you are my favourite travel vlogger...informative-fun-authentic.....never miss an episode
wow! thank you!!!
Ah cool, text the wife to let her know we have another of your videos to watch again. Keep doing what you are doing.
Thx Dakota Mick (& Mrs DM too :) STL
That camping company..what a fantastic group...so friendly, what a way to meet new people and enjoy yourself...
I never missed your indonesian vlogs.. toba, lombok, belitung, etc, they’re absolute beauties. Thanks for sharing your pure adventure STL❤
Thanks HyperBali :) STL
Hoping to follow your footsteps to the Indonesian islands one day......SOON. Thanks, STL for sharing!
Absolutely loving this series, from a cold, grey, damp England!
Thanks for watching :) STL
Indonesia is truly underrated. The scenery is amazing and the people seem very welcoming too. Thanks for the info!! Happy Travels
Really is and the people too!
Now that's a new twist on Hitching a Ride ... you're a real gentleman my friend. Such wonderful laid back islands and I like the idea of being able to camp .. become one with nature. If this was the Entree waiting impatiently for the Main Course. Thanks for the ride. Bushyboy Oz.
There are a few travelvloggers i follow and you are the most laid back person on the youtube and great content thank you for that :) makasih banyak
Wow, thank you! STL
such a beautiful place! If things go as planned, I hope to be moving to Thailand in a year and a half (I'll be a bit past the 50 y/o mark). Researching that is how I came across your channel quite some time ago. But, I have to say, the Belitung episodes and these latest videos have made me want to go further abroad for sure! Thanks so much for sharing!!
Kinda miss your longer 30-min videos. Don't you ever say they've been too long.
That's a scary ride, the road are so narrow and curvy up down the hill..and through the madness chaotic traffic. You are definitely an Asian born rider.😅 love your energy with the locals and your sense of humour...love yr videos. Keep up the good work and much appreciated the info on conversions dollars of hotel, food etc👍👍👍🤩
Beautiful beaches, delicious food and a clean comfortable room…..paradise STL!
Yep, Padang has a lot to offer from world famous cuisine (Rendang/Nasi Padang etc) to the offshore islands shown. But the absolute BEST beaches I've ever seen anywhere are just ahead... ps: note on your channel the annual Surin Elephant roundup is on, nicely filmed Howey! STL
Did I wish you the best New Year? STL.
Breakfast looked good.
Always informative.
Great service.
Always great content.
The UK does not have enough infrastructure to deal with all the electric cars.
Filling up and getting on your way is more appealing than waiting two hours to charge. So beautiful. Your boat ride. Lovely drone footage.
The buzz is good.
Nice chilled glass. Your food looked so good.
Their steaks look good at their other place.
Love your videos.
Happy Thursday
since you love minangkabau/padang food, here is a list of "must try", 1) gulai tunjang / cow tendon, 2) gulai cincang / goat, 3) gulai itiak / duck in green chili, 4) dendeng batokok / beef, 5) sate padang / satay and for dessert bubur kampiun. .
You do it in fine style, and with the best attitude. I can hear the smile in your voice.
Love nasi goreng for breakfast! And lunch! And dinner !
Another fabulous looking part of the world, and great people.
Yep, really friendly folks in Padang (and all over Indonesia actually:) STL
THAT BEACH AT 13 MINS IS UNREAL. THE WATER THE PALMS THE SAND
More vds. the better. Refreshing approach. Thanks.
“I dropped the lady and boy off in the middle of nowhere but they were happy…” I think she may have been scared with how you handled the sharp curves and was happy to disembark…😂😂😂
LOL! (& quite likely ;) STL
Excellent video. Your relaxed and engaging attitude shines through.People are so friendly
My friend I can’t watch this video. I went to Padang just before Covid hit. Loved the place a hidden treasure. Great place and people. Too emotional and sad to watch this, miss it so freaking much.
'hidden treasure. Great place and people' You summed it up nicely Ahmad. Hope you can get back one day:) STL
Loving your adventure in java and Sumatra ❤ Agree the western world can be boring compared with SE Asia (I'm in UK)
STL, thanks for sharing your adventures, it gives others options to travel 👍
Thanks Dee In Issan! Wish more of my majority Thailand viewers were watching this series but hey we're enjoying and it's their loss! Edit to add: On that note, I'll be back in Thailand inJanuary to continue my home search series. STL
Love the vibe
I'm loving this Indo adventure. Nice to see something other than Bali!
Always a Delight STL...... :-)))
always waiting for your video
Morning from Georgetown ontario
Hello TO :) STL
It's a rainy, almost winter's type day here in southern Australia today (2 hours south of Melbourne) -- not even 20-deg Celcius (albeit it was 35 C yesterday!) ... and what a way to spend it watching your latest vid! "Controlled chaos" is something I miss being here at the moment, and not in Bangkok ... but I'm counting down the weeks until I'm back on a plane.
Days when an STL video drops are simply better days.
