That's interesting because watching similar content i always got the impression that it's all about showing the highlights and positive energy and less vulnerability. But you're right that video went viral because of the relatability.
Girl, this video is almost at 1k views in only 6 hours, this channel has FAR from failed! As someone currently trying to build a following, I totally get what you're saying about feeling like some people just want to hear about the hardships. I think it's important to just keep going until you find your audience (the pop culture girlies hehe) and go from there. I'm rooting for you girlie!
Truth well spoken! I subbed to your channel, love your content and vibes...Hello to ALL Hope crew members here, keep posting =) Gotta love Dough Dash Inspirations, it will carry her places =)
Sis, I have been a silent viewer but I had to leave a message today to encourage you. You have nothing to apologize for, show yourself some grace, do what you feel comfortable and at peace doing on TH-cam, and what's yours will be. You have such a beautiful soul and a sharp mind, and I love seeing your authentic self. Keep being you, you have not failed. Love you!
its the new internet culture, toxticity and negativity is what in my opinion drives views. if you want to see any growth it seems like catering to the toxicity is the fast track route, the algorithm ignores you for almost everything else. good luck and hope you don't give up.
I think it's not just about being relatable but WHY you're relatable. For me as a Black dude, you not only come off as authentic, but you admit your journey. The ups and downs. And you're transparent on not wanting to BS your audience. You help me understand Black women better/more which is HUGE. Not as if you represent all Black women, but you are good at articulating things that other sistas may agree with or feel. I think for some folks, at least me, hearing about someone's sturggle and how their navigating it can be motivating and inspirational. It can give someone hope, even if you're still navigating it. Don't beat yourself up or critique yourself into oblivion. You telling your journey is why I subbed. I'm here to see you win. 🙏🙏
I think you went viral because that video felt authentic, as long as you never forget to keep doses of that authenticity in your videos, it doesn't matter the topic you discuss. People will watch. Don't be discouraged.
Yes , you said it all. That brought most of us to your channel so I think they wanted to know more about 30s journey. I think you should stick to what you like. The right people will find you
Honestly, you’ve only been doing this consistently for a year. For most semi big youtubers it has been a slow grind over years and years. The viral video might have given you unrealistic expectations
I was watching your videos after your video who went viral. I loved the fact that you felt relatable and inspiring. And your videos I liked the most was your story-times. I stopped watching because the titles wasn’t really catching my attention anymore. I still watch your video about your self though. I’m not really interested in watching you talk about politics or money. I just really liked your person and wanted to know more about your story and watch you evolve. So for my case you are kinda right. I mean the celebrity gossip are still interesting for me but there are so many youtubeur doing the same. I really hope you don’t give up. Sorry for my English. Not my first nor my second language.
TH-cam's search engine has changed...TRY, because I did check your past videos...TRY going live, as many evenings as you can, because that is going to bring in your watchtime hours, shorts will too...make your long videos no longer than 20 minutes, that way youtube can properly places ads in...Ads placement is most important...there are mountains and valleys of blessings in life, you got to climb the mountains to get to the valley...one step at a time...your channel is in rest mode....you know what to do to get it back...sounds like we went through alot of the same...I subscribed, so I can watch more...Are you keeping things apart with playlists? Linking new videos to your playlists...U got this!
It seems like most comments are stating that your initial video went viral because “misery loves company” and TH-cam viewers generally love seeing people fail. I don’t believe that is the case at all. People love relatability. When I, along with a lot of other people, discovered you through your viral video. It seemed that your content was going to take that direction, which is why I initially subscribed. The reason you went viral is because your experience was very relatable to me and to many others. It seemed that your content was going to take that direction, but when it didn’t, I’m sure most people just lost interest. Your content didn’t seem to have much of a theme afterwords, and I understand finding your niche, but people generally aren’t going to be patient. People like to anticipate what type of content they’re getting, and having a lot of videos on different types of things after achieving virality isn’t the best move strategically if growing on TH-cam is your goal. Your recent videos have also been commentary, and commentary on TH-cam is very oversaturated at this point.
Going viral is a gift and a curse because you have to continue to feed the beast and if that's not your passion then its tougher. I think you are doing an excellent job, the people will find you and you'll continue to grow..
I wish you all the best I been watching you here and there but I rarely see your videos on my home page and I don’t get notifications even my notifications is on. I started a natural hair channel 8 months ago I am looking forward to this journey on youtube.
