Brentwood High School Theater Teenys Revisited 2021

For the past 12 years, the Islip Arts Council’s Teeny Awards have celebrated local high school theatre students and given them a platform to show off their tremendous talents. This year, musical theatre actor and former Teenys winner Ryan Rodiño hosted the “Islip Arts Council’s Teenys Revisited.” Brentwood High School’s performing arts program kicks off this multi-part virtual celebration.
Sophia, a student of Brentwood’s performing arts program, credits her teacher Rachel Ferzola with helping her come out of her shell and become a more professional artist. She plans to bring these lessons and newfound confidence to the professional arenas she enters in the future.
Another student, Edgar, describes the feeling of returning to the stage after a long hiatus.
“During the pandemic, we couldn’t be on the stage,” he explained. “When we came [back] here for the first time for drama, I stood on this stage and I felt like I was home. It felt amazing.”
Performing arts student Sofia was able to feel some of that camaraderie with her varsity soccer teammates, but missed being on the stage. Participating in the Teenys Revisited 2021 meant a lot to her.
“Seeing the emotion of other seniors saying their speeches, telling a prayer, it was such a beautiful moment that I will remember forever,” Sofia said.
Director & Choreographer of Brentwood High School Performing Arts Rachel Ferzola feels emotional seeing all of her senior students be able to perform one last time.
“It's a big deal,” she said. “Looking at all of them ー they missed out this year and it's sad, but i feel so blessed and so thankful to have given them this opportunity.”
Angel Perez, coordinator of Performing and Fine Arts, puts it simply.
“The arts is really the glue that keeps us together.” .
