    That method is really interesting in terms of rows and column naming! I struggled on 6 onwards to pull out the range specified by the instructions, first time I have had to do that so couldn't get it in the time limit. Took me around an hour to finish everything. Each month my custom lambdas seem to grow so a few to be added after this one I think.
    You seem to be getting more efficient with the single cell stuff each month. I think it's starting to be clearly faster than the data tabling approach. Really impressive how you did that question 7.

      It’s interesting you say that, I don’t think I’ve added to my custom lambda set since I first made it before Vegas last year (although I am planning another round of development before this year’s final). I think I need to practice with the same set for a while before I get comfortable.
      I think I’m getting faster with single-cell, but not getting better at knowing when to use it or not… sometimes it is just a lot easier to lay things out in detail, but I never see that until I’m too far in to go back…

    Amazing as always, D. Yes the explanation of the crazier techniques is very much appreciated.
    I am trying to replicate your lambdify formula too. I see tremendous potential with it. What a great idea for debugging.

      I'm afraid I can't - selling the cases to people who didn't take part is one of the ways they fund the competition this comes from, so it's not mine to give away. But you can buy it here if you want:

      @@DimEarly Just wondering, can you use your own macros in the battles ? If yes, even though it is very quick with you, I would write a simple macro to fill down a formula for a solution in the cells below. The moment they all turn green. For instance a simple combination with Ctrl and it looks to the cells on the left to know how many rows to filldown. Just my 2 cents 😃 Optionally send to the clipboard the string that needs to be pasted elsewhere as the solution.

      @DimEarly  19 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@wimgielis8802 Yes, you can use prepared macros, LAMBDAs, or pretty much anything else you want! I know at least one person who changed his Ctrl+D (fill down) to work in a way he found more sensible, including filling down answers like this.

    Great Video as always. I struggle with the easy things more than I should and I didnt round every Level. but good thing is, the harder questions where easier then level 5 for me, even when i had no time for Level 7. I need to get my shit together with conversions and with proper reading. As I am a Bo Follower, I was able to follow your level 7 and all the approaches. You really did great and had a lot of great ideas. Its impressive that you think about great solutions under the pressure. The explaining part is great, as more video from you is a positive in general! one thing to level 7, I think this is the only thing you made rather complicated in my opinion. As the map is quite small you can just calculate the distance for each cell:
    =LET(
    City,IF(((SEQUENCE(50)-TEXTBEFORE(G260,","))^2+(SEQUENCE(,50)-TEXTAFTER(G260,","))^2)

    • @DimEarly
      @DimEarly  20 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks Jean! And I completely agree, my L7 approach was definitely more complicated than it needed to be.
      I hadn't thought of using the whole map (although that's not a bad idea at this size), but I already had the list of cities pulled out, so could have relatively easily filtered cities by distance from the given coordinates.
      My general approach is to run with the first reasonable idea that comes into my head... it often means a sub-optimal method (like this one), but on balance I think it still saves me time vs stopping to think through things more carefully.

      @@DimEarly the most important thing is that you have an idea and that you know how to implement it. after the battle one can think about different approaches. I will keep learning from you and maybe I will also be able to directly implement my ideas, no matter how complicated I might think haha

    You made a mistake at 9:00 but it didn't cost you. A city with an average Household Income of exactly $100,000 wouldn't have been recognized as a six-figure city in your formula! 😅
