I get it but these comments are dumb. Blizzard has done lots of dumb shit over the last 15 years but they've also done a lot for the games and communities of these games
First bronze league heroes make people try out the game because it looks less intimidating myself included then he makes spotlights. Sounds like a plan
That is..... actually such a brilliant idea for a series! It never really occurred to be as a possibility, since Warcraft 3 heroes are generally on the simpler side of things - which is intentional, of course, because they're meant to be used alongside a base and an army, so you can't really have a high complexity character with difficult combos that has a wall of text under every ability. And I feel like their simpler nature would become very apparent, the moment you'd try to port any of them into DotA (Blood Mage would probably be a tad tricky to pick up, and Warden is a harder Queen of Pain due to her melee range and need to micro, but that's about it). So to see that even a Blademaster has so many intricacies that a 37 minute video can be made about him...... it's honestly quite a surprise. But it really goes to show that just understanding the mechanics of a game is not the same as knowing how to utilize them in the most effective way possible. Because sure, you can easily explain Blademaster's spells to an 8 year old that never played an RTS in their life, but that doesn't mean the 8 year old is going to perform well while using him. I know this might seem obvious to most of you, but as someone who's watched a ton of spotlight/showcase videos on other games, I was kind of conditioned to not expect these videos to go too deep. It just feels really refreshing to see something like this, after the style shift in the League champ spotlights, where they went onto much more surface level explanations for the sake of having the videos be shorter (which is a decision I will never ever understand). And I also enjoy a good reminder of the fact that seemingly simple things can actually have a ton of depth to them. Anyways, I hope we'll get to see some other heroes, with perhaps some vids on the units as well! (But for those, it would likely be more ideal to cover multiple units at once, like a "WC3 Unit Spotlight: Human Casters" sort of deal, that would touch on both the Priest and the Sorceress, or maybe a "WC3 Unit Spotlight: Infantry", which would cover the Footman, the Grunt, the Ghoul and the Archer..... though I could just be underestimating their complexity too :D)
Lets gooo! I love that Grubby actually considered my suggestion of making SotLlike content and thought yeah lets try that, shows that he has built a tight community inside of which its fun to exchange ideas and communicate. Great start to a series! I love how in-depth your videos are in general, they're long but really content dense and full of great info so it's never boring.

I haven't played WarCraft 3 for about a decade (not counting recently re-playing the campaigns to refresh my memory of the lore) but man I love this game and I am happy that there are still people who care and love the game. I will certainly look all (24 I hope) of the hero spotlights series.
fun fact : during wind walk blademaster loses collision with units but he "gains" collision with items on the ground, so you could theorically item surround him xD love the content
I remember Lyn using this niche interaction once against Focus on Twisted Meadows long ago. Focus had walled off his base against harass, but Lyn Windwalked and then dropped an item on the ground, in order to have the collision from the item push his hero past the wall-off once the windwalk ended
This was removed, sadly, in 2020. Originally, this was part of my Windwalk tricks. But, when creating demonstrative gameplay footage, I found it's no longer possible. The reason this was removed is because you used to be able to squeeze into Human bases with diagonal base building blocks, by dropping a claws, squeezing over with WW, and then picking it up and going out the same way. This was felt to be unfair.

You the man Grubby, this is a really useful series for those of us your pulling back into WC3 with your Bronze League Heroes Series. Love it, keep it up man.
SC2 does have "turn rate". It affects some units way more than others. Which is why some of their patches buff something to have "turret tracking" which basically massively decrease their "turn rate".
You could have added that despite BM having only 1,75 agility gain per level, he actually has the single highest agility gain in the entire game. I think that could help people project on how strong agility as an atttribute is.
I always thought peculiar that there was a huge lack of analysis explaining the game for newbies in warcraft 3 given its deep complexity. Good to see more guides!
This is a professional and appreciated analysis. Learned so much. Really enjoy your blademaster play being a bm fan from so much Samuro play in hots. GL.HF
This breakout of the hero and their skills against each race matchup is great. This is exactly the kind of stuff I'm thinking about as a beginner, and I have no idea where else I would find this information. Maybe even a "race spotlight" series would also be great; highlighting what the given race does well generally, and the considerations against each other race. For instance, in the past you're discussed how some races can sit and wait; playing their own game, but other races NEED to go disrupt their opponent (like you pointed out in Orc VS Human here). These little details, to understand "I need to be aggressive here or I'll just lose" seems really important.
It´s so nice. I allready love your wc3 gameplays, but spotlight´s for better understanding of the Hero´s are awesome! Wc3 is still after all these years one of my favorit games and you making the contend of this game so much more enjoyable.
This is awesome! Maybe add tips and tricks about creeping with said her too? I remember in the past it was common to have the Blade solo an item holding creep but have not seen that done much recently. Maybe if a hero has some spicy creep strategy that can be added too.
It's not that there's a "second blademaster" when he spins and autoattacks, it's that the autoattack is not bound to the animation. So blademasters stays the same and gets an "immolate aura" like damage aoe over time, plus the new spinning animation, and the autoattack stays.
Love the format, if I could be so bold to make a suggestion, some times stats like HP without context can be hard to conceptualize. Providing context like "7th hight HP of all heros" could go a long way to allow the viewer to understand what those numbers mean. Keep up the good work

