I once read that shopping malls used to play his music when they wanted to drive out teenagers when too many of them were hanging around. That tickled me pink.
@Imani M I'm glad you liked the story. I've always been a contrarian myself, so I probably would have wanted to stay, too. Two things you should check out on TH-cam: Connie Francis sang a lovely version of "The Bells of St. Mary" many years ago - I'm not generally a fan of hers - and Bing Crosby and David Bowie sang a famous duet on a Crosby Christmas Special from the 1970's, singing "Little Drummer Boy" and "Peace on Earth." Crosby didn't know who Bowie was, but his kids were very excited their dad was working with him. As far as I know, the two of them got along famously.
My dad had a voice that sounded just like Bing Crosby, and I remember him singing around the house when I was growing up. Now when I hear Bing it's a find memory of my dad....
Ingrid Bergman was so angelic and this really reminds me of my NY Irish Catholic grammar school days when the nuns still wore the same Dominican habits.
I had nothing but respect an Admiration for those women dedicated their lives to their vocation and beliefs, Educated Saint Aloysius school Ridgewood Queens New York City, thank you sisters…
Just saw this movie for the first time and this part really stood out to me. Those angelic voices really complimented Bing so beautifully. Gives me the chills.
Sending this video to my Mom Mary Rose Conroy Zawoyski (1924 - 2011) in heaven. The song she taught to my 2 sisters and me in the bathroom for the great acoustics it provided. Love you Mom❤️G
Aloha Bing Crosby and nicoley133 !!!! Loved this song "The Bells of St. Mary's." I remember seeing this inspirational movie and love all the characters and especially, Bing Crosby !!!! Grateful fan, Robert S.J. Hu August 2 6, 2020.
Beautiful! I belong to "St. Mary's" church in New Baltimore, Michigan, and sometimes our Handbell Choir will perform this song during Mass. Love this movie. Thanks so much for posting. Happy New Year everyone!
I was glad that this song was played over the p.a. system when I worked for Ollie's Bargain Outlet in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania (going to Wilson College) from 2015 - 2017 during the Christmas season. It always gave me a nostalgic feeling, as it does now.
"Oh bells of St. Mary's, we always will love you With your inspiration, we never will fail Your chimes will forever, bring sweet memories of you So proudly ring out, while we sing out Hail, hail, hail"
Just watched this movie for the first time for Christmas 2023. This and the ending are my two favorite scenes. Such a pure and peaceful melody and story
I'm a lover of all good music, especially doowop from the 50's and 60's, but I've always loved to hear Bing's beautiful voice singing. This song and, of course, White Christmas from "Holiday Inn" are two of my favorite Bing Crosby songs.
I just love this song. It brings tears to my eyes. A girlfriend of mine, when we were about eight yrs. old, would sing this to me when I stayed over night. It put me to sleep!
Oh, bells of St Mary's We always will love you With your inspiration We never will fail Your chimes will for ever bring sweet memories of you So proudly ring out While we sing out Hail! Hail! Hail! So proudly ring out While we sing out Hail! Hail! Hail! Won't you ring them bells?
This song and the way it's sung here as well as the movie (which I have) holds special meaning for me since for 8 wonderful years I attended St. Mary's School in Oakland, Calif. I have to say, that not only because of this movie, but the wonderful nuns and especially the principal at the time I was there influenced me to consider becoming a nun myself. Of course, with the last two years I was there and having a different principal and then having to attend public high school, everything drastically changed. Still love the movie and especially this song. Thanks so much for posting.
I absolutely agree with you, How my beautiful beloved parents loved those two films. The smiles on their darling old faces meant the world to. There was only ever one magnificent Bing. God Bless him and my beautiful parents. Sing with God’s holy angels.
I just lost my husband 1 month ago...he used to wait for me to come home from holiday when we were very very young to watch this movie...as time went on...we waited for the Grateful Dead New Years...This year...I don't know...
One of the best movies ever made! "Boys Town" was another of my favorites. My VERY favorite is "It's a Wonderful Life." Love the movies of the '40's, '30's, and '50's. Thanks so much for this video!!
A lifetime favorite for over 60 years for me. This song makes me tear up every time. PS Another great Christmas movie featuring nuns is, “Come to the Stable” with Loretta Young and Celeste Holmes.
At the end all the nuns were looking at each other like "Should we stay in character or not?" Looks to me like Bing threw that in there impromptu just to see what happened!
‘The Bells of St Mary’s’ is a 1917 song by A. Emmett Adams and Douglas Furber. They wrote it after hearing the bells of St Mary’s Church in Southampton. Besides Bing Crosby singing it in this film, a version by the Drifters was also used in ‘Goodfellas’.
I got goosebumps when i heard this song, its been 10 years since i saw this movie and it just came to mind, i was so happy to find this clip, Thank you for posting this magnificent clip!!!!
These are Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Someone said Donovan but, my cousin is a Domican Sister. Their habits are black veils and white dresses.#Catholic girl
Until last month, I had no idea this movie existed nor the song was original. I tossed on an old Chet Atkins instrumental record I thrifted from a yard sale and the first song was "The Bells of St Marys" My memory immediately flashed back to elementary school and the lyrics flowed like I knew the song all my life. I attended a St Marys Catholic school in Pennsylvania and this was our school song we all sang after assemblies and other meetings. How time flies...
From my childhood.. impressed and stayed and inspired me.. sweet movie.. Bing Crosby. Great actor as well as singer. Ingrid Berman was beautiful..and great actress... Climb every. Mountain. I'd sing in the outhouse. Daddy would remark to. Mpm. That I sound like a movie star.
I much prefer Bing's first turn as Father O'Malley in Going My Way. In his wonderful biography of Crosby, author Gary Giddins postulates that Bells is actually a prequel to Going My Way and that theory makes a lot of sense. Father O'Malley seems much more wise and mature in Going My Way than he does in Bells.
I just discovered that Ingrid Bergman was not only in this film as Sister Benedict, but she also directed the Swedish Film "Wild Strawberries". On You Tube it is available in Swedish with English subtitles. 'Wild Strawberries' is a study on 'Old Age'.
※ Lyrics: (Ding-dong, ding-dong) Oh bells of St. Mary's We always will love you With your inspriration We never will fail Your chime Will forever Bring sweet memories of you So proudly ring out While we sing out Hail, hail, hail So proudly ring out While we sing out Hail, hail, hail (Ding-dong, ding-dong) Won't you ring them bells!

