Yep standard sprickets and clutch on a 2010 model. The Ten has Excel rims but wrecked the rear on the ride. Cluth is fine at 29000km not a issue mechanical. ☺
G'day Zion Yep a good mate! This trip was the first off road riding for me in about 20 odd years, with a couple of hours on gravel prior. Yep had a few issues. Gear wise there was stuff i wouldn't take again and have since got rid of, but had and extra 13lts or fuel and 10.5 ltrs of water, and 8 days of food, certainly adds to the weight. Yes the Tenere is heavy, but its reliable, as a note i replaced the rear wheel after the trip as the spoke nipples pulled, now have an 18inch rear, much better off road. But a great trip, ticked of one on the bucket list :) cheers
Looks like an awesome ride but the music in this video was nasty ... totally not the right choice, boring and obnoxious. I know, everyone has different tastes but this was just a rock version of elevator music. Still .. good video. When you say you have $8k of mods in there ... that's a $8k bike :) Were they necessary? Would you have had a worse experience with a stock Ténéré/690?
Dan Music, yep there wasn't a lot of choices last year on the free Utube music, not the best . Now the bikes, I think the current price for a Tenere in Aus is around $13k or so, yes you could just add some panniers and off you go, it would do it. But there are some awsome second hand ones all setup for under $10K. There is a huge difference in suspension with the Ohlins compared to stock, Rims, well they are Excel and i still wrecked a rear on the corrugations. The bike cost me $7500 but most of the mods where done when i got it, so this bike would have cost the original owner a lot of money!. And has apparently completed the Canning Stock Route. The KTM 690, well that bike has had a lot of mods mainly the Rally Raid Kit, with out it the fuel range would not get us between fuel stops Carnegie station to Warburton is about 480km with nothing in between. The KTM is lighter but didn't have a screen which makes life a lot better on the road runs so this is part of the RR kit, weight of the Tenere is heavy but with the original exhaust removed, center stand now removed and the air intake mods now it has about 58 HP. But yes its still heavy! SOLID Both bikes carry Rotopax fuel and water. Fuel range on the Ten off road is getting 400km to a tank ( not riding like a rally rider ) Comfort wise the Tenere is great, which bike would i have liked to be on for the Gunbarrel, the KTM. If you have a stock 690 you would still have to use bladders, i'm not a fan of these , but the Ten you would only need one. Reliability, the Ten is 2010 and 31000 km and not a fault apart from the rear wheel, this i have swapped out to a 18 inch rim, better Tyre choice and has made a huge difference off road, love it! The 690 the RR kit had parts sent back and forth to the UK due to poor finish quality at the time, its a 2013 model and had had a new fuel pump and i think is on its 3rd radiator ( now out of warranty ) Gear wise we had food for 8 days on board the bikes and a few things i wouldn't take again, but otherwise we both had 45kg of gear with extra water and fuel and didn't see anyone for 3 days! Hope this help with the question Cheers
West Coast Adventurer Thank you VERY much for that elaborate answer. I have my eye on a Ten and any positive reports make me feel warm and fuzzy inside :) As for music, I found that on soundcloud you can find a lot of music that is available for free, or a buck or a pound, and usable in your own production. Great channel, keep up making great videos!
