Ngl, the antidote to a low on spoons boring life is discipline and a confidence boosting playlist. Discipline + delulu suddenly gives a lot more meaning to life. Also I literally procrastiwork so much.. gurl o wasted my January being depressed when I could’ve grinded the course..
I love the early release schedule on your videos. They are such nice morning companions as I start the day with all its routines. Okay, so I’ve made some interesting observations during my art making here recently. For a while I tried to come to the sketching and drawing field with ideas or themes I wanted to explore. There was always some resistance in doing that. But this past year I’ve moved towards just ‘aimless making’. Letting the hand and my impulses guide me somewhere. It has lead to better results with less resistance, but the interesting thing for me is what follows. As I start settling into the piece and get about half way, I’ve started to examine the things going on, and the craziest shit happens. It almost feels like deciphering a dream. I’ll research the aspects in the art and find some synchronicities to my life or to other elements in the piece…and that funny feeling that something bigger is going on just creeps in and can’t be ignored. Like we are conduits for what needs to come through. So it was cool to hear you touch on this briefly in the video! Thanks for your hard work on the channel. It helps shine a light when the creative world, really the world at large, is in upheaval.
I am in the same boat as Sandra. I have been drawing seriously for the past 9 years and I have no clue where I want to go with my art or what sort of pictures I want to draw. I do enjoy two different worlds. Tight rendering representational type art and form but also comic style drawing and learning to draw the human form from imagination. I feel like I want to say something with my art but at the same time I fear I don't have anything to say. I am doing that thing where I am not completing many pictures and sketching a lot rather than working on a piece, but then I don't know what piece to work on. Its a very confusing place to be right now.
A big break through for me was insisting on finishing some pieces. At first I finished the stuff I was sketching- simple studies- and it took so long that after just a couple I knew I needed to make the next one more interesting and personal or else I’d never get through it. But finishing the boring ones is what created the necessary desire for that.
I dunno Steven, I can understand why folks may find it…misleading to say “meditation is supposed to be enjoyable” when 99% of anyone beginning, it’s going to be a confounding and irritating experience…. because it’s like…directly bringing us face to face with our conflicts with the present moment and our groundfloor discomfort with being “here”. So if someone begins a practice thinking “this is gonna be peaceful, relaxing or even fun” and finds (in most likelihood) that this is not their experience, it can further tighten their grip on self and so on that meditation is supposed to bring them somewhere other than “here” or that it’s SuUPPOSED to be ANYTHING….anyhoo…that’s my two cents and I love you 😅
I don't kow the real answer, but I would assume that it has to do with what your subject matter (in art) would be. like doing this exercise will somewhat give you a sense of direction concerning what type of art you really want to do... for me, for example I realised that I've always loved music, animation and fashion. So the type of pictures I love doing and which I've based my life around now is art inspired by my favourite music, animation backgrounds and desiging T shirt prints for local brands. I also have a sewing TH-cam channel where I try to mix everything (I sneak some of my art in there whether its a cartoon character reminding people to backstitch, or a little animation I made of myself sewing) As a result of being self-taught. I got hired last year, at an animation studio. My porfolio was mainly cartoon characters and backgrounds sometimes it all connects. Its like analysing the history of a market to predict where it could go next (might not be a great analogy but idk)

Early morning with Mr. Zapata, (5:30 a.m. here) going to listen while running, good meditative practice.Thank you Steven.
That career talk is maybe what I needed to hear right now, as I've recently made the commitment of becoming a storyboard artist. Thanks Steven.
these periods where we get to draw together are very special to me, takes me back to art class as a 15 year old. thank you🧡
"horrible to take life advice from a youtube", you just dismantled my entire art philosophy
don't listen to that advice, it's also from youtube

Yeah I know, it’s all very confusing. Even the Buddha despaired of the difficulty of teaching the Dharma, he had to be talked into it by a god.
thanks for all these

does anyone know how the advice "write every detail in your life as if it were meaningful" means? Like how does this inspire you to draw

I'm in it for the product (not to sell) I would never go through the process of drawing if not for the final piece.
Its Lindsey Stirling and Ed Sheerhan for me😂
