You are SOOO...VERI...AWESOME! Your home is beautiful, as well as your items. LOL...your rant so... funny. That BOOM-BOOM room is amazing! My hubby will never ever...never, never leave. Gorgeous and that hidden storage. Thanks so much for inviting me to be apart of this collab. you are the best! Big hugs and kisses:)
Bemyguestwithdenise Denise Cooper Thank you so much. The hubby loves his boom-boom room. The layout of the unfinished basement was the number one reason we purchased our home. We definitely wanted to design that space ourselves. Spaces become more special when your own efforts go into creating them. Thank you soooo much for participating in this collab. You are such an inspiration!! xoxoxoxox
You have a beautiful house! Thank you for sending me to this video. I love your basement! How James Bond with your hidden cabinets! I agree with you, I hate oak!
Your oak cabinet rant had me rolling on the floor!!! You are too funny!! not only that, your home and organizational ideas are awesome!!! looking forward to more videos! Thanks for sharing! Many continued Blessings!!!
Stephanie Durham Thanks, I am glad that you had a good laugh...sometimes you gotta laugh to keep from crying...and that is how I feel about those cabinets...lol. Thanks for watching my videos and supporting my channel.
Keri thank you for sharing your highly functional, creative organization tips. Your taste in decorating is modern, sleek and classic. You are definitely an inspiration!
Roxanne M Oh thank you so much for such a lovely comment. I have really been trying to step up my organizational skills thanks to all of the lovely ladies channels that I have found on YT. They have been helping me tremendously...organization is not my forte.
***** Thanks! I am glad these ladies participated. I am glad that you liked my ideas. Actually, I am very weak in the area of organizing things. I watch these ladies and other fabulous women on YT and am learning a tremendous amount. Thanks for watching.
Mindy Laven Oh my gosh, shut the front door!!!! I love your channel....can't believe you found my little ole channel.....let alone subscribed!!! Wohooooo!! I am so glad that you enjoyed the video. By the way, will you be posting any more videos to your channel?? I've noticed that it has been 7 months since your last post.
WoW! I love how you converted the Art frame int a Table. And the colors you use were so delicate - I loved it! I have a picture frame about that size......mmmm. lol Thank you for sharing this. i always wonder how you all stored your things. I enjoyed this video.
Keitha M Girl, I wasn't even trying to be funny...like really who purposely chooses oak cabinetry???..lol. But, I am grateful that I have a kitchen to rant about...some people don't have food, let alone a kitchen. I am glad that you like my basement. The wide open layout of the unfinished basement was the number one reason we purchased the home. The hubs and I wanted a space that we could design to reflect our lifestyle. Somehow a space that is created with your own blood, sweat and tears makes it very special. Thanks for watching.
We hated our cabinets too and ours were much worse off than yours, but now that they are painted we love them! Sure you're grateful to have a home and so are we, but that doesn't mean everything in the home is always to your liking. I think your home is quite lovely and you have done a marvelous job! Enjoy!
Keri, it depends on how many layers of stain that you add onto the cabinets. The darker the stain, the less grain showing. Also you can paint your cabinets with an oil based paint to hide the grain as well. I know some people don't like the smell of oil based paint and it's long drying time, but you want durability especially in the kitchen because those cabinets are going to be touched a million times over. Good luck!
Keri, your home is beautiful, especially the "Boom Boom" room, I like the storage unit in there! Your kitchen is nice. Paint is an easy fix for the cabinets as it will hide the wood grain and give it a totally different look. I painted my white wash oak some years ago. They turned out great, and it was fairly simple; I'm thinking of changing the color again. Nice entertaining pieces also.
Tolejala Thompson Thanks. The hubby loves the boom-boom room too. I thought about painting them but am concerned that you would still be able to see the wood grain. When you painted yours were you able to still see the wood grain?? That is what I dislike most about having oak cabinetry. Ironically, I have oak wood flooring and I like that.
Veri Keri Very little wood grain and that was probably because I didn't prime them (on purpose). I sanded them just a little and used a good quality paint. I don't like a lot of wood grain showing through. I'll send you a picture on Face Book.
