He records this later in a rather naughty aspect and in a more blues aspect and makes it another banger! Elvis just rocks this song all the way around. TCB Seph
He really could. It’s extremely difficult for any singer to master just one genre of music over their career. Elvis could sing ANY style of music with believably & sheer talent. ❤
Please react, on TH-cam or not, this song but the X-rated Blues Version. It is the Best!!!!! It's so Bluesy, like you've never heard him before and it's hilarious!!! ❤❤
Great bluesy song that Elvis seemed to enjoy getting down and dirty with - agree that it is not the best song on the album but love his versatility in being able to sing almost any style of music amazingly 👑🎧🎵🎤🎶💛
For me this song always seems like the odd one out from the Memphis Sessions. It's a fantastic groovy blues number that would have been perfectly placed, if only Elvis had made an album truely dedicated to "The Blues" genre of music. What a masterpiece that would have been!! Joe Cocker made a statement that Elvis was the greatest white blues singer in the world. I always feel sorry that his artistic genius in this genre was never fully recognized by the establishment. Great reaction Seph👍
Elvis leaves his contemporaries behind with this song performances, totally unrestrained, using all his infectious mannerisms as he delivers a blues/rock/soul masterpiece. It was outtake 1 and thankfully wasn't refined with extra outtakes.
I just love how Elvis just lets loose here, let’s the band do their thing! This song is very groovy! When I listen to it in my car, I’m sure drivers next to me think I’m crazy! He really shows his versatility in this song. ❤
Agree, one of the best albums. Love his bluesy songs! On another topic, earlier you mentioned that you love seeing Elvis perform his songs, as all of us do. There’s so many live performances coming in the 70’s. I know you listened to his hits from the 50’s, but did you ever watch his first appearances on Ed Sullivan, Milton Berle and Frank Sinatra shows, where he performs them on national tv? I may have missed it if you did because I joined your channel later. But if you didn’t, it’s a must see from the standpoint of Elvis history and just music history in general!! It really shook things up back then!
I love this song! I can't sit still. The zithar was a very unusual instrument in these days. The X RATED BLUES VERSION is brilliant too. Thank you Seph!☀️💚☀️
Had Elvis been doing tracks like "Stranger in my own hometown" in 1965 Lennon would not have had cause to criticise him on his artistic direction when they met at Graceland. This jam session recording goes some way to give an idea of what a Presley/Beatles jam session might have sounded like.
Elvis is a master of the Blues.... He was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (criteria is "mastery of the genre") He's also in the country, rock, gospel, and rockabilly Halls of Fame. A master of music!! No one else even comes close to being inducted into so many genres... I think Johnny Cash is next with 3...but one of them is Songwriter Hall of Fame. Xo

Someone told me that it was a jam session during the recording of the country album in Nashville. Got to agree with you Seph. Not amongst my favourites and wouldn’t choose to listen to it. Bit too repetitive for me although Elvis does sound like he is enjoying the session.
An interesting observation in Jorgensen’s A Life In Music “The next tune up was a blues, “Stranger In My Own Home Town”-a perfect choice, surprising only because Elvis rarely recorded straight blues. This was a selection from that brief period of intensive listening and home recording in 1966, when Elvis had begun rediscovering his own musical foundations. The song’s lyrics could be read as a gloss on either his life in Memphis or his place in the rock world circa 1969 (“My home town won’t accept me/Just don’t feel welcome ’round here no more”)”
Before I say anything: DO NOT REACT TO THE X- RATED BLUES JAM SESSION VERSION YET! TOO SOON! Percy Mayfield was born in 1920 in Louisiana but was raised in Houston, Texas. Moving to Los Angeles in the mid-1940’s, Mayfield was already writing prolifically and secured recording contracts with small independent labels while at the same time hawking those same songs to others. Upon signing to the larger independent Specialty Records in 1950, Mayfield’s career took off when his debut for the label, “Please Send Me Someone To Love” hit #1 on the charts, soon becoming something of a standard in rock as well as one of the genre’s first explicit message songs. Over the next few years Mayfield was a consistent seller with his brand of laconic ballads sung behind the beat boasting deep and introspective lyrics, often of a despondent nature, all of it with a jeweler’s eye for detailed wordplay, giving him seven Top Ten hits over two and a half years.
