Before Calvin, Christ is, was and always will be! MacArthur and many others (me included) simply follow doctrine as prescribed by Christ Himself. Many call this Calvinism and therefore have a predisposition of being sceptic and deeper even, heretics! Calvin had a greater understanding of the gospel than most.

It’s interesting that many people are vastly mistaken about Calvin, making him to be cold, unemotional, and promoting theological precision over a personal relationship with Christ.
If you actually read Institutes, you find that the real Calvin is far different. He had an unquestioned concern for the lost, and comes across far more emotional and empathetic than his reputation indicates.

@@rockhopper01 This is true. Many do misinterpret Calvin and there are many arminians being misled because of this.

@@rockhopper01 Calvin's teaching is solid. The problem he has was in his Era if a pastor proclaimed one a heretic the person was burned at the stake. Calvin did this to a person knowing he would be burned to death.
Calvin didn't participate in the burning, the council did the burning. That's the grievance against Calvin. But like I said at the first his theology is rock solid and we have benefited greatly from his written Word.
Sometimes great things come out of tragedy. The apostle Paul is another example òf a wrong that gave us the greatest apostle of all time.
Calvin shouldn't be judged by that one incident .

"their judgment from long time ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep" (2 Pet 2:3), "whereunto also they were appointed" (1 Pet 2:8), "who were before old ordained to this condemnation" (Jude 1:4), "for whom the black darkness has been reserved forever" (Jude 13).They are ordained for judgment.Their fate has been sealed, and they are doomed to eternal destruction (2 Thess. 1:9).

The Holy Spirit isn't going to lead to men into error. So dont credit Arminian heresy with having anything to do with the Holy Spirit.
