- Indigo Park is perhaps the most-derivative mascot horror game ever released, to the point where one questions where inspiration ends and imitation begins. Indigo Park's similarities with games like Poppy Playtime, Five Nights at Freddy's: Security Breach, and even Garten of Banban are SO uncanny, it becomes hard to believe that they're all a coincidence.
...and yet, Indigo Park does some thing better than ANY of it's contemporaries, and it has a lot of good things going for it. Furthermore, it's free, so the value proposition is infinite.

Indigo park was this guys first actual game with a small team that made it in under a year. The first chapter was fully funded by him out of his own pocket. It annoys me when people expect this game to have the polish and finish of say poppy playtime chapter 3. Like first that’s a company second it took them three chapters to get that good. Some criticism is valid I’m not saying the game is perfect but for s first game it’s a very good start with great potential. You can tell the people making this game put a lot of passion into it. Just writing the whole game off as a cheap mascot horror copy game is annoying. Being mascot horror doesn’t automatically make it a copy.

Exactly. The fact that he constantly meat rides garden of bam bam and poppy playtime is annoying as well. He expected this game to have 20 new mechanics when in reality this is a small team putting love and passion into this new game and all he can say is “at least garden of bam bam is unique” and “IS THAT THE MINECRAFT TH-camR!?” Yes the game needs to be judged in order to improve. But this isn’t even a review it’s more like complaining that indigo park is similar to a BUNCH OF OTHER INDI HORRER GAMES. Not everything is gonna be original don’t complain about that.

Apparently we’ve reached a point where every mascot horror game is a ripoff of each other.
Mascot horror games DO hit a lot of similar story beats because they center around the corruption of something that was intended to be loved by millions. That’s why we see all these dead children, experiments, shady businesses, etc.
This means the stories largely rely on their characters and presentation to differentiate themselves and stand out.
Also ik everyone else has said this but this game is 100% not a cash grab it’s literally free.
Edit: Originality and Inspiration go hand in hand. People are inspired by things they observe in the world around them and apply certain aspects of what they see to their own creation(s). Take the many games in fnaf fanverse initiative if you’re looking for an example. People look at what Scott originally made and are inspired to put their own story ideas, characters designs, etc. into their own projects. (You can also take a look at the music industry if you’re not convinced.) I could add way more examples both in and out of the gaming genre because they are quite literally infinite.
I think that mascot horror game stories are so similar because… what else could you do?

The game should be criticised. Without criticism, game devs don’t know what to improve, and cannot hone their skills and improve their games. However, the game is a free passion project made by one person, and should therefore be criticised as that.

At this point it’s almost impossible to make an “original game” anymore. No matter what indie devs do it gets compared to other games.
I think that’s true for most games when you think about it. Bayonetta compared to Devil May Cry, Palworld to Pokémon, Mortal Kombat to Street Fighter, and so on and so forth

Also sometimes taking someone's idea and put your own spin to it or fixing what made the others not work is a good thing. As long as it's not a direct rip off and you trully had your own idea that just used same mechanics or borrowed few plot points, but isn't a copy it's all cool. THIS, one of the best pieces of advice I was ever given when it comes to any art form is that stealing from others isn’t a bad thing, as long as you do it well. Not just games, but drawing, music, dance, everyone has stolen from everyone.

He might've been pretty harsh considering this is UG's first real game, but he wasn't wrong to say the game is pretty bare gameplay-wise. I've found that the comment section is super defensive of this game and, while I like it a lot, it certainly isn't perfect.
Hopefully UG will improve as they go.

Honestly, you can't prove me wrong when I say this, Theft King is completely out of line, and he's not learned a single thing from the drama. He's only learned how to be worse and be more idiotic.
Hes basically trashing a so far incredible game that's a work in progress and was being worked on *BEFORE* Poppy Playtime Chapter 3. He judges it based on references from other games and how 'low poly' it is.
Might I remind you; this game was made by a single person. He can't just expect people to be REALLY good at making mascot horror games, especially when its only one person working.
And taking information from the drama, I'm really surprised that people still watch his content, like his content, and subscribe to him.
The part that REALLY fills me with rage, is that he compares it with BanBan. BanBan basically had no soul, no talent, and no specific idea. Indigo Park basically fixes that.

Okay so, the game literally just came out. They made it in just under a year, and it's free. They are planning on expanding their dev team, and want to explore more of the world/ characters their created. I think chapter 1 is pretty solid for being all those things. Besides Rambly is just adorable. I can see the inspiration the game took, but, I do think it is pretty unique in it's own way.
I for sure am looking forward to updates, and future content. Besides, whats so bad about getting something new to play, and explore. Especially when it's free as of now. Besides the game is a passion project after all. I'm happy for the creator. And i'll be returning for more!
every mascot horror game now is the same. place for kids. someone went missing. place closes down. cute mascots. investagations. SECURITY BREACH GAMEPLAY. chapters. and sometimes for god sakes make the mascots colorful blobs. over and over and over. you can't tell me you haven't realized that.