Very relatable! Just keep showing up as you and stay true to your values. Your audience will find you at the right timing. Always remain in a state of gratitude and authenticity. Girl even though your money seems low from TH-cam, at least it is consistent!!!!! Those blessings are bigger than you think! Luke 48: From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and to whom they entrusted much, of him they will ask all the more.
I think the lull in posting had a big effect. There was a point where you were posting maybe once a month or so which probably isn’t good for the algorithm. And like others said not banking on negativity isn’t what the algorithm likes which is messed up. From a Black guy fighting to break into the publishing world you still got this though! Just got to keep working at it a bit every day.
Thanks for sharing this video! As a smaller TH-camr myself, it's really valuable to hear your experience. A viral video can be a double-edged sword. While mine wasn't a million views, 150k on my French channel is still huge for me. Interestingly, it wasn't about travel, my main topic, but it showed me what my audience craved. Luckily, it aligned with my interests too. It's still early days, but listening to your stories is incredibly inspiring. Thank you!
Not having to talk about hardships is a good thing. Talking about things you really like to talk about is better in the long run. That's so true that people do pivot all the time on youtube. I think its the algorithm and YT is doing it make sure different users rise up quickly, but not enough to sustain high viewership for long. I've been noticing more users gaining virality because their video was on a lot of people feeds.
don't give up darling ! you are my current fav youtuber , i love your life thoughts and opnions we can do this !! cheer up !! ps : you can do anything , you failed nothing at all !!
I subscribed when you posted your viral video cuz I related to you and I wanted to see your growth and climbing the mountain out of that situation. Thats why I watch your life updates etc. don't care much about gossip but sometimes Id put it in the background. I hope you'll succeed.
I really enjoy your authenticity and down to earth style. Maybe I'm not that interested in celebrities gossip but watching you is refreshing! ❤ The bit in this video about TH-cam trends and viewer preferences was super interesting, especially the point about negativity and how people react to different narratives. It made me reflect on how these trends mirror our unconscious behaviors. I'd love to see more videos exploring this perspective - the viewer's side of TH-cam trends. And please please don't feel pressured to chase viral trends or focus solely on income. 🙏 Stay true to yourself and create the content that feels right to you. Your value goes beyond views and subscribers. Keep creating! You've got this.
This is my first time here! You have to do YOU! If you want to enjoy yourself, make what you want to make, post what you want to post. Have fun with it. Your true audience will find you. Good luck and enjoy. 👍🥳
Keep posting what you like and makes you happy. I still see lots of celebrity videos, although most are trashing. Maybe do recaps for popular reality shows if you like those. Those aren’t necessarily negative, but encourages conversation and you can share your thoughts/opinions.
I really liked your celebrity gossip videos. I liked that you talked about why the issues are topical today. I've heard of another TH-camr saying they just tried different videos until they found their niche, or what went more viral
Yes, this is sooo true. I love vlogs but as a hispanic woman it doesn’t get views i’m just thinking of getting another channel for hispanic viewers and hoping maybe it’ll stick, who knows. People like to see others struggle it’s unfortunate but is true not all african american and hispanic women are struggling🤷🏻♀️ I think you are doing good and hope you find your success with something that you actually love.
Oh hey, I remember you. Haven't gotten any notifications of yours in a minute. I think maybe the issue would be really connecting with the audience in a way that keeps us coming back
Also started following after your viral video. I personally enjoy your videos where you more personal about your life because I learn from that. But fully understand why you had to stop all of that. I still follow your page because I genuinely like your auro and vibe. You will eventually find your niche it’s all about the journey. Props for you for being so self aware . Love from 🇿🇦
1 17...... Sometime the expectations one has for themselves can be as high or higher than expectations from others. I know I say this a lot, but what is failure and what is success? Who sets the standards for both and how do we truly set them for ourselves?
I think it's important to think about what success means to you personally aside from things that are ultimately out of your control, like views, etc. This is something I've struggled with, but you've actually been posting and experimenting with your videos. You probably have a better understanding of where you want your channel to go now than you did before. Don't stop what you're doing! Keep it up 🎉
Idk I only watched the vid because I felt like it spoke to me I mostly just use yt for informative videos about maybe crypto scams or cyber attacks and video games
There are lots of black women on this platform in different niches other than what you mentioned who do well. The niches may not be popular, but they attract an audience. We may not go viral, but there is always steady growth; maybe not fast, viral growth, but growth and views nonetheless. There is an art to making a vlog that gets views. Always stay authentic and relatable. Your audience will discover you; keep going. All the best to you!