LOVE the idea for this series. I was thinking of picking up WC3 after watching your Bronze League series, and found myself wondering where and how I would learn which heroes to use when. Especially Keeper of the Grove, I think he's so cool, but not sure if he's always a good first pick.
In case you're confused 9:07 Attack Speed is more like an Attack Time or Duration as its unit is seconds. My intuition for Speed is in something per second e.g. hits per second.
Hey Grubby! First of all, thanks for the content! I've doubt about the critical strike that shows when the mirror images attack. It works like an 20% critical strike from the real one or just something to confuse the oponent?
I knew that the BM still attacked during Bladestorm animation since Dota! It was a lot easier to spot since you could scale damage so much more, so seeing huge crits while bladestorming led to connecting the dots. Now I feel special 😂
Grubby the Goat giving critical coverage in an easily digestible ways again! Say, can you do a similar spotlight for each race shop? I often wonder why and when you pick up specific items in games, especially as Undead and Orc.
I love your channel grubby, its been getting me back into wc3 which is one of the few things me and my brother can still connect over. I'm completely awful at RTS so I've been devouring your content. I was wondering if you have any guide on Control Groups or Key-Bindings, as I feel these two things are my biggest flaws at the moment (other than fully understanding all races and what counters what :P)
turn rate exists in hots, so that means its in sc2 aswell. u can kite with marines and try urself if any1 is doubting me. u can cover more ground while kiting forward, than kiting backwards.(exactly like how grubby explained it in warcraft3) the turn rate is just very low , so its hard to notice at first. turnrate section is at 09:43
9:11 I've long believed the Attack Speed formula to take into account the Animation Damage Point, as a new attack cannot be started until this timer finishes. I could (and probably am) wrong though, I'll have to test that today.
If turn rate works like in dota, it should work like this: Turn rate is expressed in radians per 0.03 seconds. A 180° turn is the same as pi radians, therefore 0.03*pi divided by the turn rate of the unit equals the time it takes to turn 180°: 0.03*pi/TurnRate = time. Using 0.6 turnrate, we should get 0.03*pi/0.6 which is roughly 0.157secs to do a 180° turn. 0.4 would be roughly 0.235secs 0.5 would be roughly 0.188secs 1.0 would be roughly 0.094secs **this is assuming the formula is correct**
Yeap it works like in Dota2. Valve tried to copy the most of the mechanics from WC3, including turn rate. 1/0.03 - it is the internal frame rate in WC3, which means that in 1 second of the game ~ 33.3 frames proceeded, that's why it is 0.03 seconds used in formulae.
Loving this start series!!! I have installed one week ago W3 to play with friends and we are having muuuch fun. Will you do it with all heroes? Thanks!
Hi! Great video! I think I know how bladestorm works... It doesn't put a second blademaster spinning and hides the original one, because it would disjoint projectiles if so. I think bladestorm is just a damage aura that reduces blademaster's autoattack output damage to zero. So he can still attack but he does zero damage. They could make him unable to attack, but it would be weird when you click on an enemy unit, so they left it able to attack, but with zero damage.
How much is BM's inability to do well in "hero only" games is due to not having access to moon well spam like warden? If any orc hero could do it, I'd think it would be BM
At the beginning of the video he mentions that BM is not a good hero for these types of games. Also, when Grubby does these games, they're solo challenges, so he doesn't get a second hero. I know it's an arbitrary restriction, but it made me curious
I think you're right that it's mostly due to the lack of moon wells. There used to be a 2v2 team on Battlenet, I believe their user names were just "Blademaster" and "Warden", that would pool resources to the elf to get mass moon wells and then go solo Warden and Blademaster. Blademaster is very strong with moon well support and with orb of venom, and he is able to deal with magic immune units, which covers Warden's weaknesses well
One of his voicelines is " Yes mylord '" I think, but the way he says is sounds like " yes hallå ", hallå being hi in Swedish. As a kid that fucked me up
Good job. Please, when you talk about damage and attack speed numbers, calculate the DPS so it will be much clearer. You can also calculate how much time it takes to kill a T1 unit (pick any). This is not as good for heroes as for units (because heroes get items and level ups). You might be also interested in calculating unit's DPS numbers against all the all armor types, so people will actually get the idea whom to focus with which units and how much time would it take. In conclusion: DPS number on lvl1 hero and 5 DPS numbers against all the armor types would be nice. Stuff like "lvl1 blade kills an archer in x seconds would be extra nice"
I didn’t know about the two blade masters thing during bladestorm, does that mean you can bladestorm but also ranged attack air units with lightning orb at the same time? I bet that looks really funny
That last trick - the thing where the blademaster still autoattacks in Bladestorm - was a big thing in Dota too. Juggernaut could do that as well and it was an important part of playing him. I'm not sure if that mechanic still exists in Dota 2.
Honestly Grubby Blademaster is a work of art. Comfort TH-cam through and through I have a weird relationship with BM though, when I played WC3 I hated him passionately but when I watch Grubby I always want him to be even better hahah
Hi Grubby, thanks for the vid. I was always wondering about the movement speed change which happened during the very first patch at 2018? thereabouts, where AM, KOTG etc. got a boost to their MS. I just rechecked and indeed, AM's MS is 320, not 280 or 290 as it used to be. To my understanding, this actually changed meta quite a bit, since it was no longer possible to rundown INT heroes making it easier for AM/KoTG/FS especially in early game, where they shine the most anyway. I always felt that this is a somewhat forgotten change which actually led to a big meta shift, and would love if you would mention your thoughts on this change and the impact it had sometime.
@@GrubbyTalks ah! That makes sense. Is it buyable at the market perhaps? I swear I’ve seen it in one of your videos recently, but it could have been a ffa or 4v4 now that I think about it. Thanks for the reply!