Love this video ... I agree w/ Denise you are so awesome ... Thank you for all the great tips and as always I love you keep it real with your followers ... The Boom Boom rooms makes up for the UGLY cabinets ;)
Scooter421Preps Awwww, thanks. And yes, I have to agree that the Boom-Boom room makes up for the ugly cabinets...lol. The unfinished basement was the number one reason we purchased the home. We really wanted to design something of our very own. A space feels that more special when you put your own blood, sweat and tears into a project. Thanks for watching.
I love your Boom Boom Room. I have the same kitchen window cutouts in white. I've toyed with taking them down too. They really add a bit of character to what would be a very bland space.
I couldn't help but laugh when you zoomed in on the wood valance over the sink. I had the same thing in my kitchen but took it down because it drove me crazy. Great tips on storing entertaining items.
MsSassyMT Isn't that piece of wood the worse. When you took yours down, were there holes there from the nails that held it up? Did you have to use wood filler, sand and re-stain that area?
skyeangel61 I am trying to improve my organizational skills. I have a very hard time figuring out how to store things. That is why I enjoy watching some of the fabulous ladies on youtube. They are helping me tremendously in that area. Thanks for watching.
You have some great storage tips!...I know how you feel about the oak cabinets. My husband and I are in the process of renovating; we are putting white glazed cabinets in our kitchen. I can't wait!
Lauren Mp Oak is for some people...just not me..lol. That is wonderful that you getting to reno your kitchen. If I had my dream kitchen....glazed cabinets would definitely be a part of the design. Good luck with the reno, I know it is going to be fabulous.
Your home is Beautiful! I am still laughing at your cabinet ranting. :) You remind me of my mom with your storage ideas. She stores her things by incorporating them into her decor. The name tags on your liquor decanters are cool. Did you make those?
Kelly Moore Thank you! Those particular name tags on the liquor decanters came from World Market...but I did make the ones shown in my Cheers and Beers video.
I know!!! Oak hater here too! We had our oak cabinets professionally painted (white with an antique glaze). Reasonably priced, FAST (gets you back to kitchen business in no more than a few days) and the improvement is stunning. Love your channel.
sheshickey That would be my dream kitchen color...white with an antique glaze. If you don't mind, can you please either put a pic of your cabinets on my Facebook page or email me a pic at verikeridesigns@gmail.com I would greatly appreciate it.
Keri....once again you did a MAGNIFICENT job! I love your idea of storing some of your entertainment pieces ontop of your kitchen cabinets. You made the space above the cabinets beautiful as well as functional. I also agree that it is useful to store some items as part of your decorating décor. That is a great idea for those people who do not have adequate storage for their entertainment pieces. In regards to your kitchen cabinets, I had a client that had that same issue and my team and I just sanded and stained them a beautiful expresso color. By the way, I love the settee.....is it blue in color?.... and if it is, I would love to have one in my kitchen. Where did you purchase it?....LOVE IT! My hubby said that he loves your Boom-Boom room....he said that he would call it "his man-cave"....LOL! I love it too! The built-ins were a great idea and all the niches are perfect for showcasing all types of decorative accents....how lucky are you....(smile). Here in Texas, we do not have basements...it has something to do with our terrible claylike soil. I wish we did because I would love to have a large room just like yours. Well, you did a great job and THANK YOU for inviting me to participate in your new series...It was such an honor!...Take care and be blessed!
***** Thanks. When you stained the oak cabinets the expresso color, were you able to still see the grain of the wood?? The grain of the wood is what I dislike most about oak cabinetry. The settee is light gray and I purchased it from Marshalls about 2 years ago. I have also seen it in TJMAXX and Homegoods in both gray and tan. The Boom-Boom room, well actually the whole basement is our favorite place in our home. The wide open layout of the unfinished basement was the number one reason we purchased the home. We definitely wanted to design and build a space that was totally custom and reflected our style. A space becomes a lot more special when you use your own blood sweat and tears. Thank you soooo much for participating!!
