Very true. I think that’s largely because the characters were all humanized. For example, when the guys were eating and just being young people chilling out. Notice how the dude said he’s going to his lady’s house and his homeboy is going home with his pop. They were still kids themselves. Very heavy scene and movie overall.
@@IKnowImGayWhenISayThisBut in context, none of the three hitters said anything to Trey bc they knew he had an actual future ahead of him. They didn’t. That’s what Doughboy says to him in the final scene. Doughboy knew that the onus was on him to complete the job bc throughout the movie he always stood up for his brother Rickey. No matter what, they all would have to live with the guilt stemming from Rickys death. And it just so happened that Doughboy was killed two weeks afterwards.
Tre's dad when he came out the room wanted to tell Tre something bad. In that little scene you could tell he was angry and upset he left but glad he was home. He knew his son made the right decision by NOT going. Plus Ricky just died so he felt empathy 😊. Great scene
I took something similar from this too. His dad probably understood tre cuz his friend got shot in front of him and died in his arms. But at the same time he was mad obviously at Tre but probably mad at himself too. For not moving out that environment for Tre to even go through that. He wanted to tell him something but what can you really say to someone especially your child, when they seen someone they love die in there arms, from some bullshit. And it’s not like Ricky was in a gang too he was just walking to the store. Powerful scene. So much to take from this
I feel that scene as a dad. Sometimes you feel like you have to scold/punish your child but because they made a right decision or told the truth etc. you also feel like coming down on them will teach them that doing the right thing doesn't matter. And in the end you don't know what to say and can only let your presence be seen and felt and then walk away. In those situations you NEVER feel like you made the right decision because you don't know what it was. But you have to keep being there and keep trying and make sure your kid knows it.
I love the one comment I remember seeing on a Boyz n Da Hood Comment : _"Damn, Monster is on point with that AK-47, even while shooting from a moving vehicle, his targets are moving and he's shooting in the dark."_
1:44 still makes me shed a tear as the horn of the music score blows knowing that Ricky pass the S.A.T. and it’s sad bruh didn’t make it to college over some bs
It’s because furious couldn’t answer the young brothers question when he was speaking in Compton. It’s kill or be killed in those environments. Either you gone be a predator or the prey. Sometimes tryna do right is gambling with your life. You see what happened to rick
The only thing this scene makes me feel is crying. My cousin loved this movie and for being in the wrong steps he was gunned down 5 years ago. When we were kids He always cried at the scene where that boy got out of the Impala. May my cousin rest in peace
Killing his brother's killers was all he thought he had left. His delaying their deaths wasn't to make them suffer it was to hold onto life a little longer. It broke him, he died that night his actual death was inevitable at the point.
What hits hard is no matter how much dough boy fought with his little brother Ricky, deep down he always loved him. And that Is true to this day, having siblings myself.
Doughboy knew at that moment that avenging Ricky wouldn't make the pain stop but he still had to do it. Can't have your brother's killer alive out there, living, while your brother in the ground, that ain't right!
I felt so bad for DB! And I can also relate to him. A mother who didn't give damn about you, but loves her other kids, due to whatever problems she has had with a past relationship. So I understand that DB just wanted his mother to love him, and by his mother picking, and choosing which child to raise, only created jealousy, and animosity in the household. I can relate a million times! This is real life! DB never had his mother, he lost his brother, that'll make anyone go off the deep end. I'm just glad that I didn't.
J Cole actually made a song about it called "middle child"... I know doe and Ricky didn't have another sibling, but same thing.. that middle child shit is wild

That AK 47 Monster has is a Chinese Norinco. At one time you could buy one for $75.00 at a gun shop. But after that school shooting in Stockton California they got ban from being sold.
I love how Doughboy is irritated about it but he LETS trey get out of the car with no argument, because he KNOWS he doesn't belong there. A thug with a heart bro.
I think the reason Doeboy gets out of the car and murders Ferris at point blank range is because he is desperate to feel the satisfaction he believes getting revenge for his brother will bring him. Then you can see the puzzlement in his face right after he shoots him when he feels no different. I think the theme that was trying to be conveyed by the scene is that revenge and violence achieves nothing. It doesn’t make people feel better to get revenge, it just leaves them feeling empty and continues the cycle of misery. Truly one of the best movies of all time.

