I've only heard "the berries," "tomato," "applesauce," the cat's pajamas," hotsy-totsy" and "glad rags." There is also "the cat's meow." Could "the cat's pajamas" be a mixture of this and another phrase (something like "that's the way the cookie bounces," from "that's the way the ball bounces" and "that's the way the cookie crumbles")? The 1964 song "Rag Doll," by The Four Seasons contains the line, "I'd turn her sad rags into glad rags if I could."

A corn shredder might refer to a dancer who steps on a partner’s feet, thus shredding, the corns sprouting there.

I learned for the first time through this presentation "Know Your Onions." I love onions (green, red, white, yellow - you name it) and intelligence as well as the entire 1920s for so many reasons (fashion, music, silents, Garbo...). I thoroughly enjoyed this presentation (voice over, images, content, ALL) and subscribed. My boss at my university music library used to sing to me every day I came to work "Born too Late." I think I've been a fan of the Roaring Twenties since birth ❤🤍💙

What about the bees' knees? From what era was that saying, I wonder.
