    I think the 'time trouble' Ding got into was actually completely appropriate. He knew it was an important move, and that he'd get a full 30 minutes after making that one move. Didn't matter how much time was on the clock, as long as it wasn't 0.

    Chess won. Gukesh showed why he is the challenger despite being 18. Ding showed why he is the reigning champion despite coming in as the underdog. You can't ask for a lot more from a game.

    30:13 king rook vs king rook bishop is usually a draw but at certain positions (defending king is trapped at the edge) it’s a win for king rook bishop

    • @xornxenophon3652
      @xornxenophon3652 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      In practice, it is often a win for the side with the rook and the bishop, as the defense is very difficult, even for a GM.

  • @Jon60987

    To be fair to Gukesh - it wasn't THAT much of a winning edge, and Ding made it super hard for Gukesh to find one winning move after another, where not finding even 1 move brings it back to even. This game showcases just how good both of these players are. *OBVIOUSLY* these players easily saw the checkmate threat that Ding had if Gukesh moved his King up in that one sequence. Truly magnificent play by both players, and thank you for successfully showing just how good these two champions are.

      @@0_0faizan That's bad on me then and I withdraw my comments. My recollection is that it only got to 1.3 or maybe a bit higher. I apparently was not very observant, and missed some important details. If Gukesh had a +3 and did not get the win, then yeah this was just a poor performance on his part and he missed a clear win. My apologies for my oversight. Thanks for correcting my mistake.

    All things considered this was an excellent game by ding. Yes he made some mistakes giving gukesh a better position. He himself said he thought this position was hopeless. But he kept on fighting. Made it challenging for Gukesh to actually break through. Gukesh was unable to break through.

    When it comes to time scrambles, Ding is extremely better than Gukesh. And I think this is what happened in the game. Gukesh did have the advantage before move 40, but Ding's defense was solid. If you notice, after the added time, Ding took around 20 minutes to make one move, while Gukesh seemed relaxed at that moment. However, the tables were turned after that, and it was Gukesh who was seen struggling with his time, often going down to his last 20 seconds before making a move. Nonetheless, it was an amazing game.

    To answer your question, even with an extra bishop, but no pawns for both sides, with R's present, it should be a draw. But the bishopless side must execute perfect maneuvering. One weak move is fatal.

    Zero K activation by Gukesh. Surely he had to have started looking at his activation options right after Qs came off the board. Almost comes across as getting caught flat-footed. But sometimes positional dynamics results in such a thing.