Every man has to choose & go his own way. To me Tre made the right move. I believe in putting things in Gods hands & not taking revenge. That said I respect the choice Doughboy made & I understand why he did it
Sad how Tre was closer to Ricky than Dough was...his actual brother. The fact Dough let Tre out the car spoke volumes. Cube knew that just like Ricky wasn't about that life, Tre wasn't bout that life either. He had to be bout that life for both of them. Powerful.
From the start of the film they foreshadow the end, “gimme my brothers ball back!” dough settled the beefs in the hood for his brother from the beginning
@@Indervallervooooooo that's right just like that night on Crenshaw when Ferris started that shit and bumped rick in the 1st place dough got out and squashed it quick
What I really loved about this scene isn't that Tre just dutifully listens...he STILL sneaks off to go with Doughboy and Monsta to get revenge. But the impact of the father is felt in the car...the weight of that presence in his life, the lessons...he realizes this is a life altering thing that's going to happen and not in a good way...and rightfully asks to get out. And Doughboy, to his credit, obliges. Teenagers will test your gangsta no matter how well you raise them. But the idea is, if you raise them right, eventually they make the right decisions BECAUSE of how you raised them.
Naw. He heard Monsta Slap that magazine inside that choppa and said "Yeeaahhh. Tre Said naaawww. He realized them boys wasn't just out riding. They really going to get revenge
I thought of it more of a realization of the act of horror he had just committed. He elaborates later about this realization when he acknowledges that he has become a statistic and will die a statistic and no one will ever give a fuck.

@kingblack296 after all these years I never thought about that til just now. 4 different mother's and 4 different funerals. Then one mother had to do it again 2 weeks later with the other son.
This is one of those "hard to watch twice" movies. That doesn't mean it's bad, it means the realism is so nicely done, that it actually gets my anxiety going. Movies rarely have that effect on me anymore; yeah, lots still leave me on the edge of my seat, but there's no true anxiety. That's how brilliant this movie is. And Ice Cube really proved his acting skills! I see so much hate because he's in a lot of comedies, but this here is an unforgettable piece, not just his skills, but this movie for its realism and message.

That AK 47 Monster has is a Chinese Norinco. At one time you could buy one for $75.00 at a gun shop. But after that school shooting in Stockton California they got ban from being sold.
So it's the shitty version of the REAL AK-47 that come from Russia?
Sad part is some of these guys died in real life.
"There day go right derr" always cracked me up.
I always assumed it but it was the same boys they punked Doughboy when he was a kid right.
Nah see I thought that too but the dudes that punked them were Crips too.
Sad thing bout this movie is they're killing there own people 😞so much hatred in this world
I love how Doughboy is irritated about it but he LETS trey get out of the car with no argument, because he KNOWS he doesn't belong there. A thug with a heart bro.
I know right. I always knew how irritated he was, but he still let him out.
Dough learned a lot in prison and respected that Trey wasn't part of The Life

@@shanedpain7734 you really talking about a character's life like that? lmao!!
He pulled off immediately afterwards lol
I think the reason Doeboy gets out of the car and murders Ferris at point blank range is because he is desperate to feel the satisfaction he believes getting revenge for his brother will bring him. Then you can see the puzzlement in his face right after he shoots him when he feels no different. I think the theme that was trying to be conveyed by the scene is that revenge and violence achieves nothing. It doesn’t make people feel better to get revenge, it just leaves them feeling empty and continues the cycle of misery. Truly one of the best movies of all time.
And yet... nobody ever suggests anything better.
Great analysis.
@@Lightner445555555555 Well some people say seeking forgiveness is better than seeking vengeance. However, if I was in Doeboy’s situation I would definitely want vengeance as well lol.
@@hmonsta1189 Appreciate it. Just my thoughts. I have no idea if that was what Singleton really wanted to convey.
The power of John Singleton.

