Caleb, It was terrific to see you at the store! Great job making the gaming community go strong! - Chris @eStarland 💪
The way you price your games is a huge turn off. I go to game stores to find deals and rare games at a great price. Guess at estar you can get screwed buying games as well as trade in's
If there’s not much competition where you’re at and you’re selling why just lower the prices? Like one shop I go to galore in one county that’s more poor, one shitty GameStop, people still pay 50 for Mario odyssey, Zelda, Luigi’s mansion, but they do decent trade ins and the more u do and they know you’re coming back then I could negotiate a little. But in a nicer county they have way more Nintendo games more at 45-40 for popular titles. But the trade in is a little less. It’s mostly a retro store. Got resident evil 2 for the n64 for 45 bucks which was my happiest purchase there yet.
@@gasNmudtvikr no one buys these games to play them religiously it's an investment and with that system it's a daily futt buck and also Caleb what's your excuse for not owning your own " estarland " Migrating ? English ? Education ? what's your excuse ?.
My favorite game store growing up. Such fond memories especially in the older smaller location. Wonderful staff and amazing games.
@@gasNmudtvyou must be a DK oldies fan boy
It was a little strange growing up, but my dad made some amazing sacrifices to get here and I could never be more proud and happy for him. Thank you so much for making this video! And thank you to all the fellow gamers that made it possible.
You’re the son?? So cool what’s your top 5 games
Your dad is the owner of the establishment?
Look at my old games being repurposed. Very cool vid.
You didn't wanna play Rage anymore, RGT? Me either. I also own it.
You have helped another collector achieve his collecting dreams. The passing of the torch. Carry on good and faithful servant 😮
RGT he didn't even show the game he traded for, so who knows if he actually repurposed it🤔🤔🤔
You’ve become Mr Emulation as of late i appreciate you as always
Didn't expect to see my favourite Nintendo TH-camr in the comments
Local Virginian here. Estarland is the pinnacle of what it used to mean to go into a gaming store. Rebecca is a goddamn treasure and the model is really great for both traders and for buyers.
Only thing with their size is that they are still trying to keep up. System repairs can take a while but are really great quality and their staff really do care.
Thanks for your comment, it means a lot. Rebecca and our whole team are all great and really do the most! 💯 We’re always trying to grow and expand to keep up with the growing business, so you can expect those repair times to improve in the very near future. 😁
we need more stores like this in the world
As a casual reseller, I've been using Estarland for years to thin out excess inventory that's been sitting around too long. They give surprisingly good credit on certain titles, which I turn into personal collectibles or larger items that are easier to move online.
Thanks for your support over the years! ❤️❤️
I actually interviewed the manager for one of my last college papers. I absolutely love that place.
I was so bummed thinking I'll never get to go here because it's in KY, but then when he said where it was, this is only 20 minutes away! Great video, Caleb!
Sooo if they’re selling games at market price why would I even bother visiting this store when I can just stay home and buy them on eBay for the same price or better and not have to get dressed or use gas in my car and waste my time?
True, it comes out to about the same price anyways when you factor in shipping. In my personal opinion there’s no real reason to go here, unless you want that nostalgia feeling of going into a video game store, but even then other stores do that better and cheaper.

It's always so baffling when succesful people don't realize they are on that survivoship bias lol
Yeah. For every successful business owner there are 100 who worked just as hard and weren't successful. I think it's very hard for successful people to admit this because they feel that it invalidates the work they put in or something, but that's just a poor attitude to have.
not to mention inflation over the years plus speculative inflation of the game market, not sure if caleb is trying to push his positive everyone can be rich by reselling brand bs or actually believes it
Especially when chris had a GREAT idea at a great time that he did it. Not saying it wouldn't be viable today. The biggest thing other than "just working hard to become successful" is by having a GREAT idea and committing to it early on when it comes to these things and situations.
I remember seeing Starland ads in game magazines back in the day. I knew they were still doing stuff online but didnt know they had a walk in retail location! Very cool stuff.
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Give Riff a raise
Its a nice feeling catching a game store slip up on something, this takes the fun out of it but if i really wanted something they had i guess id give it a shot
You can easily abuse this system depending on how the market value is calculated. If it's pricecharting for example condition or variants can make a massive difference. Also rare title can have in accurate price charting values. But generally I agree.
