Even CPU's like a Xeon X5650 (very old 1366 6-core-CPU) or Xeon E5640 (1366 4-core-CPU) don't bottleneck new cards that much. They even beat AMD's FX 8350 most times and cost ony 60€ and 20€. So all the statements about Intel-CPU's for gaming are always expensive isn't true, since the older ones are cheap and still perform pretty well. E.g. a friend of me just tested Battlefield 4 with his X5650 OC @4 GHz (he got it for 55€) and a GTX 970 and he got easily around 125 fps on average, while most FX CPU's got around 80 or 90 fps with the same card (That's impressing due to the fact that I get 180 fps with my i7 4790K and GTX 1070 G1 Gaming). Since your 2500K is newer than the most old Xeons and FX I've mentioned and has the same amount of threads as the E5640 and delivers a way higher clock speed which makes a 4 GHz or even higher OC easier you'll be lucky. In games the most titles don't benefit from the 8 threads of the i7 (I only get benefits from my i7 for workstation tasks streaming or really good optimized PC games etc.).