Cheers Peter! STL
Great video, good job giving the lady and her son a lift. You find some amazing places 👍👍
Thanks 👍
Another great video! Life’s a Beach!
Another good informative video. You make me want to move to Asia again. Great food ! it looks so delicious. Thank you for sharing your trips

Cheers Andy! Yep 18,000 apparently & some of the finest are just ahead, stay tuned;) STL
Beautiful! Thank you for taking me with you oín video. Greetings from cold gray Germany. 20 days before traveling to Thailand, cambodia and malaysia in january and february.
Sending warm wishes to Deutschland and may you have wonderfully warm and happy travels ahead in SE Asia! STL
Thank you @@SideTripLife
Good morning STL from 🇨🇦. Yes, loving the series! I would not be driving myself that’s for sure. Even in Pai Thailand I rented a bicycle to explore☺️ (not much motorbike experience). Til next time.....take care.
Smart.
Ohhh that water is such a beautiful color! I love what you’re doing STL. I could see myself doing the same. Find a boat and visit all those little places. What wonderful people over there. Hell I may quit my job and come follow you around 🤣I would totally chill on those beaches for hours. Driving the scooter is a bit sketch but I’d give it a go. Keep ‘em coming. Can’t wait for the next one!
Thanks!
Hey Joe thanks a lot :) STL
Thank you and keep up the good work sir (lain waktu main ke pekanbaru ke toko kami🙏)
hi! for sure Bagus :)
There are no wrong turns, just side trips :)
Yep, that's life;) STL

Thanks Bill! STL
Like being there indeed! :D
Спасибо за шикарный обзор!😊
Translated: 'Thanks for the great tour' - Thanks for coming along! Cпасибо что пришли! STL
Great video STL! Nice tunes as well!
Thanks Mikeyboy! STL
Thanks again for all the hard work!
Thanks for watching, appreciated! STL
Choice👍
I love that hotel! Could see myself staying there for quite a while. It’s interesting from all your videos that a lot of people in Indonesia speak and understand English quite well. Is that what you have found?
There's more English speakers in main cities and especially hotels of course but far less so in the countryside - however, as you can see I still encounter some English speakers outside cities as well.
As always -- great video! Makes morning at work much much better! Keep having fun!
Cheers DJ! STL
Thank you so much it’s great to watch this beautiful island
Would a solo woman traveler Be safe there?
As a guy I'm subjective of course but just take the usual precautions one would as a female traveller like anywhere. Might add, i feel safer anywhere in Indonesia than I do walking in my home town of Vancouver downtown and in broad daylight.
EDIT TO ADD: Have a look on YT at 'Exploring Sumatra with Agung and Carly' channel, Carly just posted a vid on this subject
Love the videos.. awesome place..
May I suggest something?
Or a small request, just a little weather report while going about your day.
Great suggestion thx
I did get to pet a civet though.
Tabs under the seat at front to wedge your helmet strap so you can lock your helmet.
Pro tip right there ;) Cheers, STL
Rush Hour 😂
Hey you've already at my birthplace West Sumatra lol, Aside from Mentawai island and other stunning beaches, there's a great valley view called Sianok Canyon in the city called Bukittinggi, close to it there's also our mini version of Big Ben called Jam Gadang / Big Clock Tower (It's using the same legit gears as big ben !). Also close to town in Agam regency there's a cafe with stunning valley view called Taruko Cafe resto, where the OG "Gordon Ramsay" cooked his first version of Rendang (available in his Yt channel).
There's other beautiful sites including the ephemeral "Misty Lake", but i'll let you discover it yourself :)
Did you know ?, there are 3 different types of sauces of satay padang, each with different color !
Thank you for the great local tips! Sooo much to see in W Sumatra! (and eat - I LOVE sambal/satay and Nasi Padang - see next vid;) STL
The cables in Padang 😂😂😂
Just 😂love it all, blogs pay for this?
Might if I made a vid every day but I don't want to make this like a 'job'. Anyways here's the math: Avg travel vlog 1000 views = $10 x say 10,000 views a day x 30 days =$3000 + another 50% from existing content.... hey, wait a sec, I SHOULD be making daily vlogs!!! (naaaa, I'd rather enjoy my travels;) STL
Uh oh, did I miss a video? Last time you were on this beautiful island, and now you are suddenly back in some traffic nightmare. Did you time travel, or something ?
I cut the travel day video (and much of this series sadly) as few of my majority Thailand viewers are watching (thus my vids do not get recommended by the YT algorithm) so decided just not worth it wasting hours and hours editing, sorry bout that.
❤❤
on STL there are no "wrong turns" :)
I like that comment, cheers STL :)
I’ve been to Padang twice. But I didn’t see anything like what you saw.
Hi, to get to those islands I just rode a little over an hour South of Padang in this vid
Hello, where is this located? Looks lovely!
I'm on Soi 6, Boom Boom Island
How did you get from Belitung to Padang?
Now we are talking!
