You evidently have never seen a dragline run by an operator that knows what he’s doing! He threw more dirt IN the canal than he removed, and he didn’t even know how to get the bucket into the water to begin dragging it!

@@tomt9543 nahh man, the guy was stripping the grass off of the soil to get it ready for the next operation. He was intentionally trying to not disturb the embankment. The grass was then thrown into the canal as it would eventually rot away.
I’ve operated a dragline in almost the exact same way clearing canals in Florida. Man I tell ya taking precise skim cuts only a few inches deep is exceptionally difficult....even more so on an embankment. Also he keeps tension on his drag winch cable as to not let it touch the dirt....dirt really wears the cables out fast. It acts like an abrasive once its coiled up on the winch drum. This guy is most definitely a skilled operator.

Too many revs, there is an optimal engine speed and over revving is just wasted fuel.