I've been going to eStarland since I was a kid, back when they used to be at the intersection of Braddock and Backlick Rd in the late 90s. I always recommend this store to anyone in the area when buying or trading games. Great Video!!!!
Wow, can't believe you went to eStarland! My all-time favorite retro game store. I work at a nearby Gamestop (I know, the enemy, lol) and send people here allll the time. Excellent selection, and the fact that they have a very reliable website for those who don't want to drive is so cool. Can't believe I missed you! Love seeing local businesses get recognition. Hope to see you sometime on the east coast!
Was not expecting to see an eStarland video popping up in my feed. Its in such an odd place and doesn't even seem like a video game store when you stop there but they have a ton of cool stuff and I highly recommend stopping by. Cool video.
I live 30 minutes from this store and absolutely love it! I gladly give me money to Chris's initiative instead of the scouters of the web. We need more local hot spots like this. Great video man!
The crossover I’ve never expected to happen, as someone that happens to live in northern Virginia I’m happy you visited estarland bc I go there all the time to buy me some old classics to play through. As someone that likes games both old and new, I’d definitely recommend estarland to anyone.
I grew up going to the old location and that store really cemented my love for classic gaming. Whenever I visit my hometown I always have to give a visit.
can’t believe you were at my local retro game store!!
That pricing system means you'll never find a hidden gem at a crazy low price. It does also mean they won't have weirdly high prices for games either which happens occasionally at smaller mom and pop places. And because of the size they don't need to discount games to make room for new ones. So while it's size is impressive I'd much rather shop at smaller game stores instead, you find great deals at those.
Hi Dear
Hi Dear
Hey phoenix ! Thanks for bring back memories, I remember the store when it was in Centreville VA back in 2001, I was a frequent customer because they have always had a great customer service... And fair prices and trade in too.
I’ll be honest…. Whoever curated and essentially created this store… is a GENIUS! With the store model, setup, and algorithm they have… I mean this….THIS is a GameStop competitor, if not JUGGERNAUT, and possible ADAPTIVE PARTNER they(GameStop) needs in order to
Move into the next phase of the gaming spectrum… I mean… EASILY GameStop could offer them a $100m for the algorithm, setup, etc, and STILL(NOT ONLY survive…) but THRIVE for generations to come!! The BIGGEST problem has been adapting to market fluctuations, having a “living environment the consumer not only participates in…BUT ENGAGES IN AND ENJOYS! This is a model that could be spread NOT ONLY “across the country” but if you’ve ever been to any stores around the world, CERTIFIED overseas! I mean… this man is on a literal GOLD MINE of opportunity!!! I haven’t seen ANYTHING similar in my 30+ yrs of gaming…. If he had a “repair” station/area I mean.. honestly it’s game over for the competition…
I “fan boating” like you wouldn’t BELIEVE over this from my “engineering/entrepreneurial” mind set that this is BY FAR the most AMAZING gaming store experience I’ve ever seen..
also, FYI Phoenix Resale, I personally THANK YOU.. for your sheer PASSION and enthusiasm toward gaming… people like YOU will keep gaming living for generations to come, and I’ll tell
“Tales” and show videos of you
To my sons(lol, who already subscribe) for years to come!
Keep up the AMAZING work!
Super glad to see more central Kentucky content creators doing well on TH-cam! Editing format is superb and you’ve got a great voice for narration as well.
I will forever preach the gospel of eStarland. They're a local business to me and I've been a regular customer of theirs for over 20 years now, from when they operated out of a tiny hole-in-the-wall space to the massive warehouse they are now. They've even managed to track down some pretty rare gems that I had been looking for, including a complete-in-box NES edition GBA SP.
This place absolutely deserves all of your business. They're fantastic.
Aye that’s one of the game stores in my area. It’s in the dmv area glad you got to experience this store.
7:32 Rebecca is one of the nicest people my wife and I came in contact with, on the way to estarland we ran over an axel from a car accident that just happened, and it fucked up the dirt guard over the wheels was torn and was rubbing against the tires and she helped us, and came out to our car and looked at what was going on and gave us a bunch of packing tape as a temporary fix before we drove back to Maryland. SUPER kind love her so much 💜💜💜 also fire ass store
Rebecca is the GOAT!! 💜
“That man child is creepy”😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
this is one of my favorite go to stores for games new, preorder, old, used whatever and even trading in games. Have never been disappointed once
This is my home video game store!! Ive loved them for YEARS. I have done so much business with them over the years
Support your local stores I appreciate it helps build the community
This video screams paid promotion
A great video and great message. Everybody is not only different but you have to keep pushing forward if something doesn't work or needs to change then that's what you need to do.
