Pole fishing is amazing and everyone should be using a telescopic pole. I call it speed fishing and I believe it is the next big thing. They are very strong. Most are made of fiberglass. The ones for sale on my pole fishing website are all fiberglass. They can hold 18 lb. line - not my recommended use - but definitely can stop a decent fish. bit.ly/3LH9fmR < Pole fishing tackle and poles.
Telescopic poles are very strong if you buy the US Version. If you try to get them from overseas, they will be brittle, built for smaller fish and you won't like them. (Note they fish for much smaller and lighter fish with the import versions... US brands fit in your hand much better and are way more comfortable.

Only way to break it is to walk and catch it in the rocks - or from mark or dent from previous fishing trip. Will last for years.
