I grew up watching both, the ORIGINAL was better!
It's so sad. They copied so much from Living Single including episodes, but sigh...
@Denise Christie i don't think so, because it was on fox and fox shows did pretty good but it was a BLACK SHOW and we all know that black shows just don't get the love that the white shows get. when the white shows get to their finales they make a big deal about them but blacks shows get no send offs or big build ups to their finales.

Wow! I watched T.C. Carson's interview first, so I know he was fired, not just left the show. There is a major difference. I fully respect T. C. Carson for standing up for the cast and himself. Knowing when to speak up dispute the possible retaliation from the producers, took courage. Thank you T.C. and the cast of "Living Single." Your show is an African-American classic!!👍🏽💜

I don't think they would have brought him back. They say the show only lasted for 9 more episodes after he left. And the site was canceled in mid season. If they all would've walked they would've just let the show fade away. They simply don't respect black sitcoms. Even the Jeffersons didn't have a finale they just didn't call them back for another season after 11 seasons on air, they'd never do that to a white show

Yeah I thought when TC Carson left and Kim Fields seemed to be on a little less, then a bit less, I thought this would be a shift in the show, that would be similar to “Three’s Company” like when Chrissy left,,,,the Cindy left and then Terri came on. Or similar to “The Cosby Show” when the show sifts when Denise comes and goes, and then Vanessa goes off to college, Elvin and Sondra were on a little less each season,, and then Cousin Pam came on. Since It takes me a while to get used to changes,, I thought “Living Single” was doing a similar thing, but then suddenly it was gone! That really sucked. I agree 100% about Kim Carns! I love her! I didn’t see the game show, but I love her BFF show with Erika Alexander! So silly 🙃

Yeah if I remember correctly (I could be mistaken) but I think Tempestt wanted to go to college, and was actually going but her character Vanessa was a little younger, I think. So they wrote in that Vanessa had studied super hard and throughout her summer in order to skip her senior year and go straight to college. I was really sad cuz I love Vanessa so much, and when that season started and she moved out, I felt like “Hey we’re supposed to have one more year with her before she leaves for school!!” The Roseanne show did the same for Lecy Goarnson when she wanted to leave for college, so they wrote Becky out of the show. And yeah I do remember a lot LOL! The TV was baby sitter friend and family for me as a latch key kid in foster care so I took my TV watching everywhere!

I was angry when they took this show off with many other black shows I loved so much
All the black sitcoms were intentionally removed and replaced with ratchet, degrading reality shows that made us look horrible
I never knew Regine left the show or had a farewell episode; I stopped watching after Kyle left, it just wasn't the same. Nothing against the trip character but trying replace characters rarely works ( and didn't here). Too bad, one of my all time favorite shows.

Definitely one of the best sitcoms ever! I miss the 90's so much.
I’ve always said this show went downhill after season 4. First Kyle left, then they brought in Tripp. Then Regine left. All of this in addition to the fact that a show about single friends featured a married couple (Overton & Synclaire). The show most definitely should’ve lasted more seasons, but only with better writing /producing.
You know what after watching living single for so long i never really related the title of the show to the show itself. It was about actually living single and they had two of the friends hook up and get married lol. So they obviously weren't living single anymore. But hey they kinda did the same with max and Kyle too.. they just didn't get married but i have seen them featured on half and half. They were married i believe and had a daughter.

So the characters weren’t supposed to evolve lol? The major appeal of the show was depicting single people navigating life. Part of life is searching for love and, surprisingly, two of the characters actually found love. Overton and Synclaire started out single like everyone else but I thought it was a strong choice to show that all the struggles/bad dates that the characters went through could actually pay off one day. 🤷🏾♂️

All Friends & LS did was add MORE friend characters. Neither one is original.

