- Ethan Stiefel is one of the most celebrated dancers and choreographers in the world. His wife Gillian Murphy is a super star ballerina at American Ballet Theatre, ABT, in New York City. The pair have just moved to Princeton, NJ to become the new artistic director and artistic associate of the American Repertory Ballet, based in Princeton and New Brunswick.
Eric Schultz produced this behind-the-scenes profile of the couple. as they begin their work with the ARB dancers. Joe Conlon was the DP and Dan Gordon is the narrator.

Are Gillian and Ethan both retired from active dancing ?
He was at one point considered by most of this world to be the "most advanced male ballet dancer in the world". But then... age and injury eventually reared its inevitable head. It all caught up with him. It's what waits for every dancer--especially in ballet. Professional ballet.
Still, let us continue to look to him as someone who was once considered the very best. Since he hung it up, he's been running a bunch of ballet companies. He's been jumping from one to the next as they haven't been working out. Let him keep right on doing it. When you're too old or banged up to be up there on the stage, you put it together.
One Peter Martins himself gave up the limelight to be a choreographer and a company head. Ethan should be able to do as much. Good luck, Ethan.