I love estarland. I literally drive 2 hours once or twice a year to visit. It was cool to watch the store get some screen time!
As someone who is in the process of starting out their own small retro game store, that last part of the video was very inspiring 😎💙
You aren't going to make it
It wasn’t inspiring it was rude and obnoxious, tho I wish you luck in your endeavour because competition is fierce , hope it works out for you ❤️
@@LyTtLeHandsThats fair, I can see both sides of the coin. It just appealed to me more since i can relate to some aspects of the story.
Either way, thank you, really appreciate it and wish you the best 🙂💙
That Psygnosis shirt from Colin(?) is so cool.
Lets be intellectually honest with the ‘whats your excuse’ ending, the korean man got in early in 91’ way before video games went mainstream, that’s like saying ‘man bought Bitcoin with $100 in 2011 and now a millionaire whats your excuse’ times have changed its not comparable to start a game store now than it was when videogames were pennies on the dollar to buy then hold those assets to sell in a storefront later
3:34 That Man Child Is Creepy 😂
Nice to have you visit, you’re a cool guy in person man
Resale Sundays always hit‼️💯💪
Warrenton VA here (about 45 minutes away from chantilly) but i discovered this place a few years back and since i did, i dont care if it is almost an hour away, i dont ever go anywhere else for my video game needs, this place and the people working there are awesome!! 10/10 would recommend
This video is an absolute gem, I am so glad that I got this recommended!
Awesome to see you on the east coast and in stores Ive been too!
Northern VA resident. Been going there for years, even back when it was at a WAY smaller location. Definitely my favorite game store and the only place I’ll probably buy physical media again.
Physical games > digital every day of the week! ❤
I absolutely love it. My dad was exactly like the video game store owner.
I have been non stop binging the heck out of all your videos caleb..... Im new and love all your content.Keep it up man!!
You and the retro gang inspired me to open a retro game store and it's actually happening the 10th in Los Lunas New Mexico I'm pretty excited
I love your videos. You helped me start collecting stuff like amiibos and I just love seeing what some Wacky stuff go's for. Keep up with the great content
Very cool video and cool store. Would love to go there and see it in person one day. Also love the message at the end of it!
One of the better Videos of Phx Resale love the ending!
Wasn’t expecting that. The reception desk area looked like an office at my old job minus reception desk. It actually stopped before the video game doorway. My dreams are real, man.
Estarland is a store that’s at least an hour away from where I lived in Virginia, but totally worth the drive. I was looking for video game stores in and around where I lived in and came across the address of this store on a whim. I didn’t what to expect when I arrived there initially but when I walked through those doors my mind was blown by how much video game paraphernalia was there. If I make the trip to Virginia again I’ll definitely revisit this wonderful place.
These guys repaired my Atari Jaguar Cd system earlier this year! Great work, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
It’s cool seeing you cover estarland I like that place a lot even though it’s a little far
That’s awesome I go to Estarland all time. Great atmosphere.
Oh shit! Eaststarland is in Chantilly Virginia! I live in the next city lol. Definitely going to check them out.
I would spend forever in there 😂
I live in Washington DC, went out to Estar a week ago and I'm sure I'll be a Longterm customer! Great place, amazing stock, I felt as though they truly have the end user experience in mind.
I WAS HERE a few days ago to get my phone screen fixed!!!! Super cool you were near me. Hope you had fun, would’ve loved to have met you!
I see them wanting to make as much money as possible but like at a yard sale if it's not priced I hate asking let alone having to take a bunch of games to a computer to check the prices. Maybe a app with your phone so your not wasting time or thiers by leaving games for them to restock.
Love the hell out of that store. Been using them for around 10 years
this mf'er asked 'what's your excuse?' than doesn't even show us what game he got
Yea what the heck I was thinking the same thing! Did they cut this early?
@@NoEscapeGaming They kicked him out when they realized he was going to resell what he was going to buy. Hey!! That's our job!!
Their pricing structure is genius! That’s so cool! Definitely will check them out for future trade ins.
