    Does this apply to the PSAT as well?

      It's a little different because PSAT scores range from 320-1520, but the same basic idea applies

    A student got 1590 on the SAT and a 3.97 unweighted, 4.42 GPA weighted...
    Still got rejected to 14 of the 18 colleges he applied to...

      Yep, that certainly happens. Colleges aren't simply looking for the smartest students. They want students who will contribute actively to the community, who will take advantage of existing opportunities and create new ones. So make sure to show that in your application!