No, I am not. Why did you ask if I was White?
Trey made the right choice and Doughboy respected that
That's why tre wanted to get out of the car
@@thepromiseman7745 noooo really? Damn how did I not guess that?
@@senpai4454 tre did that for brandi not Ricky .. because he wanted to be across the way in college with her. But he never went
Brother from another mother
Every man has to choose & go his own way. To me Tre made the right move. I believe in putting things in Gods hands & not taking revenge. That said I respect the choice Doughboy made & I understand why he did it
Monster has incredible accuracy. Hit three moving targets at night time from a moving vehicle with shades on.
gangsta mechanics
He would probably be really good at call of duty
that's from playing duck hunt lol
Boa he had a K!!! 😂
U hitting at least 2 with a K
And that was for Ricky
Mfs was ready to kill the whole night
accuracy so good that if ol boy in the black survived he woulda been paralyzed and amputated from the 2 knee shots and direct spine shot 😂
When your homeboy on parole and still down to put in work with you for situation that deep, he definitely a ride or die friend
Have you ever heard of the word "is"?
I wouldn’t have waited I would’ve jumped in the driver seat and picked up doughboy
Sad how Tre was closer to Ricky than Dough was...his actual brother. The fact Dough let Tre out the car spoke volumes. Cube knew that just like Ricky wasn't about that life, Tre wasn't bout that life either. He had to be bout that life for both of them. Powerful.
TBF a lot of people are closer to their friends than their actual siblings
From the start of the film they foreshadow the end, “gimme my brothers ball back!” dough settled the beefs in the hood for his brother from the beginning
@@DuceVasquez215 yeah you right.
@@Indervallervooooooo that's right just like that night on Crenshaw when Ferris started that shit and bumped rick in the 1st place dough got out and squashed it quick
Dough was in and out jail that’s part of the reason they wasn’t close
What I really loved about this scene isn't that Tre just dutifully listens...he STILL sneaks off to go with Doughboy and Monsta to get revenge. But the impact of the father is felt in the car...the weight of that presence in his life, the lessons...he realizes this is a life altering thing that's going to happen and not in a good way...and rightfully asks to get out. And Doughboy, to his credit, obliges. Teenagers will test your gangsta no matter how well you raise them. But the idea is, if you raise them right, eventually they make the right decisions BECAUSE of how you raised them.
Well said
Totally agree
Yep my mom. I still hear her voice when I make big choices. Good or bad..
Fr
Naw. He heard Monsta Slap that magazine inside that choppa and said "Yeeaahhh. Tre Said naaawww. He realized them boys wasn't just out riding. They really going to get revenge
The moment he realizes that killing Ferris isn't going to take away the pain of losing his brother... such a powerful scene
I thought of it more of a realization of the act of horror he had just committed. He elaborates later about this realization when he acknowledges that he has become a statistic and will die a statistic and no one will ever give a fuck.
@@Kyle2516 That's a very realistic and sad way of putting it. However, I'm in full agreement with you 💪💯

I really respect the fact that Doughboy and the other fellas didn't clown on Trey for getting out of the car. They knew he wasn't about that.
That wasn’t a time for clowning bro even though he may not have respected tre for getting out the mission still had to continue we can deal with that later
@@bluebloodroyalty8012 Nah I get that man but the fact they didn't say anything to Trey shows they respected him. I know fellas who would clown on you and call you a pussy for backing out of something even less serious than this. Trey wasn't about that sort of life and they recognised it. Didn't try to pressure him or make him feel like a coward, just let him out of the car and did their business. There's sharks out there who would have forced the gun into Treys hand in this scenario.