Honestly the fact that you have a youtube to complain or celebrate about is a major accomplishment. I've been telling myself for almost a year to make one and talk about fragrances because its been a recent hobby and here i am still posting and viewing anonymously. unsolicited advice: Maybe you need to reach out to brands to support your channel and maybe an audit from someone into marketing could give you insight into your SEO and help with a strategy.
You have not failed - you just need a better caliber of followers. Quality over quantity. People followed for the spectacle and then tapered off as soon as your tried to pivot into things you want to actually talk about. People love seeing black trauma p*rn - especially from dark skinned black women. We've been oversold this idea that if you lead with 'authenticity' that it will lead to loyal audiences but in reality people just gather around with a bowl of popcorn and watch you deprecate yourself as a form of entertainment. As soon as you want to pivot and talk about something lighthearted or empowering- your audience turns on you.
I'm here to support you whenever you post. I love seeing a fellow Black woman talk about different topics while being vulnerable at times. I must admit I'm always looking for your posts as it is very inconsistent. I found your channel through your viral video at a time when I was looking for more Black creators. I praise you for not wanting to produce "woe is me Black female" content as you stated. I love your sit down talk content and love entertainment news. Have you thought about merging hot topics, movie reviews and etc with life commentary in it. For example, I loved the interracial dating live you did. I also love reality tv like 90 Day Fiance & entertainment news. Have you thought about doing more specific series reviews with blending your real life commentary without getting to personal if you don't want to? I think this is your "niche" as it blends what went viral on your channel with the entertainment news you love. Jessie Woo does a great job of what I'm talking about. However, she has been getting some push back on speaking to much about her current relationship in her content lately which I agree is a fine line. Nonetheless, Jessie has done a great job of talking personal, minority advocacy, music, movies, entertainment news, makeup, and travel with comedic timing to grow her channel. I'm proud of you girlfriend so don't give up, find your way and just keep posting❤
Akouto, I'd really love to see Day in the Life, vlogs at the coffee shop, etc. these video styles often portray the editing techniques that you said you would really like to work on as an editor, and these types of videos are really popular right now. Best of luck!
I’ve been watching you here and there ever since your viral video, so I haven’t been a huge follower so far. I’m saying this because, contrary to what many of your actual subscribers may say (whose opinions are still super valid; they’re your loyal viewers at the end of the day), as an outsider I think you should create the type of content you enjoy. If you’re at a point where this is still not your livelihood and it’s rather a side hustle/hobby, at least make sure it’s something you thoroughly enjoy. That way you can continue to show up consistently and happily create without the burden of if it’ll actually perform well or not (esp. at such an early stage of your YT career). Plus, though the majority might leave, you’ll begin to find a new crowd who’ll watch you for what you have to offer. Do your diligent research on your niche (celebrity gossip) and create what you want to create. What moved people (and what continues to move them) from your viral video wasn’t the content per se, but authenticity! Some will stay, some will go, but your people will find you if you stay true to what you feel.
Keep going, most TH-camrs have a niche and most of their videos are about that niche, you just need to find yours. I post coding tutorials for women learning to code and have barely any views, but the main thing is I enjoy doing it!
During the pandemic I basically had money to burn. It was awesome, I used the extra money to build my credit score which paid off in 2023. Now I'm completely broke, I'm unemployed and struggling to find work. I just want to say, when you get a miracle and some money you need to prepare for another wave of misfortune.
I'm not one who pays that much attention to celebrity news, celebrity awards, celebrity this or that. At least not beyond their health, or whether they retired from a show I used to watch, or something like that. I'm here for you. But, keep up with what you want. Good luck with it. I hope for your success. I will be here in support. Plus it's nice talking with you. But then, maybe one thing that might work is if you combine celebrity news with every day scenarios. Like, if you talk about how one celebrity raised money for food banks. Or if you tell a story of how you got another celebrity's autograph. Or if you have the inside scoop of incidents like Will Smith versus Chris Rock. That idea. Combining daily life with celebrity topics. Hopefully that gets your viewership going. Just figure a way to be clever about it. Meaning, giving a take on it that most people might not give, or think to give. Hopefully that helps.
9 27....... Just for your information, the Y T algo pushes finance videos the hardest, a close second is political videos, then third is either fashion or something else, that's why those types of videos do sooo well. Unfortunately, the game is rigged against other creators, unless the videos end up being very niche content, like Ordinary Sausage, for example. EDIT: Also, finance videos get paid premium ad revenue, with a staggered decline for other placed content.
