    The main problems with skill builds is that we can't always rely on them. There are EMP jammers, hunters can hack and turn them against us, some enemies need to be taken out fast, there are cooldowns etc.. They're also super boring

      Exactly. The prevalence of jammers and sniper warhound death rattle just tells me that the devs didn’t actually want skills to be used, they’re just there because div1 had skills.

      About the cooldowns, one build that ignores cooldowns is a hard wired seeker/hive build because any decent seeker build has less cooldown than the 30 seconds hardwired just skips

      Wtf are you saying...go and watch my 10 directives legendary build. Your problem is the striker drone. Use the artificer with the turret (that turret that will give you protection if you are in 5 meters) and stop listening to these that are only seeing numbers and not understanding how to play.

    I’m a SHD Level 28,100 player who has ONLY used skill builds. Going all the way back to Division 1 (Tactician or Technician, I think it was called).EVERYTHING I do in this game is with my skill build. EVERYTHING. This new update with modifiers didn’t change that for me. I will agree with you that those red builds and the people that know how to put one together absolutely destroy stuff faster and more efficiently but I’m a lazy player and I’m in no rush. I LOVE watching my turret/drone/seekers/hive do all my bidding. I don’t even have what you’d call a “powerful” skill build either. It’s just super effective and remains so even after the latest update. I’ve completed the modifier stuff 100% and ended up turning it off as I didn’t notice any difference either way (it was neither helpful nor a hindrance).
    I don’t use it on the 100th floor vs hunters for obvious reasons. That IS definitely where a red build shines.
    I don’t mess around in the DZ with it either because I find it useless in there.
    Love the content. You have a 2 year old video about Oxidizer builds that helped me out a lot, recently.

    Ive always thought that this was the trade off for DPS vs Skill builds. One puts you in the danger zone and the other lets you play AFK arena. So the damage output matches the relative risk.

      There was a time I would have vehemently agreed....
      and then a wild one-shot Model 70 (etc)/Determined/Headhunter/Bloodsucker appeared. Tea-bagged the 'high risk, high reward' narrative in to the next life.

    Even with all these changes I doubt I'm gonna swap out my sniper turret drone build anytime soon. Its nice to have a non sweat build to play for solo.
    Plus, all this fancy shmancy tech is "supposed" to be the reason division agents have an edge on the plebs anyway.

    Skills have always been a part what makes this franchise what it is. This dev team's incompetence knows no bounds. This is just one small reason why this game and Ubisoft as a whole are in shambles.

    Tbh the drone turret builds shouldn't be as strong as other builds as there's far less risk compared to other builds, so i think it's fine for what it is.
    The seeker mine builds though are gonna suffer without a "Explosive damage" attribute.

    Technically not wrong @dodregnbue, but personally I'm finding skill builds very handy with the latest modifiers (which I enjoy having on). Requital (snakes) don't reflect damage back from skills. Very handy as I'm still occasionally floored by the odd NPC not showing it's icon above its head ;-)

      Requital actually does reflect damage back, but it’s on whatever does the damage, I’ve had fights where a single elite enemy needed 4 striker drones because of the recoil damage.

    Skill builds might be worse in damage but if you wanna just chill when playing theres never gonna be a better build for it in solo

      Finally one who understand..i kill much faster with my turrent and drone cuz i aim them at the same enemie and i shoot aswell so when i take a public execution with my skillbulds it take 10 seconds and 12,5 seconds with my full red striker..and all the jammers it's so short time and even dps build have something as skill..decoy, shield, reviver hive..they dont work for up to five seconds if it's a jammer or invaded mission like Tidal or Roosewelt so skillbuild and dps and even tankbuild loose there skills a short while..And skillbuilds works fine from story to legendary..no proplems for me with that..even solo and in group it's good..if i play random with three with striker, they all die 1 to 3 times in a mission on heroic accept me who needs to revive them