9:11 I've long believed the Attack Speed formula to take into account the Animation Damage Point, as a new attack cannot be started until this timer finishes. I could (and probably am) wrong though, I'll have to test that today.
If turn rate works like in dota, it should work like this:

A 180° turn is the same as pi radians, therefore 0.03*pi divided by the turn rate of the unit equals the time it takes to turn 180°: 0.03*pi/TurnRate = time.
Using 0.6 turnrate, we should get 0.03*pi/0.6 which is roughly 0.157secs to do a 180° turn.
0.4 would be roughly 0.235secs
0.5 would be roughly 0.188secs
1.0 would be roughly 0.094secs

Btw, info presentation and video editing are sky high. Keep it up!
I think the viewers can make these calculations
Heros deal full damage regardless of armor type (except buildings). The only thing that matters is armor rating
@@elrondmcbong6392yep, I missed "for units" part.
@@geluflamma6896 seems like you didnt actually. I just missed it in the OP. My bad ✌🏻
I really like this kind of content
I didn’t know about the two blade masters thing during bladestorm, does that mean you can bladestorm but also ranged attack air units with lightning orb at the same time? I bet that looks really funny
Nice!
That last trick - the thing where the blademaster still autoattacks in Bladestorm - was a big thing in Dota too.
Juggernaut could do that as well and it was an important part of playing him.
I'm not sure if that mechanic still exists in Dota 2.
Uuuuh its out, long awaited from yesterdays tease xD
Possibly the coolest hero in the game.
Its him or demon hunter
Dude, this is awesome
Honestly Grubby Blademaster is a work of art. Comfort TH-cam through and through
I have a weird relationship with BM though, when I played WC3 I hated him passionately but when I watch Grubby I always want him to be even better hahah
I’m surprised that mask of death wasn’t up there in the items list.
Not a valid drop in 1v1
@@GrubbyTalks ah! That makes sense. Is it buyable at the market perhaps? I swear I’ve seen it in one of your videos recently, but it could have been a ffa or 4v4 now that I think about it.
Thanks for the reply!
Ooh, hero spotlight. This looks like an interesting series
Quality W3 content and hero spotlight in 2024? Bring it on!
it would be really cool to provide machinima videos while explaining a background lore and story. i can't wait for other heroes :D
Hopefully we can learn more about how to counter those heroes in the future episode:)
Won for the first time on BN after watching this and playing blade, just got Reforged this week. Aways tought he was the coolest!
Nice Format!
I was surprised to not see claws of attack and gloves of haste among the best items for bm.
I do think claws of attack are good on Blademaster, but I personally prefer him to live than to be a glass cannon. Claws is definitely good though, and 100% better than Gloves of Haste EXCEPT for when you also have Lightning Orb!
Power fantasy: blademaster's crit ability does work with backstab from windwalk
i'd say go for the most played hero in each race first? archmage, fs/bm, Keeper/dh, DK. great series!
Thumbnail is really good
Dat peasant on the start screen: "oh ffs, not again..." 😂
physical effective health is a confusing metric because there is "magic" type normal attacks which still get reduced by armor.
Will there be unit spotlights?
Great video!
This is beautiful
Just noticed that his crit icon is blade cutting something in half, not crab claws...
You should do one of these videos for each hero
Can you use the "displacement" from Mirror Image to jump through walls and gaps you otherwise couldn't pass through?
can we a grubby talks video about the armor interactions with weapon types, and which units counter each other?
I learned rifles do good tower damage from your uthermal training games
Spirit of the Grubby!
My brain exploded when you said do Lumber Damage.
hey grubby. can you do a video where you build your ultimate race. Which units from which race would you include in this race, which heroes, and what would the META be?