You got out of that place quick! No smiling its time to leave! Be aware of your surroundings!
just didn't want to ride back on that windy rd in the dark
Curious if you have done a video or could on how you deal with money/credit cards and exchange for Indonesia ? I’ve done a little research here in Canada but curious what you would recommend.
Thanks for all the great videos!
I simply go to the ATM for cash, rarely use a CC, more often use a limited travel account with debit card as also limits any potential clone n drain. Your milage may vary but works for me. Cheers STL
Hello are we missing a video? You refer to a bridge that’s lit up at night then refer to a previous video. 🤷♀️ The previous one you were in Belitung. So a bit confused.
Still loving the content on this one though 😊
Hi Sue, thanks for noticing and for following this series. I'll paste my response to a similar query below:
Unfortunately I cut the travel day video (and much of this series sadly) as few of my majority Thailand viewers are watching (thus my vids do not get recommended by the YT algorithm) so decided just not worth it wasting hours and hours editing, sorry bout that.
@@SideTripLife oh ok no worries. I understand
@SideTripLife thanks Mike,
Just watched the last 2 vids again to make sure I wasn't drunk and missed something.
Fair call with the views, they will come again, look at the random Kuta million plus views.
Cheers
Simon
I was not here.
Thx JJ for continuously not being one of my earliest subscribers, not watching and not commenting. May this not continue well into the future. STL
Cool streamer. Was always wondering does it lonely travelling on your own all the time ? Or are you used to it ?
I love the freedom of travelling solo actually. However, I do admit it would be nice to share sunsets with a special independent lady
@@SideTripLife Its my dream to do what you do man. Absolutely amazing life.
Would love to see more Thailand streams if your going back anytime soon ?
Will be continuing my Thailand home search series in January. STL
@@SideTripLife awesome
New to your channel, from Vancouver as well. Thinking of copying your life style....... At least half the year. Van is getting more and more expensive 😢
Hi Greg, as much as I absolutely love Van (but sad to see what's become of my beloved city) if I ever moved home I'd have to live in a Van as I couldn't afford to buy back in! (also between Chrome & Foresty Forest, it's pretty much covered;) STL
Oil for plastic, food for animals ,etc
The thing about oil or rather the scenario of not using any, isn't just about fuel in vehicles, planes, cargo ships, trains, and so on, its also polyester, plastics, clothing, and on and on and on.
Shifting from petrol/diesel cars to electric, (without any real consideration of the mining requirements for materials like cobalt, for the batteries) is to me like Vegans telling omnivores to stop eating anything animal based. It's just too radical a step, and chances are not totally necessary.
Anyways, its obviously a massive subject, with many arms and legs, some of the biggest consumers: United States, China, India. The whole car culture in the US has to change. Look at the average engine size and mpg compared to Europe for example. And its been that way for decades and decades. Quite why anyone needs something like a Ford F350 to drop the kids off at school, or do the grocery shopping, is beyond me. It generates 15 mpg, and is described as 'an efficient fuel economy rate'. Try telling someone in Europe that is efficient and they'll laugh in your face, and show you their 50-60 mpg car instead.
In contrast look at Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, most journeys on small engine mopeds, many carrying more than one passenger/rider, and mobile businesses. If there were stringent inspection and maintenance requirements ensuring emissions are within a certain range, not sure it would be much of an issue.
On a final point, I don't think electric cars are the answer. I do think that other electric personal transport options provide some very interesting numbers, segways, ebikes, electric scooters, and so on. In that regard, many parts of the US appear to be ahead of many other countries in having quite a permissive environment, whereas here in the UK it is heavily regulated, to the extent that ebikes can only be pedal assist, not solely electric powered, and limited in power, e scooters can't be used on public roads, unless, they are from a few hire companies that have trials in various places. Lots of tech out there, but the authorities approach needs to integrate with what is available.
In Indonesia, the government forced the automaker to create fuel efficient vehicles, eg Motorbike, cars, bus, trucks.. in 2010, motorbike can only travel about 12-15km per 1Liter fuel. Today 60-65km/1Liter fuel... This is one of the gov's way to reduce emissions. but the climate b*thces never count it in.
Do you know what they don't tell you about shifting to Electric Vehicles...?? simply because we don't want to submit or be dependant/controlled by the arab nations or the OPEC. That's all.
Indonesia is also oil rich country actually. it's just that the refinery capacity isn't enough to fill the domestic needs. and somebody or something blockaded Indonesia from building more oil refinery, so Indonesia will have to import around 30% of its oil needs... so If only 30% of Indonesian shifting to EV, then it can stop buying oil from the arabs.
I believe Indonesia case is not unique. i think other countries like Thailand, Vietnam, etc are also the same.
I STILL CONFUSED INDONESIA WITH 18.000 ISLANDS ..COUNTLESS PRETTY BEACHES SPREADING ALL OVER INDONESIA FROM WEST TO EAST FOREIGNERS ONLY KNOW BALI (0,29%) PARTS OF INDONESIA..EVEN SOME OF THEM CALLED BALI IS A COUNTRY 😅😅😅..
so true!
Thanks!
Thank YOU Riley:) STL
