    Great to know I have another BBQ brother "up north" as my family and I visit The White Mountains (Campton) a few times a year! I'll be purchasing those cubes today!

      Hi, thanks for your comment! Yeah, Campton is about an hour from where I live in Woodsville. I love the Weber Lighter Cubes and also found a new brand of fire starters that I'll be reviewing in a video soon. Let me know how you like them after you start using them!

      Thank you. I appreciate your comment. I think you can even get by using one cube to start the charcoal so you can conserve them. We love our deck! We live in an octagon house so the deck wraps around half of the house. It's like living in a tree house!

      I actually bought the cubes on Saturday and used them at my buddy's house. Used two like your video and it worked great. Sadly in our corner of the world we typically have patios and not decks. Octagon houses are also rare, although I have seen a few dome homes. Still very cool. I'm sure you could frighten many children by saying you "live in the octagon!"

    Those who said 1 cube works are correct! I ONLY use 1 cube all the time and it always lights my charcoal, even large chunk charcoal. Also, I use 1 cube to light my fireplace, and I don't use ANY kindling. I burn oak, and out of the dozens of times I've used these, I had one fail. I've always been a newspaper and kindling guy, but these have totally spoiled me. I suppose I should try some other brands, but really.... why mess with success?

    • @lifewithgrilling
      @lifewithgrilling  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi DR, thanks for your comment! Ya know, I've never used these to start my fire in my woodstove. It sounds like you are very successful in doing so. I usually use a few pieces of fatwood but sometimes I think they come a little bit wet from Home Depot or Walmart. So they don't always light up that well. I tend to burn oak, maple, birch, beech, or ash as I typically order 3 cord each Spring. Those are the prevalent woods where I live in NH. I appreciate letting us know that 1 cube will do it. I learned that pretty quickly after I made this video. Thanks again!

    Just a question. Why are you starting a batch of briquettes that appear to be already ignited?

    • @lifewithgrilling
      @lifewithgrilling  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi AZ, not sure what you mean honestly. I always use some leftover briquettes from my previous cook after I pour in some fresh briquettes so I don't waste the old ones. So, at the top you are seeing old briquettes from my previous cook that can be used in this cook. There are mostly fresh briquettes in the chimney starter.
      Thanks,
      Bob

    as compared to newspaper does weber lighter cubes produce less smoke and less odor. and heats the coal faster?

    • @lifewithgrilling
      @lifewithgrilling  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Homer, I didn't notice that the charcoal heated up any faster than using newspaper (it was very comparable) but the smoke may be a little less than using newspaper. The smoke is only really for the first 5 minutes or so with newspaper anyway until it burns out. I plan on using the Weber lighter cubes again tonight and I will take special notice of the smoke and report back. This is a good question.
      Best,
      Bob

    • @lifewithgrilling
      @lifewithgrilling  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Homer, I made it a point to note the smoke and the smell this evening when I lit the charcoal. There was a comparable amount of smoke (compared to using newspaper) with the Weber Lighter Cubes and there was a slight off-odor but just for a short time. It might make sense for me to create a video with a chimney starter started with Weber Lighter Cubes and another one started with newspaper and have them side by side. Then I could chronicle the differences between the two. Thanks for the idea!

      Bob

      @lifewithgrilling  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Nick, yup it works with one cube. I tried it and another viewer commented that they also used on cube. So don't waste using two or you can just stick with the traditional newspaper or Kingsford Charcoal leftover bag!

    Do the cubes ad a lighter fluid flavor to the coals?

    • @lifewithgrilling
      @lifewithgrilling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Aaron, when you first light them there is a chemical-like smell but I really haven't noticed that imparting into the charcoal. But it's a really good question because I despise lighter fluid! I appreciate your question.

    • @aarongonzalez2156
      @aarongonzalez2156 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@lifewithgrilling me too! In a blind taste test I can taste food that was cooked with lighter fluid! Yuck! So the cubes add no such flavor?

    • @lifewithgrilling
      @lifewithgrilling  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Aaron, certainly none that I have noticed whatsoever. I think any potential chemical odor, etc gets burned off of the charcoal long before you pour them. I guess for your own sanity you would have to try them but I have noticed none of that and I'm pretty picky!