Hey Lady!!! I absolutely love this video series. You are so funny talking about your kitchen cabinets. I laughed out loud, because I feel the same way. I love my home, but HATE my kitchen cabinets. I try and pretty her up, but I hate those cabinets. I wanted my house to be like the model home in the community, but didn't pay any attention to those cabinets, until it was too late and they were installed. All the cabinets in the house were installed, and I would have to pay$ 500.00 per install for new cabinets. So I am living with them. Anyway, no more griping about cabinets. Why didn't I think about displaying my chafer dishes? Duh? Great suggestion, and I will throw away my boxes, and display those dishes. Sounds like I am burning bra's huh? Thanks for sharing. Juani
Thank you for directing me to this video. I love the wood cabinets in your basement. I can use your idea of storing like items over the cabinets, Thank you.
Lynn Dutt You are so very welcome. Hope you get a chance to check out the other ladies videos and maybe you can get a few more storage ideas. I sure learned a lot from the both of them. Have a great weekend.
I did check them out. The whole group of you has brought me back from being widowed and not caring to caring again. I guess we never know how we really affect others! Nikki, you, live love latte, and others like ya'll.
Hi Keri, really enjoy watching your videos and getting some great ideas from you. We all suffer from area's in our home that we are unhappy with. You could remove the wood in front of the windows and replace it with an updated valance. You might like it with a bamboo shade? I redid my oak cabinets with general finishes java gel stain and I love them. Thanks for sharing! Keri-Beth
Keri G A few other subscribers suggested I try the gel stain. The hubs and I will have to look into that. We need to decide on something because our cabinets need a little TLC after 11 years of abuse...especially the lower cabinets and the ones on the island. I agree that if I remove that hideous decorative piece it would greatly update the kitchen in an instant. Thanks for the wonderful suggestions.
We had oak at our last house and I said if we lived there longer than 5 years we change it and then we moved after 3. Any desire to paint the cabinets or reface them? I love the glass collection of top of the cabinets. It really looks goof up there.
***** I am a little concerned about painting them...I need to see a paint job where the grain of the wood is completely undetectable....that is the number one reason I do not like oak for cabinetry. Ironically, we do have oak floors, and I love oak as a floor option. The different tones the grain takes on provides a certain warmth to the room. We have to decide on something soon because they are in need of some TLC after 11 years of abuse. Thanks for watching.
Hi thank you for sharing, you have a brautiful home a nice kitchen. The Lord is good thanks God that you have a house I live in a apt for many years wanted to have a house and having a sick husband I have not able to get my home. yes I'M retire no enough to support two people. But i give thanks to God with yhe littler i have cause i have life. You are bless everything you have he is your provider. with all respect I did enjoy your tutorial. Don't let no one tell you that your place is ugly. No my dear take care keep on with your goals and God Bless👍⚘😊❤
I love how you decorate your home.I am a filipina and lived here in Sweden for more than 31 years now.I like the American homes classy and with colors. Not like here in Sweden they have minimalist.White color inside their houses & modern furnitures and very few things in their houses.
New subscriber and I know this is an old video so you may not see this comment but I’m completely with you on oak!! Hate it completely and I’ve been stuck with it for 13 years! 😂😂😂
Woohoo!! Welcome to my channel. I am so glad you found me, and even happier that you liked me enough to subscribe. Wouldn't you know I FINALLY got my cabinets painted. They are now an antique white with a glaze coating. I am over the moon happy with the results. Check out my latest video for a sneak peek on how I organized my cabinets :)
Hey lady. Im sure u know this but u can paint your cabinets. Just an idea. Check out pinterest.com n many blogs to gv u ideas. But your home is awesome still. N u r so organized.
Glamfairy Goddess Thanks so much, glad to know that you would want to do a collab with me, makes me smile. That is why I love youtube, all the love and support that I am receiving on my channel. Take care.
LOL! I'm one of those people who love Oak wood! I just do. It looks old fashioned to me. But I realize that every one have their likes and dislikes. I am one of few people who don't care for cherry wood, or any really dark wood. But that's just me. I like it in other people's homes, but it' s not for me. So, diversity makes the world go round! I love your videos and have subscribed!
