Always loved this thing! Odd that it's the only one ever built. One would expect that megalomaniacs the world over would want a transportable yet stable platform to hide out on.
This ship was slated to be scrapped in 2023, but was saved at the last minute in 2024. Now on schedule to be overhauled and put back into service for research.
Not sure why they didn’t just have the living quarters just all in one rotating cube on pivots instead of flipping every single thing inside of the rooms???
The initial budget of the ship was probably twice what they thought it would be, maybe why there’s only one. ha ha Instead of FLIP they should call it the Highlander!
Came from reddit too lol, never seen this before like many! Amazing how many thingd aren't common knowledge. Imagine seeing this out at sea on your little boat having never seen this before..
So silly two of everything... Make a suspending cabin. That stays upright no matter the angle of the ship... Then lock in place when the desired angle is reached. Eg. Rolls royce wheel caps. 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
I just discovered this piece of engineering and I'm literally speechless
I looked it up again cuz I just read it’s finally retiring and being scrapped
I know right, how have I never heard of this thing before?!
same here, sadly it is being retired
And it's from 1962!
Looks like you found some words.
Only ship that can shift from landscape to portrait mode
A serious problem arises when you are sitting on the toilet and the ship is skipped 90°
Dont worry just sit on the vertical toilet
i was looking at 0:55 and thinking about the 2 sinks and then the toilet problem....
true r.i.p
Here from a reddit post and this is astonishing
you know it's a good thing when they use meters as a metric system .
No cap 😅😂
Titanic : it's not cool

You think they’d tell the public if they had one?
This is the closest thing to real-life Thunderbirds tech we have yet to see.

7 seeds
thats the anime i was thinking of.
its crazy
I came here because of that anime 🤣
This is like from a sci-fi movie amazing and cool!
"DO A BARREL ROLL!"
Speechless
This video is vertical, please flip your ship to portrait mode
Not sure why they didn’t just have the living quarters just all in one rotating cube on pivots instead of flipping every single thing inside of the rooms???
Cost is probably the main limiting factor.
The initial budget of the ship was probably twice what they thought it would be, maybe why there’s only one. ha ha

@@skullfracture2There can be only one.
Crazy a baseball manufacturing company engineered this
Just learned about it today.
The damned thing is 62 two years old? I'm 56. Never heard of this before today.
“We have two seats in the bathroom”
*points at sink*
Me: oh no
he said sinks
This is insanely wonderful, coming across such piece of creativity explodes my mind....
Sealab 2021

other ships : "what a showoff"
So beautiful😊❤
It turns 90 though
I feel, the scientist who invented this ship model is very fond of fishing. where he found the idea of his fishing float.
really interesting .
Terrifying but ace!
One small step for man... one big middle finger for the ocean..
11 year old youtube video, im viewing history ON history!
Genius
Incredible.
wouldn' Floating Instrument Platform be FIP?
yes but its not as catchy so they rounded it up to FLIP instead
1962. Damn
É uma engenheira desafiador, mas contudo, deve se aceitar o reconhecer o trabalho.
Where are the floating cars
i had to doublecheck SEVERAL TIMES that this is not fake. It isn't..
Technology is going backwards
Flip is older than me
Its amazing
Titanic where's rose and jack
Who is here because of the Facebook post lol
Joder esto me recuerda a piratas del caribe, estoy tratando de asimilar el suceso GOAT.
wow
Thought it would be a flop 🎉
Who’s scrolling through the comments?
No wonder the USA is in such much debt LOL
How did humans come up with this? Lol. Before you say science, who came up with the science and using what technology???
Why?
Cool
So basically it does very little 😴

Floating instrument platform
F.I.P. Great engineering but how much was paid to people to come up with that name 😂
This should be a marketing technique, because when I see very dumb comments I feel compelled to go and check their profiles.
@@criol1 so my comment was dumb huh ?