    good stuff and when I watch your videos I always believe you done an honest job with research and facts --unlike some others.
    However, here's where I find skill builds easy and effective--my main things are Legendary or Open world with 4 or 5 directives. I run with randoms on a lot of Legendary and sometimes with groups of regulars. I have run Empress 3 piece with memento and glass cannon and generally use it for the opening fight but have run it to the last boss fight in every legendary where I always switch to strikers or PFE depending on mission, and PFE to make it up the stairs at manning and then back to empress or to HW depending on the group for the train area. Horses for courses. A lot of time I just go to strikers after the first battle. However with drone and turret Hardwired healer or revive hive I have pulled dead groups back. Even with the best DPS like one shot snipers and strikers (I find snipers are either great or too slow) the players have to know not to run ahead and proc and work as a team and where to be and when. This is not the reality with randos and running with well oiled teams all the time can skew perceptions. Sometimes there are situational drivers. I whip out the expertise 27 GR9 with in synch or strained when there are healing boxes and am able to burn thru heavies and healers and drone operators and dogs running around because even with some misses that gun will burn them down over time while I see the AR damage dip them and they heal right back up yet people wonder why I keep the GR9 as my secondary....because it gr8 (at times). this includes with directive and modifiers--meta? no Save our butts -yes

    This is why I run my BRO build with 3x Brazos(+Ceska&Grupo) instead of 3x Empress and all stats are CHC/CHD.
    60Mag Capacitor feels good man. T6 skills and Memento stacks are all you need for the skills. Much better to focus on weapon damage imo.

      That extra mag size is nice on every build man. Far too many weapons feel like you spend more time reloading than killing anything and that gets old

    To me, skill builds are perfect for when I want to play half-AFK. There's no denying that red builds are the fastest and most effective, but skill builds have their own appeal. First, they shine in a support role. Second, when I’m playing solo and not fully focused-like watching a TV show on another screen-skill builds let me stay in cover while my skills handle the enemies for me.

    Comparatively sure, but skill builds still easily clear content in a laid back and relaxed way! Lower dps is the trade-off i guess. It'd be more useful if they reworked some of the skills that no one ever uses.

    You don't know what you're talking about. I have every build you can think of across 4 characters & still use my skill builds the most. I have all kinds of skill builds & hybrid skill builds. The modifiers work with the skills too lol.

    Wait until the seasonal modifiers are more skill based. But yes, skill builds are ass, used one for the first year playing and I don't miss it at all.

    Its obvious with the new season they focused on rifles and mmr from fully auto to attachment mods like 50%optimal range and 30% stability

    I use the assault turret and striker drone with technician, Ninjabike backpack, picaro's holster rerolled to a skill tier, fox's prayer knees, walker harris chest with the talent spotter, palisade steelworks mask and gloves both rerolled to weapon cores. That should add up to 6 weapon cores, 5 skill tiers, and 1 armor core with 10% armor on kill, 15% amp dmg, 8% dmg to targets out of cover, 5% dmg to armor AND increased dmg to drones and robotics. I personally run 2 skill dmg attributes, 2 armor regen attributes, 2 crt dmg, 5 crt chc. Primary is the Harmony with a linked laser pointer and crt hit chance as it's third attribute, secondary is the capacitor, and the sidearm is a tdi kard custom with the talent future perfect, cause 1 kill with the pistol will give yourself overcharge. I stopped playing before they added fully automatic rifles but this was my all time favorite build before the update. I wonder how the build does now after the latest update.

    you can't shoot through a wall or kill from another room with a DPS build but you can with various skills.. but I know you are speaking from personal preference, I like to use both depending on the situation. they are not the worse builds in the game, I could mention a whole plethora of builds that are less useful than a decent skill build..... nice to see you back at it again 👍

    well eclipse and future are skills so those are okay...the little thread that keeps skill builds alive...non-damage roles. Skill damage builds have always been the slow ride or the "not here, this is heroic."

    This is why the game is (from my point of view) getting worse. Red builds have been getting harder and harder over the years. And people focussing on maxing damage means a group of random players will charge through missions at the hardest difficulty. There is no real challenge. The need to keep your head down and use skills, the need for crowd control, all now unnecessary (I mean you can run an Eclipse build and have fun making it even less of a challenge…) but the challenge of the game is gone. The only appeal now is playing with friends. Anyway, back off to Auroa. Have fun.