Susan Ritter LOL...nice to meet you Susan! I never met anyone who actually liked oak. I do not particularly care for cherry cabinets either. In my dream world I would have antique white cabinets with a glaze over them to make them look a little distressed. The ironic thing is....I love my oak wood floors. I just don't think I like oak for cabinets. It is the grain of the wood that gets to me. Other subscribers have commented that I use a gel stain, but I don't think I want to go dark. You are absolutely right, diversity does make the world go round. Thanks for subbing and supporting my channel!!!
Veri Keri You know, you just reminded me....I also think the antique white is my all-time favorite cabinets! I love a lighter look for the kitchen especially, but I actually love white for all furniture. It just looks fresh and clean. I love your channel and have watched almost all of your videos and looking forward to more!
Rhonda Yoder Yes I do use a bottle brush, but a specialty brush made just for decanters because a regular brush is not long enough, and for some of the decanters you need a special curve on the brush in order to get into the difficult crevices.
You might not like your kitchen but it is so nice clean and organized. I do not like my kitchen cabinets and my cabinets are original to the house which was built in the 60's......lol
Shawntele Lewis Thanks! I don't like my kitchen.....but I am very grateful to have one. Sometimes I look back at this video and say to myself...."Self, you sound like a spoiled brat....lol".
LOL! I feel you on the oak cabinets, I have them too! Another subscriber already shared Organizedclutterbug's cabinets. I am ordering the gel stain and tackling it with my hubby. Check her out, her cabinets look great! I like that you use and repurpose everything. As always, great vid :)
Melissa Hall Yes, several subscribers have suggested the gel stain. My husband and I are discussing what we are going to do because after 11 years of abuse, our cabinets need a little TLC....especially the lower cabinets and the ones on the island. Please share your pics once your project is complete, I would love to see.
Just paint them white and change the handles with some inox and cut that piece of wood straight and it will look amazing. It's beautiful kitchen and don't be ungrateful because some of us don't have not even a simple kitchen. Anyway sorry for that. Tfs. Enjoy
Aristi Mourtzaki Those ideas you mentioned sound so simple and would definitely improve my kitchen's appearance 100%, but I am afraid that I might mess up. Although I am crafty, and like a good project...I cannot afford to mess up an important space like a kitchen. I think I'd rather roll with ugly cabinets (in my opinion) done right....than an obvious DIY gone wrong kitchen cabinet makeover...lol. Whatever we decide to do I think we will be calling in the professionals. Also, I do not like my kitchen.....but I am extremely grateful to have one. Especially considering how I grew up.....I have come a long, long way. I had to go back and listen to the video, and after listening, I can see how someone that does not know me can think that I must be a spoiled brat...lol. I think we all have preferences, whether big or small....and just because you prefer one thing over another does not mean you aren't grateful for what you have. Everyone has a "wish list" :) Take care and thanks for watching.
Dixie Thompson Why thank you!! I am very grateful to have a kitchen as I know there are many people without one....but I would have preferred to choose the finish since the home was new construction when we purchased it. It made my heart sink when the builder told us that if the family would have canceled the contract on the home 4 weeks earlier, we would have been able to select a finish that we preferred :) Thanks for watching.
Pamela Henry I know...those ideas sound so simple, but I am afraid that I might mess up. Although I am crafty, and like a good project...I cannot afford to mess up an important space like a kitchen. I think I'd rather roll with ugly cabinets done right....than an obvious DIY gone wrong kitchen cabinet makeover...lol. Whatever we decide to do I think we will be calling in the professionals.

I love how you decorate your home.I am a filipina and lived here in Sweden for more than 31 years now.I like the American homes classy and with colors. Not like here in Sweden they have minimalist.White color inside their houses & modern furnitures and very few things in their houses.
Dativic Wennström Thanks what a nice compliment.
OMG I would paint. Beautiful home though💕
I love love love your home. I would love to do a collab one day.
I love your
channel and have watched almost all of your videos and looking forward to more!
What about a bottle brush for cleaning?
Everyone has a "wish list" :) Take care and thanks for watching.
ps. I actually like your kitchen cabinets.....teehee.
Girl you could paint your cabinet and take that piece down.............
Omg I really dislike oak too!
Quit complaining about your cabinets at least you have a roof over your head.
That's why people "decorate". Not everyone has the same tastes. It doesn't mean you aren't grateful for your home.
Great tips and use of space.
