I remember in high school when this unplugged concert came out, many of us started to not only learn to play guitar but also furry cardigans became very popular.
Years ago I knew this guy from Chile who was learning English the time Unplugged came out, and learned playing guitar from that album. He could play the album whole, but the funny thing is he had to include those bits of chatter than were included on the album... for example, when he played About a Girl, he *always* started with "this is off our first record; most people don't know it".

I was 12 when he died and heard about it in the Radio the same day; it definitely was an event in my early youth, but so I won't cry for anyone because he was good in anything and didn't want to live any longer; look at the people forced to live in this world, and then cry
bwahahahahaha
@@NubsWithGuns If you don't want to talk about it, then why do you answer?
It's okay and maybe necessary to idolize specially gifted people when you're young, but with adulthood that should come to an end; the real tragedies in this world are much more gruesome and horrible than the event that a quite young man decides to end his life; If you read his diary (which I think you did), then you know how much He suffered from chronical pain in his stomach and that this was Not only one of the reasons for his addiction, but also for the decision to committ suicide. Besides that I think like the Romans and many other people did before Christianity took control over both body and mind of our ancestors, that every man with dignity and pride should decide by himself when he wants to end his life; Kurt seems to have been such a man, and If it felt right for him, I totally respect his decision.
A dark, melancholy song. It really conveys the inner demons that Kurt was battling. Rest In Peace Kurt.😢

0:37 Dave - "Do you have a smoke pat?"
- both go backstage, have a smoke, and watch their great friend play a tune.
They should correct the wording here to: "Do you have a smoke Pat?", instead of- "do you have a smoke pack?"
Dave seems really nervous to not make Kurt unhappy. He just seems a little on edge but not showing what's bothering him. They were debating taking Dave off the Unplugged show because he kept playing too loud during rehearsals, I'm sure as a drummer and a person that probably felt horrible to hear that his band was going to replace him for the most important concert they'd ever play. Dave admits that the last year of Nirvana things started to get kind of dark with all of the drugs around and Kurt criticizing his drumming on In Utero and the rehearsals to this concert. They still loved each other though of course and Dave probably doesn't want to say much negative about those days

I agree 100% bro!! I'm also recovering, the I'm on warm milk and laxatives cause of the opiate constipation, and in my case, cherry flavored antacids cause I've struggled with horrible fucking heartburn and ulcers from drinking so much as a teen and into my early 20's! As much as I continplated suicide during opiate withdrawel, I was always a lil thankful when I would see the worst alcoholics in rehab! I've seen and helped with more seizures than I can count and watched one guy bite half his tongue off!!
how does being an addict in recovery make the song slap harder
@@sealmcneal4036 He’s literally talking about heroin addiction. “I’m on my time with everyone” heroin addicts distance themselves from loved ones. “I’m a liar and a thief”. The camera angle at 3:57 as Cobain is playing the final sad notes of the song with the audience watching on in complete silence and full attention with none of the other members of the group visible is for me one of those special moments where you can see the simple yet charismatic attraction that Cobain had on his audience. But seeing him briefly by himself also gives a poignant portrayal of a man who was extremely popular and beloved yet very lonely.

The entire concert was lights out. Unbelievable talent.
I was a teenager, obsessed with rap music, then one night I saw this performance on Mtv, and my life changed. I became a metalhead from the very next day
Porque no los dos? As a kid, I was obsessed with rock, metal, death metal, grunge, punk, industrial and I still am. As an adult, I started giving some rap and hip-hop a chance, and some of it just floors me. I think it was dumb in the 90's that so many of us segregated our musical tastes. You saw less of this as time went on and some acts tried fusing the genres together, like Korn and many of the Nu-metal bands of the early 2000's. Over time, I've learned to appreciate talent wherever it lies. Give me some of that Lil John Krunk with a side of old school Dead Kennedys. It's all gravy. Even pop music, I'll give Brittany Spears a chance now when back then I wouldn't be caught dead. The girl can sing.
If it sounds good, I'm on it. Broad, broad horizons and tastes. Though I still get down with some Cannibal Corpse. Give me some of that brutally extreme Death Metal. Works better than a cup of coffee first thing in the morning lol

For all the young ones, Pennyroyal Tea is epic and is his cry for help, and in some ways the unplugged is their best album, for me if you want raw Kurt listen to live at Pine Street and listen to School, Floyd the Barber and Dive back to back!
Young, fearless, in the moment, giving it all he’s got!
That 3 in a row for me is Nirvanas best!
Fuck, they are all good but the energy at some of the early gigs is the real Nirvana!
Whatever way it went down we lost someone you only see once in a generation or 10!
Flawed, fragile, beautiful! His obvious pain made him but unfortunately took him as well!
how was it his cry for help?
@@elizabeth6768 I can speak for it because I have the same disorder Kurt has (bipolar depression). Pennyroyal tea (the actual tea) is known to help with stomach pain, as well as to help with abortions. In this case, Kurt is using "sit and drink pennyroyal tea" as a metaphor for his attempt to distil and abort the troubled soul within him, potentially purifying it draining the bad stuff out. This was especially the case when he was in severe depression with stomach pain. The song is basically about him wanting a cure for his depression. I was in a similar situation myself, where everyday after work, I'd just sit in my room all day thinking to myself & trying very hard to drain the depression out.