    Fully agree on DPS outperforming skill builds. However... When I enter random legendary I always put on a skill build. Reason being that still a substantial amount of players with a DPS build don't perform well in legendary. So while my skills district the enemy I can heal teammates. Funny thing: since the ff-ing modifiers are active I do more damage with my skill build than others with their full red strikers. Like I said: if other players play better this shouldn't be the case.

    Skills are the pets of MMO's, there isnt much to say about em except.. its kinda a safe way of fighting, but once they shut down the skills, you be gimped beyond saving. I just enjoy them more in a way when doing just pug missions, specialy my seeker mines spam, in a way it feels like the technician of Tabula Rasa (anyone remember that game?), im not the best.. but im happy.

    They need to in pvp. Cap with infent seekers when you get inside is stupid fun and funny and the purp chem build in cap is still king when you prep the door before opening the gate right before your inside. But fire build was mashed into the dirt lol lol

    To answer the title question....NOPE they arent dead, use em all the time and still get most kills 90% of the time even when people run strikers or dps, and I'm not a skills only player, run dps also. But i feel like dps buikds should always be better than skills cause skills allow you to be more lazy

    Skill builds are what got me through my first legendary mission when it first dropped. 🤷 It's always a safe build to use. It ain't useless.

    They need to Buff Turret/Drone by a lot to make it at least an option. All blue Stricker or HB are still stronger now then a 6 Yellow Build, so whats the point of using them. Agree 6Yellow Builds are worst option you can pick now.

    I love skill builds they were my fav for a long time and few friends i ran with there was nothing more funny then us all chucking in our turrets and drones at the same time to watch the NPC just go mad trying to get the all lol, with certain builds the turret was just a threat whore and virtual tank, loved watching the chungers sitting there trying to hump it then just die, the old stinger hive status builds were fun aswell. I get it they are not as exciting as all red stirkers or DPS, but i fail to see the point in comparing a skill build with a DPS build, DPS is just that not wiggle room =, i find skill builds are more varied and versatile in their application and primarily were never meant to be a DPS carry they have always been support and interference, hence tanky turret and drones. I never played my skill build to out play a pure DPS build, though at certain times it could compare given right conditions lol

    You need to learn to aim both your turrent and drone and shoot the same enemie, there are full red striker 22 % after skillbuild..and about jammers are mostly in summit or like invaded missions as Roosewelt or Tidal but we have grenads and emp sticky..i do a public execution in 10 seconds with my skillbuilds and 12,5 with my full red striker with 60 % chc and about 172 % chd with cesca chest with obli as talent and coyote..so skillbuild kills faster cuz you have three weapon who shot the same enemie if you can aim your drone and turrent and just shoot..and Capacitor have a lot om dmg to armor and all extra for every yellow is 7,5 % weapon damage X 6 = ?...do your math

    I hit you once you’re dead. unless, your running 3 or more arm. I hit the ground and your in the vicinity you’re dead. I do 1.5m up front damage not even upgraded all the way. Green sets are useless for high skill damage builds in my experience unless you’re going for some sort of support build then they’d be more beneficial

    Go do legendary with all red. Maybe DIstrict Union Arena. Other than that good luck in tidal Basin without a dedicated healer. I have been playing for less than a year and I can honestly say you don't know what you are talking about.

      @@elfmz i was also thinking of that mod for turrets that gives it the benefits of the difference distances, so that with the short distance one that increases dmg at the cost of taking more dmg, if my striker or turret takes more dmg but gives out more, thats fine, they come back in a few seconds.

      im enjoying my turret striker quite a bit, red dps are getting eaten by the mods, and i can hang back and even save the group at times, like a heroic summit full group, my turret kept us from being overrun while they were reviving themselves, one even laughed and remarked about the turret, it was taking a beating and doing good dmg. one of the bottom mods is good for turrets, and allows you to get the benefits of the other mods, so one of the short distance mods that gives you more close dmg but you take more dmg, is useful, because if my strike dies, its 8 seconds to get it back, while turret is still at it, working.

      @ yup… i agree… only those who dont know the full capacity and the roles of skill builts are those who are not open to it. I had all builts… and i dont bypass everyone. when i use mine even in countdown the jammer helps down hunters easily..
      Anyway.. thats only me.
