- Spartans and Athenians considered the Macedonians as not being "proper" Greeks
- Macedonian Empire at its height under Alexander was a multi-ethnic empire
- Eastern Roman Empire (Byzantium) stretched from Illyria to Mesopotamia also a multi-ethnic empire
- Ottoman Empire, Greeks across Anatolia, the Levant, Thrace, Epirus, Macedon, and Egypt lived in multi-ethnic societies
The concept of a homogenous and ethnocentric country is a late 19th century concept and has existed for roughly 80-100 years. Greeks throughout history were part of multi-ethnic societies. The reason we have such a rich cuisine, culture, and music is a testimony to this. I am very proud to be Greek, but I am not delusional or uninformed. The rest is nationalistic zealousy...
