  • Ooooofff, it's another biggg video! I've been getting lots of questions about what it's like to study medicine at the Uni of Nottingham and so I put together this video which covers all aspects of the course from your very first term at university up until clinical placement! I cover the teaching methods, optional modules, placements and most importantly the BMedSci project that Nottingham is famous for (and something I didn't quite understand when I applied!).
    I really hope this is helpful as it's something I wish I had've had before applying :)
    Subscribe for more videos on UoN, med school and my daily life! Thank you for all my subscribers so far, there's so many of you ahhhh!

    Here's a link to my other video where I talk in some detail about the various teaching methods: • My First 2 Years of Me...
    Oh, and OF COURSE here are the time stamps for those of you who don't want to sit through 18 minutes of me talking, skip to the bit you want:
    1:24 - first term of 1st year - how the course starts!
    1:58 - teaching methods in years 1 and 2
    3:06 - FULL BODY DISSECTIONS!
    4:26 - other components of the pre-clinical course
    5:53 - optional modules in years 1-3
    9:17 - the BMedSci explained!
    11:37 - 3rd year explained (the weirdest year ever)
    14:02 - the research project itself and what it's like to write a dissertation
    16:25 - clinical placements - the hospitals you might end up in
    sub count = 453

    Thank you for your honest and balanced review. I find it fascinating how the medical school curriculum has changed from my time when I entered medical school 33 yrs ago! At that time all medical courses were essentially what you would now call ‘traditional’ - 2 years preclinical and 3 years clinical with an optional intercalated BSc after yr 2.

    Hey Lucy! This was very helpful, thanks a lot! Would it be possible for you to do a more in-depth video about the different modules offered in each year and how they are assessed? Thank you!

    Lucy, fantastic video. I was particularly focused on the few negatives you talked about - the shorter program in general and the lower points system that helps in foundation placements. When you talk to friends at other medical schools in the UK, or based on your own research when you applied initially, are you able to comment on what other medical schools seem to address these areas better?

    I didn’t rly understand why you only have a 3 week holiday in year 3. Is it because you finish year 3 very late or do you start year 4 early? Also what month would this 3 week holiday take place ? - thanks

    • @drlucyrebecca2736
      @drlucyrebecca2736  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I Ogunwale it’s both really! Normally at uni the final exams for the year are end of May/early June and then the next year starts in September. For medicine at Nottingham, 3rd year ends at the end of June and then 4th year starts mid July. I will only have 2 weeks holiday in between. It’s because we fit a 3 month research project into third year as well as placement!

      Lucy Brett Do all 3rd year students have to do this 3 month research project

    • @drlucyrebecca2736
      @drlucyrebecca2736  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes it’s embedded into the course. There are pros and cons of it which I explain at 9:17 in this video! Just be warned that the clinical years in all medical schools are different to other university courses, im not sure what the summer holidays are like at other med schools but they might not be that long either!

    This was so helpful! Is there any difference between medicine at lincoln centre and at the other campus? I'm pretty sure it said on the website you have to apply separately and that you can apply to both.