The thing about Kurt's guitar playing is that it's ramshackle and barely holding itself together and yet somehow it works beautifully. It makes me wonder whether he was much more skilled than he seemed and that it's a spot on stylistic choice.
He was right handed playing lefty by choice! That itself is a remarkable skill...
@@detroitrcwurks998 not really by choice his first ever guitar he got as a gift was a lefty
I think he was a really talented songwriter with an incredibly unique voice, but he also played guitar. Also, back then, a lot of underground bands played this style of noisy and sloppy guitar. You just pick up a guitar and start strumming until something sounds good. In his case, I think his ear is just much more sophisticated than his guitar playing ever got. He could get the sound he wanted with power chords and use the melody of his voice to add tonality to them.
@@detroitrcwurks998 this guitar is strung left handed though.
Kurt absolutely was more skilled than he put on at the guitar. Either way his ear for melody is hands down the best I've seen along with Lennon and Elliot Smith

Today's kids don't know what they missed.
For the 90's were the best time to be young.
Man what I wouldn’t do to just watch him play on his own. What beauty
When ever I hear this version of this song, it just makes me cry. You can hear the pain in his voice and see the pain in his eyes.
Please shut the fuck up.
@@RockDeKasbah tell me about it lmao, it’s so fucjing annoying
Ya. My Fav. Song
@@sebastiangaspardealba2527 I think Cobain would cringe hard as fuck at comments like these. Stop your fucking sniveling.
Chills listening
I'm now 40 years old. When Kurt died (1994) I was then 14😭 and I'm still listening his 102 songs! He might be so happy that his best friend Dave Grohl is now on top of the world 🌎
Saying "how much this guy look like Nirvana's drummer" turned into an internet meme, no matter what he does he wont catch the success of Nirvana days.
They actually hated each other, unfortunately. Look it up
30 years ago! 🥳🎤🎸🥁
This song is like being on the edge of the abyss. It's the gateway to Kurt’s soul.
Maybe it's weird, but I feel this song down to my core.
Dave calling over Pat for a smoke so Kurt can have the spotlight, I wish I had a bro like that
LOL right.
join a band, they do that quite often 😂
I read that dave was actually pissed cause they rehearsed this song together and then kurt decided to do it solo
Zerro Nyx how can he be pissed if Dave told him that he should do it by himself
alego 723 he is now, everybody Kurt knew failed him
Grande Nirvana, como los grandes grupos de la Historia musical. Merece el mérito de tenerlo. Hermosa canción.
What kind of perfection in his voice.
It would've been your 53rd birthday. Thought I'd take another listen to this song. I forgot you sang it with no drums, no bass, solo acoustic. I think we were all hypnotized by the distorted guitars & the glow of your fame. We missed the cry for help. I'm sorry.

😥
@redlightflash not funny.
@redlightflash i am - signed kurt cobain
🤮
No body can see into the future. He doesn’t look so sad to me, but I guess it’s a matter of perception?
Oh that voice though! Oh the world is so lucky this show was recorded 💜💜
I love the relationship between him and Krist and Dave.. so playfully and sarcastically mean just like a real life friendship...
Krist: that sounded good
Kurt: shutup
They truly were a few buddies just making music because they loved it and that is where the most beautiful music comes from. I know there are trillions of songs out there played by buddies together just feeling the vibes that weren't recorded or recognized. Been there. We are lucky this type of stuff is constantly recorded because really not too long ago if you weren't there, you missed it.
Amen 🙏🏼
I think it was Dave who said that sounded good.
@@leemcqueen500 was it? Well either way doesn't take away from the concept that these were just homies making music. Which is my favorite time when making music. Good friends connecting thru sound and having a good time doing it.
I really hate to be that guy but they were on the fringe of breaking up here but you would never be able to tell. Dave said whether he died or not nirvana was going to end. And In a recent New Yorker article (it’s an absolute must read) krist was said to have told Kirk he didn’t approve of his heroine use and after that he Kirk would hangout with other people and make krist feel unwelcomed at the time of this event. But I agree they do look happy here.
The article is called my time with Kurt cobain - the newyorker it’s a long article but you can’t stop reading it
Krist was a douchebag. He was going to join another band and didn't because Nevermind was a hit
Yeeeeah! New notification from Nirvana = open immediately
It's so hard to describe how good this is, the best thing I can come up with is that Kurt performing just feels like home, so relaxing
30 years and this shit doesn't get old
I know kurt had a lot of pain,if only that nice guy new how many people loved him, he could still have been around today for us all and the lovely frances his beloved daughter. Watching him brings tears to my eyes .
here to celebrate kurt’s bday❤️ he would be 54 today...
stoppp I am crying rnn I wish he was still here
00:08 Dave:🥁🥁😄
Love this so fricking much you don't understand.
Kurt you never die in music industry.. you are always my no.1 idol
He was a fragile soul I guess, reaching out for all the other fragile souls
and my god with a shiver down our spines, and a tear in our eyes he reached us
he reached us all.My darling Kurt, I love you little fella, I wish you where alive
but you are in all our hearts we can always watch you here"Digitally immortal"
Rob
Oh that touches my heart very well put...tears in our hearts he's
with us in Spirit....I think God sent him to us specially...I live him dearly♡♡♡♡
I'm happy that Nirvana is finally officially uploading all of there Unplugged videos
