Thanks for this video.Mulling this decision over now. I think another big consideration is how much you want to use the navigation for free ride, etc. Then I could see screen size mattering a little more, if you are going to be take quick glances at the map- it seems like a little bit bigger screen would help. But I truthfully don't know how much I woulduse that. The other I'll mention that I saw in another video- you can have your data screen displayed and then the map only pops up when you come near a turn, briefly - then automatically goes back to the data screen. This would be useful on the 840.
I had the 830 for years and the glass screen bonding started to fail, you could visually see it, but the computer still worked great. The 840 came out and I decided to buy one about 8 months after it's release. I was actually wanting to see a new version of the 130 because I just don't need all that data while I'm riding. Garmin never did release a 140 so I got the 840. The 20 sum odd hours of battery is plenty because I never go anywhere for more than 3 days of riding. If you ask me I'd say why spend hundreds more for the 1040 or 1040 Solar if you don't have a specific need and do rides like that often. If I went on a Tour that lasted more than 4 or 5 days I would probably only do that once a years and in that case I could get by with the 840 and a powerbank. I can't see ever needing 64G of memory either.
Hey thanks! Excellent and honest video. I think it helped me out to make my choice between these two. Exactly what I needed to hear.
Thank you very much for this review. It was very helpfull to meet my decision. Finally I have chosen the 840.

great video
i am waiting to see what the 1050 has when it comes out...
@bonn1771 - Thanks! I saw on a thread maybe this year for the 1050. It will be interesting to see what improvements are coming.
@@elroobike saw about the screen being amoled possibly and a few other features I am hearing July for release date
I’m loving the 840 so far and I still haven’t had to charge it yet.
@ryandelany7662 - Thanks for the inspiration for this vid! The 840 really is sweet!

They have the same software but I think the 1040 has better processors.meaning its refresh rate is higher
That’s a good call out. Thanks!
32G vs 64G storage. Have the 1040 solar it’s amazing. The extra storage is handy if wanting to load lots of maps.
give you 2t storage, will it make any different? nope, unless you put tons of porn in it. 64g? doesn't need it at all.
Wahoo bolt)