You’re might have to accept that nobody’s journey is linear. Every one goes through bumpy times, therefore you should embrace them and have more patience and grace for yourself ❤
Hey, it's been a while! Honestly I was drown to your viral video, first, because it was relatable and, second, because you used a strong word in your title/thumbnail (loser?) and I was like "that's me right there 🧐" lol. I think that the same thing happened to a lot of people I remember you saying that you wouldn't talk about your personal life anymore, and I applaud your for taking that decision. But I'm personally not really into pop culture and I think that you don't do lives anymore (I loooooved them). I still click on your videos to leave a like, and sometimes I do let them run depending on the subject, but they're not my cup of tea just because I don't really care about celebrities On a side note, I loved that interview video that you did. Although I can see that it wouldn't necessarily attract a huge audience. I really wish you the best and hopefully you'll find a path that you love 🤲🏼 Now back to the video
Going viral can potentially be disastrous for your channel, especially if the video does not align with what you enjoy doing or your niche. If you want to speak about celebrity gossip and pop culture, I’ll say create a separate channel for it . I can bet from your viral video that your demographic will mostly be people in their 30s and millennials. I am one of such people and I don’t know about other 30+ year olds ,but I really couldn’t care less about celebrities and all of that , I have outgrown that and many in my age group probably have , so that might be a hard sell for this channel. Actually, most people these days don’t care much about celebrities. Not as much as they did in the early 2000s and 2010s. Celebrity culture and fascination is a thing of the past. I would not personally advise you explore that niche at all. So what then do you do? I followed you because of your lived experience as a 30+ year old. I found it super relatable and vulnerable . That in itself is a gold mine and a niche on its own. Navigating life as 30+ child free single woman seems far more interesting to me than what Brad Pitt had for breakfast. Lastly , as a fellow TH-camr, TH-cam is about making content for the viewers and your audiences. It’s more of what they want to watch and less of what you want to talk about. Remember TH-cam is a business, not a passion project. Give your consumers ( your viewers) what they want, not what you feel is good for them or for you.
I don't think it's about struggling. You went vial for your honesty. Although I am subscribed I am not interested in entertainment unless there is a different opinon. People want a connection especially for a solo youtuber.
Your channel is similar to Steph co. She made a video about not having pretty privilege and gained her audience that way. But she also talks about celeb gossip and does well. Make sure to mix it up if you want the views. Just a thought 🙏🏽
I’ve observed other TH-camrs with the same misery-type videos getting sad stories from the audience/internet to keep up. Because you can only have so much misery but looking to the whole world gives you a bottomless pit 😅. You could drop a few misery vids for your audience in between what you are passionate about
Even though I am not much interested in celebrities, but I really liked your video about Sabrina Carpenter :) It feels that you’re doing your thing and I feel that you’re very talented! Please keep up with videos that YOU like, I know you will get there!!!
I found your content from your viral video but stayed because I like your job hunt content. When you were auditioning for acting gigs. But at some point you stopped popping up on my fees. Do you think you youtube may have suppressed your content?
Just follow your passion and money will follow. I am black and I honestly don't think it's a race issue. If your content does not appeal to people then it simply doesn't and you should find ways to improve it. Maybe draw inspiration from other successful black TH-camrs because trust me there are plenty.
Akouto, I don't want to come off as rude, but please don't ever think you will make a full time job making videos about celebrity gossip. Just have youtube as a hobby, as a side job to make some income for the time being, don't ever plan off your career from this platform. Only a very few, very talented and lucky people can live off youtube for a while. Envision what you would realistically want to work on in the future, something that you can get into now, and work towards that. It won't be the job of your dreams, but it will give you a realistic job that you enjoy enough to give you stability
Maybe you have to talk about what is going viral on the internet like Jake Paul and Mike Tyson or about make an opinion about Bryan Johnson. Make an script with chat gpt. These are just example.
Try reaction... You must put in the work to earn... |I don't want this, I don't want that", may be *open a new channel* and make "this and that" (like it is a job). 11:34
Misery likes company. Most people are going through stuff , and when you discuss your failures , it makes the struggles relatable.
Yes, yes, yes. I don't think anyone wants to see Akouto (or anyone else) struggle, but we do find confort in knowing that we're not alone
That's interesting because watching similar content i always got the impression that it's all about showing the highlights and positive energy and less vulnerability. But you're right that video went viral because of the relatability.

Dont be surprised if this topic goes viral because it has the word " failure" in it.
I prefer watching you talk about your life experiences. I know you love pop culture, but people are slowly moving away from praising celebrities.
i agree with this
Yes! I loved her stories about life.