I guess they figure if you want it, you want it at any price haha. I don't like that either.
Nate didnt know u watch phonex resale too
@@DOAHITMAN just discovered him yesterday
I live about 15 minutes from eStarland!! I love going there, even if I’m just browsing. It’s a nostalgic overload! 😃😥
Dude that's my local store! that's awesome you got to check it out.
I bought my turbo graphx 16 from estatland when it was in Springfield VA.
Very nice video. Thanks for posting this.
I like the way you can scan your game ❤
Man, I've been wanting to get deeper into the reselling business and hopefully open my own store some day and that ending question hit me hard...gotta get my ish together.
You got this!! 🙏
Retro Rick has his own store in Arkansas.
@@mariokart8715 he sure does, hope I can visit some day
Excited to go to a store like this in the US in Canada I have very small recycle video game stores 😮 so this will be heaven
I had no clue this place existed and it's only an hour and a half away from me...... Bless you!
i used to work in the shopping center literally right next to this in chantilly lol i used to deliver there all the time but i never actually shopped there. insane to see you making a video in there haha 😂
We used to have plenty of fairly decent sized used video game stores like this in Canada, and sadly, a lot of them shut down, even one in my town looked almost this big. But the tech they used wasn't anything like this, which is a good idea and probably why this store is still thriving along with online services.
I do want to do my own store like this as well, as much work as it might be and as competitive as it will be today compared to 20-30 years ago. It's a risk sometimes people have to take to try it but also work it in a way to today's technology and trends. Like incorporating online/internet since so many will just buy/stream/rent their games online with digital games.
Great Video. eStarland is a great video game/anime spot. Staff are friendly. The owner is a great person, his original store in Annandale VA was the MECCA of gaming in the East Coast of the United States. Great memories and great friendships were formed there. Their prices are good and the best trade in value you'll find. For the folks complaining about "bargains", you'll have to go to a garage sale to find what your looking for.
Awesome Store Tons Of Inventory
enjoyed the music at the end. good stuff.
That ps2 no one lives forever game you traded in is freaking awesome. Remember that from back in the day
wow that ending a bit of a FOXTROT UNIFORM
Oh cool, you're in my neck of the woods. Did you go to other video game stores in the DMV? How'd you like our insane traffic? lol. They've been around for at least 30 years, it was a much smaller store back then. Excellent video Caleb!
My excuse is I take 3-4 poops a day it’s a hassle and takes up large percentages of my days, but I will open up a game store one day
Ever heard of TMI? 🤣😂
@@ryanorionwotanson4568 no just TMP (Too Much Poop) 😔
Good to know that this store is special. I live close enough to be a day trip to it.
That moment when you’re from the DC area and learned about EStarland via TH-cam. Great video mate.
I remember when their showroom was no bigger than the size of a classroom in Fairfax, Virginia. Still the best local video game store I've ever been to.
Recently discovered them right before everyone started talking about them Recently. Found prices to be good and trade in value better than expected. Highly recommend.
rage on ps3 was an amazing game ...so much fun crafting weaponry and whatnot
Excellent store I went to EStarland ib Maryland to buy SNES games from trading them and rent anime movies! I'n glad to see Estarland still in business after all these years! I love video games!
I used to go here a ton when I lived in DC! Great place
Collin's Psygnosis t-shirt was the highlight.
I go to this store alot, I bought a couple of game and controllers, I enjoyed this store
Nice. Bought a lot of used games from this store from Brazil years ago
There are so many old and new video games
I’ve been there! Good customer service and GREAT selection of games.
oh i do want to say that they did an amazing job repairing my virtual boy and and i like how they did the pricing based of of loss, cib and no manuals :)
great management there
Times were different 30 years ago
Underrated video, great job all around
Its was cool when i went there... but I didn't get the feel of a game store since most of my time was having to sit down and look through a computer of their inventory.... Its so much more personal and fun when you can can just go up to the areas instead to check what they have... but they can let you behind the counters or stuff and its hard to see what the games are when there like 10 or 12 feet away... i don't have the best sight. part of the joy of collecting or game shopping is the hunting :)
Great ending to a great video
I love all ur videos and editor riff is goat 😂
OH. I remember eStarland. It's been a long time since I've been there, but they at one point had a bunch of old walkthrough guides from Brady Games and Prima. Looks like that section no longer exists.
