Lovely vid! For those who may not like the play-off system, or thinks it's nonsense, in the MLS (looking at you Zlatan), it's practically similar to how European clubs qualify for EUFA Champions League. Depending on how many EUFA coefficients (EPL currently has top four automatically qualifying) each league has, only a certain amount of clubs per league qualifies.. So technically a third place team in either EPL or Bundesliga can win the ultimate European soccer/football trophy, while the season champions can lose in either the group stage or knockout stage. So is the American play-off system as absurd as it seems? Nope. It follows a similar route almost all Champions League around the world - and the WC - follow. In fact, one can say it's its own "mini-champion" maker - just for the sheer size of the nation.

One thing I will mention is that the top 4 from each conference are able to host a home playoff game based on season performance. Also I believe the 2 teams who are the top of their respective conferences are given a first round bye in the playoffs. (Meaning they automatically advance to the 2nd round.) Hope that helps!

How do they play 34 games in total when one conference has 1 less team than the other conference. It's at 14 team's and 15 team's now, but the same still applies.
Hey bud! I need to do a video on the new play-off format - The top seven teams in each conference are given byes to the first round. The teams ranked 8th and 9th in each conference compete in the Wild-card round, with the winner advancing to face the 1 seed in Round One.

Open cup is separate and the final was in September last year. MLS conference semi finals were in November
