Manila’s “Home for the Golden Gays” was among the few bricks-and-mortar care facilities for the elderly LGBTQ community in the Philippines. However, when the facility closed more than a decade ago, most of its elderly residents were left homeless and struggling in their final years. The surviving Golden Gays are now trying to build a new permanent centre for themselves and future members. The group has been accepting donations from sponsors, but they insist on performing in drag in shows of appreciation.

@@ObiSantalouis SSS in the Philippines is not going to be enough. My dad worked for over 30 years and SSS told him that only 10 years could be counted. His previous employers allegedly did not put through his contributions. They still didn't have an online monitoring system when he was working so he could not validate this. His previous employers have already closed. He ended up getting 2300 pesos monthly for his pension. This amount was during the pandemic and barely enough for a decent living. He was so disappointed that he did not get anything out of his hard work. The lord has already taken my dad now. May he rest in peace. I guess, the lesson is that, if you will rely on your SSS contribution, you will die sad and penniless. The best advise for financial wellness is to save money and, when you have enough, put it on wise investments.

Unfortunately, I tried to look them up on Facebook, but there are no pages or accounts related to them. I wanted to help people that have the means to help them. Sadly, I can't seem to find any contact information.
It is sad to see those who paved the way for next generations are in vulnerable situations regarding whatever community.
My God, I could the pain ni Mamo at the age 87 he could still remember that horrible day.

@@rowchannel75 yeah but they’re already old. I don’t think physical or labor activity like that is recommended to them. Plus, entertainment is one of their forte so I think it is better that some comedy bars such as Vice Ganda or anyone may help these people.
I cant stop smiling and a bit teary eyed while watching… these people are genuinely happy with their lives! They dont have much, they dont have THE 100% support of the society but i believe they are much happier than most of us! Their struggles are the source of their strength their loneliness is the source of their faith! Kudos to these beautiful golden gays!!!! ❤❤❤❤

This is so heartbreaking for filipino elderly who’ve dreamed about owning a permanent home until the end of their time. I hope & pray that one of this days there’s going to be a good philanthropist that can offer them roof over their heads. Being gay is really tough cuz most human beings don’t understand how these people feels. Please Golden Gays be strong for yourselves. Depression hits them really hard. PTSD!!!

Am i the only one here who cried by seeing them looking at each other's back, taking care of one another and still facing everyday's challenges together like 😢 if i could only helped these kind of people i would. They deserved a home for the aged where all of them will get the proper care and treatment they need. Nakakatuwa kasama sa bahay yung mga ganto, masayahin, puno ng humor tapos maraming experiences at madidiskarte kahit matatanda na.

As part of the lgbtq community, these stories both break my heart but also give me so much pride. These men really crawled their way into society so younger people like us could run and enjoy the freedom (although not without consequences still) we have now. I don't know why most people give hate and repulsion to these people wherein they have done nothing wrong. Our community is not perfect, and some have done actions that are bad and let us not generalize na purket LGBTQ+ is bad. Wala silang tinatapakang tao. It's so homophobic na galit kayo sa "kasalanan" pero most are done by real men and women.
Beautiful people...when I was in high school, my parents were not around, and I had many gay friends and they taught me life lessons, thank you my mamas and lolas for all the lessons,for the laughter & tears & naughtiness & kindness... love u❤
