  • This is the original/Guy Sigsworth version of "Magical Child" from "Every Mother Counts," NOT the mix that is featured on Havoc and Bright Lights bonus track/deluxe version that was done by Joe Chiccarelli.
"Magical Child" is a new song from Alanis' Havoc and Bright Lights sessions. It will NOT appear on the new album, but is available on the compilation album Every Mother Counts, Volume 2, which supports Christy Turlington's charity. Please pick up this record at your local Starbucks during the month of May. $8 of every purchase goes directly to the charity: www.starbucks.c...

The new Alanis album, Havoc and Bright Lights, produced with Guy Sigsworth, out August 28, with the first single "Guardian" (link above) out May 15. The tracklist for that album is as follows: Guardian / Woman Down / Til You / Celebrity / Empathy / Lens / Spiral / Numb / Havoc / Win and Win / Receive / Edge of Evolution
It's quite simple when I'm listening
you keep leading me all the way home
    these messages you've been offering
    as a magical child
    an essential child
when it hinges on the driver seat
it depends on who's in control
when I waver on the attuning
    I kill a magical child
    this essential child
    oh
to thine own self be true
to my core self be true
    when direction is confounding
    when vitality is far gone
when the spark is out, uninspiring
    I call the magical child
    the essential child
    oh
to thine own self be true
to my core self be true
when I'm lost and I'm unraveling
    when I'm off my track
    and I float
    when I need true north
    and some grounding
    I call the magical child
    the essential child
    this angelic child
    this innocent child
to thine own self be true
to my core self be true
    angelic child
    magical child
    essential child

Supposed Former Infatuation Junkie is the greatest album of HER. I can still sing along to "The Couch" even after 14 yrs has passed (without looking at lyrics) Lol.

True fans know that Alanis's BEST work is her non lp stuff...songs like London, These R The Thoughts ( which I have on the Joining You Single before it was put on the Unplugged album )...and of course the music that was on Feast On Scraps ( it was left overs from Under Rug Swept ).....some you fans who have not heard songs like Sister Blister should check it out

god when poeple will realise that artists are not robots and they actually change through time...this is evolution of someone who was 20 and its now nearly 40...im sick of people complaining of the 90's artists that "lost" what they had in their first steps..why cant we just be happy that some of them are still standing and making music...if you dont like it listen smth else.

Vocally and sonically fresh. Even without listening, just reading the lyrics is like poetry. Such a rarity these days...

I absolutely love this song. It really inspires me as an artist in my own right. I spent an hour driving on the highway to nowhere with this song on repeat...Im really looking forward to Havoc and Bright Lights.

Alanis is my favourite artist for 15 years. I have a lot (and greatest moments) of memories from 1995, when i listened the first album. Alanis is "uniqué"...

I love that the lyric-style is calling back to the SFIJ-era, but with a much sleeker vibe. Beautiful!

Followed this angel from the 90's, through little pill to flavors of entanglement, amazing evolution. Beautiful, untouchable, tainted perfection. Always thrilled to hear you darling.

sometimes I think he tends to overproduce , other times I think he hits the production spot on. the thing is that Alanis, as much as I love her and always will needed something fresh as far as her format was concerned. Acoustics are great but there is only so much you can do there.

The song itself isn't great, but this being just a contribution to a compilation, this was not meant to be catchy or hook-y. I do like the sound though, and I think it bodes well for the actual album.

the problem is, if Madonna grabs herself to things related to who she is (or must be) now and acting her age, she'll just vanish from business and no one will care about her.

Grow up?!!! I need my "nads" back to do that! An' then I'll be getting it on like Barry White... oh yeah, he's dead now.... sorry, my bad. Didya know that he died from complications of high blood pressure probably brought on by a high sodium diet? I've got a vid on TH-cam that shows the "Healthy Stealthy" way to make Lo-Salt Spaghetti. Production-wise, it sorta stinks, but it shows a healthy alternative to the typical salty crap we usually ingest. Ur gonads will
