Well thanks to you sir I had the confidence to replace my exhaust from stock to full stainless steel sounds fantastic and saved me $$$ on labour. Please don't stop your videos they help people like my self massively 😎😎
Great video from across the pond! Another fab upside to changing the factory exhaust system is the the fact that aftermarket ones weigh a whole lot lighter over stock!!!
adidasguy! I didn't know you had a youtube channel. I used to post on the gstwin forum... now I'm looking at getting another GS to replace the 01 that I (stupidly) sold!
Stock jetting. MPG is about 65 on the highway. Brisk performance plugs are a nice addition. Runs great. Exhaust has somewhat the same impact as stock. It is from the UK where noise laws are very strict. I bought the Motad more for appearance and to be one-of-a-kind as I built this bike from a bare frame. I wanted the best parts on him.
Love the video Patrick. Along with my Royal Enfield Bullet I have two GS500s, a naked 2005 K5 and a 2004 FK4. The fairing bike I built from individual parts. It has a 2007 engine in a 2004 frame. I'm thinking of ditching the standard exhaust in favour of an after market sports exhaust. Your motad looks great but here in the UK they're not cheap! All the best Ray.
They are R&G Racing frame sliders. You can get them for the "E" model and the "F"models as well (requires drilling hole in fairing but looks really great! Like a GSXR!)
The seat is by Gimbel in Germany. It comes primed fiberglass and you paint it to match your bike. They are on ebay as seller id bikeparts79. Go to their store and search in there for GS500 so see the parts they sell for the GS. The seat puts you an inch or two lower making it really nice if you are short like me.
Check all the bolts. Be sure the 2 bolts that hold the bracket to the can are tight. Insure the rear frame bolt is tight and extra tighten the clamp where the two parts join together under the engine. You might get vibration of your missed the rubber bumper for the center stand. Without that, the center stand can vibrate against it - metal to metal.
I have seen people drill holes in the end of a stock exhaust. While it makes it louder, it also makes it have a higher, tinnier sound - not deep and throaty. Others might have suggestions. Best I can suggest is get a used Jardine or V&H exhaust.
i got a 89 gs500e and i just want to replace the muffler or make it louder its stalk now is there any hints or tips you can give me to make it a quick job can the stalk muffler be tampered with to make it louder
hi, looking to replace my 2007 GS500F exhaust before selling as it is scratched. Probably going to go with with a wrecker / 2nd hand one that is in better condition. Will a GS500 or 500E fit? thanks.
Oh, the protective bands are R&G Racing muffler guards. A good way to protect your investment in a $400 muffler. Good for stock, too, in case the bike falls over.
Engine bottom is different. Oil cooler doesn't do much. They've been running them for years without one. 2004+ naked bikes in Europe do not have oil coolers. Just the 2004+ "F" models. Even 1989-2000 models with the TCP or Five Stars fairing were fine with no oil cooler unless sittting in really hot weather. Then, the fairing prevents air from getting to an oil cooler anyway.
Yes they will. All GS500 exhausts fit the same because all engines are basically the same and the frames the same except for how the tail plastics mount.
There is no front or back for the gasket. Stock mufflers are all one piece. Most after market exhausts are 2 or 3 pieces to make them easier to ship and manufacture.
the Oil Radiator is stock equipment on the 500f, since it had Fairings they added that radiator. you can find them and the extra bits prolly from a oem parts distibutor or ebay craiglist or any other such searches.
Hello hello please, I'd like to know where the catalyser is in order to know where to cut the exhaust to add a second muffler on the left. Can anybody help me on that one? Mine is a 2013 model.
It depends on the system you buy. No issues with Motad. As for Vance & Hines: 2 bikes with different vintages of it and one bike it is no issue and the other is so close but won't let you remove the filter without dropping the exhaust. On any system I've seen you can remove the drain, though oil may spill on the pipes so cover them with foil or plastic to keep them clean. Oil filter is the only issue on some systems. Sometimes you can get it out. Sometimes all it takes is loosening the headers 1/4" and loosening the rear bolt to let it move a little to gain enough clearance (so not always a complete removal).
Oil cooler not possible to add to older engines. Not really necessary, either. They were added in 2004 with the fully faired "F" model. Naked bikes 2004+ were still made without the oil cooler.
Those are the OEM clip on bars. There was one style in 1989. These are the 1990-1996 style from Europe (not sold in the USA). If you are on gstwins, there is a thread with complete details and descriptions of the 3 types of OEM clip ons (1 sold world wide, 2 never sold in the USA)
I'm getting a little popping sound on deceleration with the newly installed (used) Yoshi exhaust. I did no modifications after installation. Is this ok? I like it.
Ah....so something else less similar to stock mught cause problems? I'm looking at an 07 with a Delkevic R6 can that the current owner added "because it was louder for safety" (eyeroll). If that's a frame-up, you're pretty proficient, because I just thought it was a stock bike that somebody took really good care of.

This might be the cleanest gs500 on TH-cam lol, no scratches EVER
not at all lol!
Addidasguy,
I love how thorough you are AND that you still manage to forget stuff (e.g. putting on your rubber gloves. Great video.
Great explanation video. The GS undoubtedly is one of the best value for money bikes. Love it.
Fantastic video! Love all the recommendations and warnings.
I do like the deeper sound, still can't get rid of that sewing machine though
Muffler scratches must have killed this guy's parents.

bike looks so cool with that seat

Great video, which is the mirror you've got on the bike? I have a gs500 year 2004 that comes with terrible mirrors. These ones look good.
I know its a old video but what are he putting on hes bolts ? :D?

Well explained , including trouble shooting tips.

Which frame sliders do you have on that bike? they look nice.

Is it possible to get an 1994 gs 500 oil cooled with a cooler from the newer series?

Hi bud,how did install this oil radiator? and where did you buy it please?
Just FYI, in case you are hoping for a reply, he passed away in an MVC

The rear sets are by Gimbel in Germany.
Will oil changes be more difficult with upgrade exhaust

I have a 99 gs500e, are those aftermarket handle bars, they look like clip-ons.

thanks man, appreciate the rapid response.
Adidasguy! A familiar name from the GSTwins forum :D
I like this adidasguy. Is this his youtube channel?
What's the pipe called
Excelente tus vídeos.
quality video.
very helpful video !!!
When you change the exhaust I'm pretty sure you need to change the jets in the carbs. How do you know which jets to change them to?
did u find out?
yeah. it was something easy.
Suzuki SV650 mirrors. They are much better than the black plastic stock GS500 mirrors.
I'm getting a little popping sound on deceleration with the newly installed (used) Yoshi exhaust. I did no modifications after installation. Is this ok? I like it.
Neil Bergenstein You need to rejet your carbs if you changed from stock exhaust to aftermarket.
Keep the popping.. it's awesome ;)
That´s not the original seat, isn't it?
I'm not convinced you like it that much. lol. It's better than stock though.
Ah....so something else less similar to stock mught cause problems? I'm looking at an 07 with a Delkevic R6 can that the current owner added "because it was louder for safety" (eyeroll).

I like the seat bro
Patrick passed away a few years back. He helped me a lot through the GS forum many years ago. He was a truly great guy.
as the front you get 3 out the other snaps! like see get all 4 out lol
Alright thanks for answering :D
You might post some questions on gstwins.com - that's the best GS500 site around.
16:18 what hahaha
Suzuki SV-650 mirrors
Should of just got staintune Australia
Guten Tag, ich suche genau so eine Anlage. Können Sie mir helfen? Gruß
26:36 Philips are the worst screwdrivers. Try JIS ones.
It honestly doesn’t sound any different or better than the stock exhaust