Every time I hear two local church where I live in Manchester UK 🇬🇧 there bells sound like the song The bells of st mary's The Bells of St. Mary's Ah, hear they are calling The young loves, the true loves Who come from the sea And so my beloved When red leaves are falling The love bells shall ring out, ring out For you and me The Bells of St. Mary's Ah, hear they are calling The young loves, the true loves Who come from the sea And so my beloved When red leaves are falling The love bells shall ring out, ring out For you and me
It's just my guess, mind you, but as the son of a sometimes mischievous character actor (live and on stage!), I still would bet that the last line was rehearsed and that all of the performers were in on it. They're all professional actors, after all, and pros can act surprised when needs must. But it was a great line, I totally agree, and really added to the scene.
I've always wondered why this movie is associated with Christmas. The only holiday scene is the little kids' Christmas play. Love the movie just the same.
Because the movie ended just before Christmas Holiday.... And Ingrid thanked Bing for the gift of truth at the end......when she found out she wasn't being transferred due to a personality conflict. It healed her heart and restored her weakened faith .... Great Movie ...............
My 73 year old wife, formerly widowed had lost her Christmas Spirit. This movie brought it back. THANK YOU "YOU TUBE"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the only kind of movie I watch anymore.
You have taste.
@@Juliaflothey certainly do
I miss Bing Crosby's voice and his movies. His voice was so soothing and mellow and in the those days movies were clean and pure.
I once read that shopping malls used to play his music when they wanted to drive out teenagers when too many of them were hanging around. That tickled me pink.

It reminds me of better days, family pride/structure, reverence for the Church... peace!!!
My dad had a voice that sounded just like Bing Crosby, and I remember him singing around the house when I was growing up. Now when I hear Bing it's a find memory of my dad....
Our generation is fast leaving merry christmas
This film should be in everyone’s collection , along with ‘’Going My Way” ; Bing sings lovely songs in both of these gems.
I love his version of Shepherd Me O God.
I have them all
Ingrid Bergman was so angelic and this really reminds me of my NY Irish Catholic grammar school days when the nuns still wore the same Dominican habits.
I had nothing but respect an Admiration for those women dedicated their lives to their vocation and beliefs, Educated Saint Aloysius school Ridgewood Queens New York City, thank you sisters…
This reminds me of my Creole Catholic family
In the fifties, anyway, Dominicans wore white habits
Just saw this movie for the first time and this part really stood out to me. Those angelic voices really complimented Bing so beautifully. Gives me the chills.
"so proudly ring out, while we sing out...hail! hail! hail!"
oh bless you bing crosby always!

