your previous video and it's a fantastic strike. I'm amazed at how well it works, your videos are incredibly educational especially to an up and coming kickboxer like me. Keep em coming.
Gazelle/Leaping Jab or Overhand, angle towards the left into a shovel hook to the liver, Left Uppercut. If the opponent shells up instead of an uppercut you use your left hand to grab onto their right elbow and your right hand to grab the top of their head and turn them while you take a step to the left on the outside and create an angle while pulling them into a knee to the liver.
I love how you describe how the opponent reacts to the strikes. Very practical and I can better visualize...especially with your live footage of course
I love the way you do the jab, cross, body hook combo. The other day I was partnered with another taller, skinnier friend who talked about how she feels vulnerable doing the deep inside and loaded up style of body hook and I went over this method as an alternative way of doing it.
Gabriel both of those flyod punches you made the video about were super effective and I was able to land especially behind the ear on lot of high level guys than me in sparring and it works best when thrown as fast as it can be.Thanks
What Boxing Gloves do you recommend that help me curl my hand into a fist even if I stay my hands relaxed? I'm currently experiencing hand pains because of how my current glove (nEverlast) forces my hand to open up instead of curling my hand into a fist, making me have to squeeze my hand with more force than I usually need to
@@kornelboyd154, I have long torso, skinny body type, I am around 60-63 kg and I have long hands. My Gloves are 12 oz. I don't have a measuring tape around the house so this is the best description I can give.
I have a question In Fencing and Jeet Kune Do, they stressed that in attacking, the Hand must move to the target slightly ahead before the foot moves so that the opponent will have less information and time to react to the attack. What do you think of this Fighting Principle?
You are not asking me, but I learned this weapon first style back in the day through Joe Lewis who learned it from Bruce Lee and it works very well. My only question here is do the large gloves diminish the power from it's use in kick=boxing?
Its a matter of momentum and how much you need it. In Fencing, momentum doesn't really matter afaik(you don't aim to knock anyone out, but score points by making contact with any force). Jeet Kune Do - you can probably raise your unpredictability like that, but you'd do that at the cost of power & upper body stamina. The advantage of the feet -> core -> shoulder -> triceps chain is that you can make powerful shots by transferring the power from your legs to the opponents face without relying on a single muscle group(let alone just arms - which would not only have less power, but also cause you to lose more stamina in your upper body, which you need to keep up your defence)
I think it's a bigger deal in Fencing then fisticuffs personally, there really is no such thing as a clear cut 'superior method' it's basically all situational. a quick opponent who uses movement or parries you may benefit from any trick to keep him from reacting in time even if it costs you a bit on the power side of the equation, against an opponent who is a bit more stationary and tends to 'turtle' up and block the punches, you don't need the speed advantage at all you just need to work around his guard and or add power to the shots to make sure they disrupt him.
I learned this from Dan Inosanto back in the 80s. I usually throw my jab like this. You can get plenty of power once you find the right coordination and it appears very fast to your opponent since the hand starts the motion. The secret is the foot has to land at the same time as or just before the punch so your momentum is transferred.
Your videos are awesome!! Love these combos!! Could you make a video to talk about the timing and tempo of combinations and how to change the tempo depending on the situation or reaction of the opponent. Keep up these videos!! (you touch upon it a bit at 2:25 in the video) Cheers!!
Any advice on how to hold back the power during technical sparring? I’m a lot bigger and strong than my opponent and my punches tend to split their guard no matter how much they try to shell up. The only other way I could hold back is by slowing down but I get constantly countered when I do that
You can practise this on the heavybag actually...punch the heavybag fast but try to use the distance so that you are barely "touching" it and not trying to hit through the bag. When you are doing this correctly the bag should not "swing", but more or less stay at the spot. Hope this helps
Dear Mr Varga. i love your channel and your tips, but there is something that im struggeling with, and i cant seem to get it right, and that is creating angles on my opponent. I feel like im stuck in front of him and he just has to turn slightly to catch up when i try to create the angle:/ can you maybe help. I feel if i can understand this it would seriously level up my game.
Good Point! Do you set up your angle with punches or are you just trying to cut an angle without doing anything before? Cutting angles is also more likely to work, when you evade und slip your opponent's punches and immidiatley change your position with good footwork. When you spar light it is much harder, because your oppent wont shell up when you attack him and follows you everywhere. Maybe try it with padwork where you have to evade and slip punches from the padman to get the movement right
Can you combine Mike Tyson's style for kickboxing? because I think my hand is stronger and faster than my kick btw I'm an amateur kickboxing athlete. Thank you.
3 perfect combos from the champ:
jab-cross-body hook
jab-jab-body cross-head hook
cross-uppercut-cross
youre an absolute king for posting these on here FOR FREE!!! thank you for helping us expand our knowledge in the sport!
I just found this channel today and watched like 10 vids. Good stuff.
gabriel this was great, please make more videos like this, going over combos
Check out his 'workout' style videos. He has a ton of combos in those

What is your guys favourite combo to throw? Something that lands for you often while feeling defensively safe.
Left uppercut to body then left uppercut to face 1-2
Gazelle/Leaping Jab or Overhand, angle towards the left into a shovel hook to the liver, Left Uppercut. If the opponent shells up instead of an uppercut you use your left hand to grab onto their right elbow and your right hand to grab the top of their head and turn them while you take a step to the left on the outside and create an angle while pulling them into a knee to the liver.
Double side kick and rear roundhouse or roundhouse and tornado kick
Jab-cross-jab, the way Mousasi, Usman and Nganou in his last fight throw it, where they shift their weight so the last jab is thrown as a cross
The third one is my favorite. Cross, up, cross
Sometimes I throw it 6 or 7 blows and those punches still landing
Thank you Gabriel! I'm watching this before my kickboxing class that you help me prepare for every week! 😀
The first combo you showed was the first combo I started practicing.
Bread and butter!
same
Very nice. I am gonna train it.
Thank you Gabriel.
These are gold! Thank you coach - used them. These totally work!
I love how you describe how the opponent reacts to the strikes. Very practical and I can better visualize...especially with your live footage of course
You are a great teacher. And your camera angles as you explain help so much. Thanks for the video!.
Crazy how this morning I was drilling exactly the first combo. Have an habit of leaning forward for the body Hook. Great video champ

Sounds like your gloves are too small for you. Try to follow this guide to find a matching fit: www.ringside.com/size-chart/
How big are you and what size are your gloves
Cleto Reyes and Hayabusa T3’s

Awesome. These types of videos are great. Thanks, Gabriel.
Got my first fight coming up and know I’ll need a couple high percentage shots to fall back on if hurt or tired. Thanks for this
It will be useful in my first amateur fight ;)