*messasge
Yeah me too honestly
its the new internet culture, toxticity and negativity is what in my opinion drives views. if you want to see any growth it seems like catering to the toxicity is the fast track route, the algorithm ignores you for almost everything else. good luck and hope you don't give up.

Keep it up 🎉
Your passionate about talking about the world and the world is passionate on hearing about you ❤ keep going
2025 going to be your year🤞🏽you just need to upload more
Maybe you should talk about entertainment and tie it into social issues, kind of like Shallon Lester.
Always happy to see you Akouto❤
God will always give you what u need😊
Akouto, I'd really love to see Day in the Life, vlogs at the coffee shop, etc. these video styles often portray the editing techniques that you said you would really like to work on as an editor, and these types of videos are really popular right now. Best of luck!
Agreed! I watched her (attempted) live editing video and thought those styles of videos are valuable.
I don't care about celebrity culture. But I love hearing you talk. So I will continue to watch your videos.
No your not just a barista your a beautiful barista😉😉
During the pandemic I basically had money to burn. It was awesome, I used the extra money to build my credit score which paid off in 2023.
Now I'm completely broke, I'm unemployed and struggling to find work. I just want to say, when you get a miracle and some money you need to prepare for another wave of misfortune.
You didn’t fail beautiful lady
😉😉
You’re doing great…❤
It’s only been a year! You’re doing great :)
I don’t know about the world but I care about you
thank you for this 🤞🏾
Huh I subscribed recently because you are a black woman talking about films and I need that in my life as a black woman in nerdy things.
It's because people like horror stories.
I’m your number one TH-cam subscriber I’m on your side honey trust me 😃😃
Keep going there will always be ups and downs
Hey sis you look so pretty glad to see you back ❤
You’re might have to accept that nobody’s journey is linear. Every one goes through bumpy times, therefore you should embrace them and have more patience and grace for yourself ❤
I've just subscribed to your channel. May God bless you.
How about interviewing friends and people you find interesting?
Hey, it's been a while! Honestly I was drown to your viral video, first, because it was relatable and, second, because you used a strong word in your title/thumbnail (loser?) and I was like "that's me right there 🧐" lol. I think that the same thing happened to a lot of people
I remember you saying that you wouldn't talk about your personal life anymore, and I applaud your for taking that decision. But I'm personally not really into pop culture and I think that you don't do lives anymore (I loooooved them). I still click on your videos to leave a like, and sometimes I do let them run depending on the subject, but they're not my cup of tea just because I don't really care about celebrities
On a side note, I loved that interview video that you did. Although I can see that it wouldn't necessarily attract a huge audience.
I really wish you the best and hopefully you'll find a path that you love 🤲🏼
Now back to the video
Give your consumers ( your viewers) what they want, not what you feel is good for them or for you.
keep going💕
I don't think it's about struggling. You went vial for your honesty. Although I am subscribed I am not interested in entertainment unless there is a different opinon. People want a connection especially for a solo youtuber.
Your channel is similar to Steph co. She made a video about not having pretty privilege and gained her audience that way. But she also talks about celeb gossip and does well.
Make sure to mix it up if you want the views. Just a thought 🙏🏽
Also, you look amazing
I’ve observed other TH-camrs with the same misery-type videos getting sad stories from the audience/internet to keep up. Because you can only have so much misery but looking to the whole world gives you a bottomless pit 😅. You could drop a few misery vids for your audience in between what you are passionate about
You look like Ava from Abbott Elementary😊
Even though I am not much interested in celebrities, but I really liked your video about Sabrina Carpenter :) It feels that you’re doing your thing and I feel that you’re very talented! Please keep up with videos that YOU like, I know you will get there!!!
Just vlog what you do an then mix in a little entertainment stuff
I found your content from your viral video but stayed because I like your job hunt content. When you were auditioning for acting gigs. But at some point you stopped popping up on my fees. Do you think you youtube may have suppressed your content?
I put out a video asking for help. Unfortunately the video barely has any views. 😢😢😢
She has 3 million views total and 60k subs I have 5k subs 5 million views , she didn't do something right
Just follow your passion and money will follow. I am black and I honestly don't think it's a race issue. If your content does not appeal to people then it simply doesn't and you should find ways to improve it. Maybe draw inspiration from other successful black TH-camrs because trust me there are plenty.
This happens alot
First
Your TH-cam failed because you never reply me
Try reaction...
You must put in the work to earn... |I don't want this, I don't want that", may be *open a new channel* and make "this and that" (like it is a job). 11:34
I followed you after that viral video. I've been with you ever since❤ People like honesty🫶🏻