Heaven has TH-cam? No ads, I hope. 😄
“They just don’t make ‘em like this any more!!”
I agree, they most certainly don't.
And, because they don't, among other factors, look at our society...
Well yeah it already got made
Bing Crosby looks so cute singing this. Yes we learned the song
I've always loved Bing Crosby's beautiful singing voice!
We need more movies like this.
Copy that.
I got done watching going my way and the bells of st. Mary’s with my grandparents and absolutely loved it
Aloha Bing Crosby and nicoley133 !!!! Loved this song "The Bells of St. Mary's." I remember seeing this inspirational movie and love all
the characters and especially, Bing Crosby !!!! Grateful fan, Robert S.J. Hu August 2 6, 2020.
Love it! Reminds me of my Catholic grade school. The Nun's habits are almost alike except for the bib. Good memories of that time!.
The BEST, most wonderful baritone voice I've ever had the privilege of hearing!
Beautiful! I belong to "St. Mary's" church in New Baltimore, Michigan, and sometimes our Handbell Choir will perform this song during Mass. Love this movie. Thanks so much for posting.
Happy New Year everyone!

Bing had the most beautiful eyes and face. I thought he was the most handsome of all the leading men in Hollywood.
Very true :) And with that voice, if you don't get attention from girls, then who will...
Thank God Don Rickles didn't read your comment! 😉
But seriously, when he was maybe 5 or so years younger, Harry Lillis could have given Cary Grant a run for his money.
Just love the "The Bells of St. Mary's." Thank you Bing Crosby and nicoley133 for this posting. Sincerely, Robert S.J. HuMay 1, 2020.
Bing certainly had a listenable voice and then some.
Another of my favourite films. I love these type of films.
Great hymn! Always brings tears to my eyes every time I watch this movie. This was also one of my Mom's favorite movies.

Beautiful and poignant film . And Bing singing fabulous thank you .
I love this piece of music. It was my Alma Mater from college with different lyrics.
Oh, bells of St Mary's
We always will love you

Yes, it's sung do beautifully here.
This was my mom's favorite movie, may she rest in peace. When I see this movie, tears begin to flow , especially at that part.
I just realized the nun at the piano is Ingrid Bergman!
She plays Sister Benedict in the movie.
Yep...that's her!
So fun when a realization like that "rings!"
I absolutely agree with you, How my beautiful beloved parents loved those two films. The smiles on their darling old faces meant the world to. There was only ever one magnificent Bing. God Bless him and my beautiful parents. Sing with God’s holy angels.
Angelic voices! Love it!

This was my High School Song. I attended St Mary's High School in Chicago in the late 60s.
One of the best movies ever made! "Boys Town" was another of my favorites. My VERY favorite is "It's a Wonderful Life." Love the movies of the '40's, '30's, and '50's. Thanks so much for this video!!
On TH-cam Bing Crosby sings a song that is in
Bells of St Mary's called In The Land of Beginning Again. I can play it over and over again.
Sublime!
A lifetime favorite for over 60 years for me. This song makes me tear up every time.
PS Another great Christmas movie featuring nuns is, “Come to the Stable” with Loretta Young and Celeste Holmes.
Dedicated to my late mother. I love you mother! Rest in peace with Jesus!
Thank God ! Forties and Fifties .... those were the miracle decades ..... When America seemed holy itself ....
Infiltration and subversion has destroyed America by Communists. TV is unwatchable hollyweird music is unlistenable.
I remember watching this movie when I was little.
I know it will be on tv around christmas time... or you can get it on dvd. Time for you to watch it again ....
I live by St Marys church Southampton. The church that the song was inspired by
How sweet! I watch this EVERY year at Christmas ❤
beautiful song sung well by Bing
Great film. Ingrid Bergman looked angelic she steals it.
At the end all the nuns were looking at each other like "Should we stay in character or not?" Looks to me like Bing threw that in there impromptu just to see what happened!

Very warm and sad emotions .. Loved Bing
It just popped in my head and I had to hear him sing it like he did in the movie. They're all so Angelic. I love to hear this.

WE NEED MORE VOICES LIKE BING.
I loved this :D That last line wasn't rehearsed for, was it? Everyone look surprised. It made the video so much better, though.

Bing's best.
I love this!
Beautiful
+Val Jemmott "Bing" has a wonderful voice, but I love the voices of the "sisters' on this song
Beautiful.
This is just pure Christmas in a song.
the great Bing-
Joe Hawks sings Bing in Hemet CA.
A Christmas Story,,, Or Miracle on 34th Street. I am with you.
I never realized before that the lyrics in the movie aren't the same as what was released in a studio recording.
So thankful for my Catholic faith. Thank you, Bing, for your love of the Church.
