I work for an after school program in Germany. This week the 3rd graders learned how an election works and how an election needs to be in order to be considered democratic. The US-Presidential election meets 2/5 points. For comparison the east German dictatorship (DDR) met 3/5

The Electoral College was put there in for reason. That's so that it couldn't be just controlled by a popular vote but it also had an electoral vote. So that way a person can have complete ruling power in one party at all. The other thing also it is is that the states that have the bigger Electoral College as far as New York, Texas and California for example have the most electoral college interns for votes but other states get a chance to still provide their vote regardless. And even if you have a big vote in one state that carries over still the thing is every vote counts what other it's a small boat to a big vote in lead the leading one in the end.