@@jog8483 In truth, I never watched "Friends" but I did watch "Living Single" for the first season or two - maybe three. The program was entertaining when it the story lines focused on the "Flavor" magazine workplace concept and attempted to build the personalities and relationships of the characters, in seasons one and two.
After that, the story lines got progressively ridiculous and the characters got even more progressively "CARTOONISH" - even insulting - particularly the (incredibly stupid) Overton and Synclaire characters. They were written to be "dumb as stumps" and they over-acted in those roles - perfectly - to a FAULT. Is this "Comedy"? It was - after a certain point - "insulting" to us viewers, if you want to be REALLY honest.
The other characters became exaggerated caricatures of themselves, too. They were all TOO STUPID to be real. Maxine became TOO GREEDY - if not "wicked", Kyle - TOO RUDE and OBNOXIOUS, Queen Latifah - TOO TOO FAT, Maxine TOO OSTENTATIOUS and "GOLD-DIGGING"....etcetera, etcetera... (Real question) Were they "acting" or really just "playing themselves"?
For me, the characters went from being very likeable people - during the first two or (maybe) three seasons - to being very UN-likeable and creepy, after that. I stopped watching. Most likely the first two seasons are the only episodes that are showing regularly.
There's no one to blame for the program's cancellation except the PRODUCERS and the WRITERS - whomever they were. Hopefully they are selling flood insurance in Death Valley or Hollyweird Hills, somewhere. They ruined the program. "Living Single" just got to be too dumb. (TC Carson thinks he was "too strong and too black" ha, ha -"Kyle" you're definitely NOT "too strong" or "the greatest actor of all time" but go ahead "blame, blame, blame" if it works for ya.)
"Race", "Blackness" or the lack of there of, the "Friends" program, "politics" or any other reason offered, have absolutely NOTHING to do it the demise of "Living Single". The last few seasons - SUCKED and the cast should have been embarrassed by them.
Many programs focus on making SOCIAL and POLITICAL statements. In particular, some black sitcoms often focus too much on making the program too "black" (thanks again "Kyle") whatever that is supposed to imply. Producers would serve their audiences better if they just left the political bullshit out of the script and tried to develop the characters into BELIEVABLE and REAL people to be identified with - maybe even to be "looked up" too - by younger viewers.
In short, like many TV sitcoms - "Living Single" - included, LOST IT'S FOCUS. The writers lost their imagination, maybe the sponsors wanted it to "say something" profound. Instead, it missed on those lofty goals and IT "DIED". For whatever reason, It was definitely time to change the channel by the third for fourth seasons.
😂😂😂 And just think one of the guys from FRIENDS said the other day "They should make a black version of Friends"👀👀👀 Bitch Friends copy Livin Single

Keep in mind that Forbes underestimates wealth by up to 50% in some cases; so Kim Fields might be in the $15M neighborhood. But for what she did, that’s peanuts.
She has been in two top shows, plus countless commercials and guest appearances.
If she were starting out today she would earn closer to $50M, or possibly more...no doubt.
Tv doesn’t really pay unless you’re Jaleel White, Bill Cosby (or part of his tv family), Emanuel Lewis, Gary Coleman, or a white actor.

living single laid the blueprint so many sitcoms still follow to this day. many ppl mention friends but sex and the city took from this formula as well. all the well-written black/poc-centered shows from 94-04 were all canceled (nickelodeon, disney too) and replaced with whitewashed copies.

I remember Kim Fields music career... Slightly. Kiki Shepherd used to have a show similar to the Apollo and I remember Kim with long blonde dreads performing what seemed to be rap/poetry. The show was never the same after Regine left... But her ending was a good one, finally getting her millionaire. The final show was honestly a good one. I would've loved to see more seasons though. They always abruptly end black shows.

Living got a good ending,but should have went with 3 more seasons if not 5 more to make it 10

Friends totally bit the Living Single concept, but they received a big fanfare on NBC and a proper ending. It's fine if you don't recognize that, but that's the way it is and that's the way it has always been.

I really hate that shows like Martin and Living Single only ran for 5 seasons. They could have went even further. Wouldnt ever needed to be a reboot. Once Gold gone to Platinum.

By the late 90s, all of FOX's popular black shows were no longer on the air. The network was trying to be more mainstream aka "Less Urban". "Martin", "Living Single", and "New York Undercover" were all canceled by the end of the decade. "Living Single" was the #1 show with black people throughout its entire run.

Wow I didn't know that TC was fired off the show. Thought he left of his own free will. He was my favorite character such a strong black man who stood his ground which white Hollywood don't like.
It needed 7 seasons!! I hated when Kyle left but it was a very good story line for him and Max, and I'd have brought him back in season 6 or 7. Series finale: triple wedding between Khadija/Scooter, Max/Kyle, Regine/Russell. 💪

Those are his words quoted directly from an interview he did. What he meant was because he had to take the lead on all of the grievances it caused the behind the scenes staff to dislike him, I believe.

There have been plenty of white television shows that lasted longer with people on the show that made demands that were insignificant or downright petty. This seems like they didn't like the fact that he wasn't onboard with looking foolish on television in front of his people.

Even though I was a white kid, me and my sisters watched this and I use to love this show. It was on the same night as the Simpsons. But kept watching it to the end. I did wonder where the show went, as I got sick of reruns.
I think Kim Fields should take over Mrs Garrett"s role on Facts of Life. It would give the show a very modern and fresh reboot .
