This is the problem with new/modern football fans. They think if you say something outlandish/foolish and disagree with it, you're jumping to the other end. At no point did anybody disrespect Gundo, but if its one thing you CANNOT say, is that he single-handedly did anything, that is disrespectful to Rodri, Stones etc who had fantastic games in that final.

De Gea fizzled out in 2018, because Pep came into the league, and started playing ball playing goalkeepers, the majority of the top teams in the league followed suit and adapted and got new Goalkeepers or their current no.1's adapted to the new roles, United refused to get a new goalkeeper and De Gea is incapable of adapting, and it's been costing united season after season
@Ade Yeah, but Liverpool were never the top team when Pepe Reina was in the league.
Nor did Pepe Reina play in a system that is built up on and dependent on the keepers ability to be able to pass and receive the ball as well as stepping out into the backline to shorten the space behind the backline.
The advantage of Pep's system of playing out from the back using the keeper is why it was widely adopted by the majority of teams at every level of the game.

You’re mad if you think Gundogan isn’t world class. I agree he’s not on the level of some of the greats like Gerrard, Scholes etc. but ability wise, every time you watch the guy play, he’s the catalyst for most good things City do. Very under appreciated and in the top 15 PL midfielders oat at a minimum.
1. He was instrumental in the domestic treble season (18/19) playing as CDM for most of it bc Fernandinho spent most of the time injured (and when he wasn't, Gundo still played some games in the 8 role).
2. He was City's top goal scorer in the 20/21 season.
3. He was one of City's most consistently well performing players this season. He's amazing at knitting everything together, controlling the tempo of the game etc. He's a CM. He doesn't have to bang in goals left and right to be world class. He shows up with goals when needs to.
If you're talking about players like Gerrard or Lampard when you say "PL greats" - Gundogan is definitely the better CM in terms of dictating play. He's also a much better CDM than them. He's also an amazing goal scorer when that's his role (again, see 20/21 season). On what grounds are those "PL Greats" clear of Gundogan? The fact that they played for bigger clubs with bigger fanbases and were "more important to the team"? That's not quality. That's happenstance/circumstance. And if that's what "being a Great" is based on...who really gives a fuck.
And when it comes to importance...even that's arguable. In case you haven't noticed: the last few months of a season are the most important. Gundogan literally won City the PL last season, carried City to the longest win streak in history during 20/21 season (after City had an awful start to the season), secured the title during a busy period with 4 goals and 1 assist in two games this season, won City the FA Cup and may captain City to not only the first UCL but a treble.
Btw, I'm not saying Gundogan is better than them. I'm just saying there are no real grounds to argue they were better than Gundogan considering he's a completely different player (so you can't compare 1:1 anyways) and his qualities aren't less valuably than theirs.
