This video is almost entirely accurate, thank you for posting it. I'd also recommend using some disinfectant before applying a sterile dressing to minimise the risk of infection. It is after all the fist cause of death in hospitals!
They're temporarily applying the first sterile dressing to prevent wound from worsening they lift it, or should lift to disinfect then apply a fresh sterile bandage
They said "Clean the wound" then proceeded to clean everywhere EXCEPT for the wound and then dressed it with all the bacteria and a very high risk for infection. Good Job 👍
The injury itself is not contaminated. Its got whatever contents inside of it. If you clean the outside, it prevents the spread of foreign bacteria. I would still run my sore under warm water tho but that's just me lol. Also! You don't want to encourage any bacteria into the open wound.
You are right. The injured area should be properly washed under tap water and then dried before applying any dressing. Alternatively you need to repeatedly clean the cut injured area with different pieces of sterile gauze soaked with disinfectant to clean. They did unfortunately neither, which is not the right practice. The information I shared is from the 2020 GFARC guideline on first aid.
@@mohammadrafiulhoque9183 Running water is not always available and ambulance first aid does not rely on that for wound care. Yes, water is ideal, but is not always an option.
Correction! You must first clean the Wound before applying Gauze, if possible, do not use alcohol as this damages tissues as it cleans. a better option would betadine! when cleaning, it is ideal to clean an inch of the surrounding area the wound as well. after cleaning the wound, you then apply the appropriate amount/size of Gauze and apply appropriate pressure.
It really depends on the situation though. Alcohol or peroxide is absolutely useful to clean a wound IF running water is not available. This makes sense coming from an ambulance as they don’t rely on running water for wound care for obvious reasons and is why they include alcohol pads in mobile first aid kits. So while you’re right that water and mild soap is the ideal solution, it’s problematic to call this wrong as it may lead people to not clean the wound or that they should never use alcohol pads.
correction! do not apply anything, just wash well ,trim all loose skin so that wound is fully exposed and keep clean and exposed to air till fully dry . broken nail: clip all the nail that is detached ,wash well, dry,and keep exposed to air till fully dry ,blisters: pop blister, cut and trim all loose skin ,wash well, dry, keep clean till wound fully dry,, if wetted, rewash and let fully dry again exposed to air,,AIR IS THE BEST OINTMENT!!! i am not a doctor ,but you will not be doing anything else for cut ,wound ,broken nail or blister if you try this once,, it stops hurting the fastest it heals the fastest!! keeping a wound covered keeps the wound moist ,moisture is a breeding ground for infection ,its practically impossible for a dry wound to become infected
There is no time for cleaning if the patient is bleeding, you must do everything to stop the bleeding, this is your first task. As you know, patient can bleed out real fast, if you're afraid about infection or sepsis, it's treatable.
The patient was holding a pad on the wound when the first aider was cleaning the area, so the actual area immediately around the cut and the cut itself was not cleaned. Is this correct? Seemed odd to me.
Zoe Hancock that's what I was wondering too. Came here looking for clarity as my sons school think it's ok to just wipe a graze that's full of grit and other dirt then put a plaster on covering up all the dirt that's been left in the wound 😡😡
I'm watching this because there had been explosion and gunshot around and I'm injured by beinghit by random motorcycle, thanks mu cellphone is safe, thanks, this is not joke though
please post more clear information. This is very vague.Intially wounds are cleaned in all cases unless bleeding is not controlled . for a person with chopped fingers, you are worries about stopping bleeding first ,then clean later.
What is the best thing to clean the wound with. It is my understanding that Hydrogen Peroxide is no longer considered appropriate. Should iodine or alcohol be used? Triple antibiotic perhaps? Just soap and water?
I just got a deep laceration all the way to the bone in the webbing between my thumb and pointer finger. I really should have went it the ER and got a liquid Stitch because its still open. I fell backwards from a crouching position and jamed my thumb in a spray paint cap. I didn't notice it until I saw blood spraying all over everything. I didn't know the caps were that sharp. I should sue the cap company for not having a warning of the sharpness😂. Sad thing is I could probably win.
Terrible video! 1) Where is the list of items you need to buy for your first aid kit. 2) The trainer's face and narration is filmed in close-up, but the application of the actual first aid filmed at a distance in wide angle. Maybe the audience wants to see how the first aid is being applied?
I’m only here because I want to learn to help people when they are hurt
Same
No. Me too😊
Same I might go camping and I already know my cousins are going to get them self hurt or something and I’ll be there to help
Yup me too

I’m sure that was probably because it’s a demonstration.

You may want to rinse it offf after 3-5 minutes as it can harm new cells too.

Thank you so much for your help
Is it bad I am hoping someone gets hurt so I can help them?
shari troy maaaaabye?
shari troy That's the sole reason here
at least you're not alone..
Nope.....that is cute thinking!
Admit it, you are all here because you are learning to help when situations like this occurs
Yes
No we are here for the pizza and comments
No, I'm here because I have a small cut
For myself.
Well Obviously mate…
If you cover the wound with gauze it doesn't heal. You also would have to keep it dry, which can be hard to do so.
Is sterile dressing only for smaller wounds? If the wound is lacerated do we use dressing around the wound then bandage?
So you don’t put anything on it like antibiotic gel?
Simple and helpful!!
Nice one. Thank you.
Thanks 👍

saline, which is diluted sodium chloride to irrigate and clean it. Flavine can be used as an antiseptic to prevent infection.
Why dont you do suture when its a cut wound?
What can we do after some days hand become heavy
this is helping me because I do St Johns
This helps me way too much!
@@taylorteehungpiao4814 shall i use this St.John Ambulance first aid videos for my research study purposes?
1. Clean the wound
2. Disinfect the wound
3. Bandage the wound
When mom's away and your little brother goes biking
thanks
Don't forget the questions in between, patient may possibly be allergic, to the type of bandaging.
Thanks you
What if i don't have 4 pieces of material to complete this procedure?
Nice 👍

what if u dont have half of that stuff?
I just run it under tap water for a few seconds then dry it, never failed.
how to clean the dressing ? with rubbing alcohol or hydrogen peroxide or soap+water ?
Never use hydrogen peroxide, it burns like bleach.

I'm only here to be able to help my friend when her SH scars open.
You're not actually showing how to clean the wound. I cannot see the wound at all. How do you wipe? Across or in the same direction as the cut?
*IT IS WHAT IT IS BUT NOT WHAT IT IS BUT ACTUALLY IT IS BUT WHAT YOU THINK IT IS BUT MORE YOU HAIL TO IT IS IT IS WHAT IT IS*
