'Lion' and 'Oh My God' are (G)I-dle taking their music to another level. I agree the anti-chorus works really well here, and changing the last chorus by adding the pre-chorus beat to it works amazingly. And the MV is just stunning, it's one of those MVs you want to watch again and again to catch all the amazing shots, the imagery, the symbolism...

    This MV is a masterpiece.
Read the lyrics and watch the symbolism. It's even more 🤯

Here's another one of my mini-essays:
As far as I can tell, the MV works on two levels. On one level it is deeply symbolic story of innocence, temptation and fall into depravity. Soojin has been confirmed to be a seductress demon, and the other girls her victims. She is bound by the purple straps, then gets free. Some resist her charm and remain pure, some fight her off but are tarnished in the struggle, some fall for her and fall hard. There's all this Christian imagery, the white of heaven and red of hell, the crosses, the apple, the Latin (”ab imo pectore”, “from the bottom of the heart”, i.e. with great sincerity), the wine/blood, everything in the video works to support this storyline.
On another level, it seems to be a social commentary. The name of the album this song is on is I Trust, and Soyeon has said that it is about staying true to oneself, even under adversity. While the girls have never said so directly outside the lyrics, it seems to paint a picture of lesbian love, particularly in a restrictive, conservative society (such as South Korea). The chorus, in English, uses "she", and even in Korean parts (specifically Soyeon's rap verse) the female pronoun is used (which is not really used in natural Korean, except when you want to be absolutely clear on the gender, like in translations). The song also has an English version (and Chinese, and Japanese too). The English version is much more explicit (though it wasn't written by Soyeon, but by the translator, so one can have doubts about how closely it follows her intention). The height of this storyline is in Soyeon's verse, I feel (”Is this a call from hell? Can’t stop… How in the world am I going to get away from her? […] If this is a sin, I will happily take my punishment”). People sometimes think that she is in a toxic relationship, and that she is trying to get away in order not to get hurt by the other person. I interpret it differently: what she is afraid of is the pressure of the society to conform. Her cry is basically "why could I not have fallen in love with someone I will not be judged over?" She tries to deny her feelings, but in the end accepts that this is who she is, this is what she feels, and she should trust herself over whatever anyone else thinks. Even if she ends up suffering, love is worth it. While it does appear it is about homosexuality, I believe it is actually about any kind of situation where societal pressure makes one deny one’s true self. And if it was actually about homosexuality (or, equally, feminism), they could not admit that outright - Korean industry has blacklisted artists for such things.
Soyeon herself said, in an MTV interview, "I didn't want to limit that 'she' to a certain being or a certain definition. So it's open to anything. I believe that all kinds of love are valuable and must be respected. That's why I don't want to limit 'she' to something specific.” There was a bit more to it, look up “Rising Stars (G)I-DLE Are Defining Their Own Genre” on MTV, if interested.
I also think that the title is just trolling Nevies. Because almost everyone ends up saying "Oh my god!" when they see it. And then they'll laugh self-consciously. Just how transparent are we, to Soyeon? :) Both this and Lion are indeed film-making masterpieces, really: pure art.

Oh My God was my first introduction to Idle and it's still my favorite thing they've done. It's a phenomenal song. Put it Straight Nightmare Ver. and Lion are close seconds though.

The drop just gets me everytime & the rap, but the whole song is great, the whole video is full of symbolism that could be interpreted in various ways. There's too much to explain though might be best off watching as n explanation video. They have 2 versions of the performance, light & dark both worth watching :)

The Korean-Language lyrics for this song are crazy for what can be found/ what is allowed in Korea. The English-Language lyrics are DIFFERNT than the Korean-Language lyrics and that new song is MIND-BLOWING! If Koreans knew what the English version said, they would deport Soyeon.

You know how wishy washy I am when it comes to picking favorites and ranking songs. My favorites will always depend on my mood and they will change on a regular basis. It's literally impossible for me to commit to rank favorites, except in this case.
As I said in my comment under your Lion Reaction, I consider Oh My God and Lion to be peak IDLE and they are the one and two songs, respectively, on my list. Not that their later releases are bad or that I don't like them, it's just that these two hit different, and I love it.

Have you seen Maria from Hwasa solo album? If you love this video I know that one will blow you away... and LMM... and I'm a B...
BTW, I find it hilarious that you just happened to look away because of Soyeon's amazing rap and didn't see her licking the barb wire at the end BOTH TIMES! 😂 I kept waiting to see you react to that part, and you missed it both times. 🤣

I hate to admit that I wasn´t in love with the first at first few listens and I remember thinking that the verses sounded outta place in between the choruses but I´m so glad that I made up my mind by now cause this song honestly just slaps. Great concept, great styling (the girls ate that shit up and never looked better doing so) and a definetely a worthy follow-up to Lion. I´m not always in the mood to listen to it, but this song still deserves to be part of every kpop playlist out there. this statement might be a bit far fetched but realistically, this will only be read by like 5 people, so.. who cares really :D
    FAVS (10-9,4)
    Put It Straight - 10
    HANN - 9,6
    Uh-Oh - 9,4
    AMAZING (9,3-9,0)
    LION - 9,2
    GREAT (8,9-8,7)
    Don´t Text Me - 8,8
    Oh My God - 8,8

I understand why you're not a big lyrics checker (especially in kpop) but in this case since Soyeon has written every title track and basically every non-Minnie, non-Yuqi B-side I think you should at least try to read the translations, even though they're pretty bad!
