  • Here is the first OO Gauge model train review video to come of 2025 and a great start with this all new Cavalex Models OO Gauge Class 60 Diesel Locomotive in the DB Cargo "Steel On Steel" livery as 60062, named as "Sonia". 60062 started off its days with British Rail in 1991 and was originally named as "Samuel Johnson" in the BR Petroleum livery and then Transrail.
In 1997, EWS took it over in that year which around 2002 it was painted into EWS colours but lost its nameplates in the process. In 2007, EWS was taken over by DB Schenker. In 2012, 60062 was one of the 20 lucky Class 60's to become a "Super 60" that DB Schenker/DB Cargo refurbished and 60062 in 2012 was then named "Stainless Pioneer" until it was repainted in 2022 into this "Steel On Steel" livery and renamed as "Sonia" (what's in this name then?). 60062 is still with DB Cargo at this time but it is currently one of the 5 Class 60's they have not sold on.
This all new and super awesome Cavalex models example is how 60062 still is in its present state and this model is loaded with many exclusive features and has cab lights that is a most welcome function and I believe that there are also engine room lights as well but I only have the DCC ready model so it could be just limited as a DCC only function.
The model has the C4 drive system that is the outer axles on each truck being driven whilst the central axle is not driven but is powered. Despite this, the model locomotive is more than capable of pulling long trains on most model railways and if pushed, it could pull about 60-65 wagons on tap.
I personally like to support indie companies like Cavalex Models, Accurascale, Scaletrains etc as they all do offer something nice in their ranges. In truth, this OO Gauge Class 60 from Cavalex Models even puts my O Gauge Class 60's to shame as despite these models being smaller, they boast more detail. I would love to see Cavalex Models do this model in N gauge in the future. It would be a winner I am sure.
I have plans to get more of these new Class 60's but it will be BR era ones because I mainly cover 1983 to 1997 BR era so I can enjoy the best of both but this one will be staying on as either a display model or one to visit friends layouts with in the future. I cannot find anything negative to say about this one and I count myself lucky to get my example with no issues. So thank you Cavalex Models, really appreciate this one.
    Overall Rating: 10/10.

Anytime mate. You are welcome to watch the video anytime you are free. I really love these new Class 60's from Cavalex Models and I am happy that I got this one and I got my review of it all done. This one will be in my specials fleet as its outside the BR era so it will likely be run on special occasions or taken to friends layouts where it can be a guest locomotive. Just like the 60100 from Accurascale will be when I get that one. None of these will have sound except the BR ones I want such as 60098 and maybe 60061 from Cavalex Models. 60092 from Accurascale will be sound fitted. All the best, Peter.

Nice one. If this one is anything to go by, you are going to love it. I want 60098 next and 60061. Might get 60010 but I need to keep disciplined and keep mainly within the BR era :). All the best, Peter.

@@BritishRail60062 You did a good, fair review from start to finish. I'm only DC but can appreciate the hard work that goes in to these model's regardless of the modes.
Was only a very young lad when the 60's were new. I enjoyed seeing them, but even more so now. So more the merrier even if they are in miniature! 🙂

@@mattski8787 Thanks mate. I also grew up with the Class 60's from my teens and remember seeing them from new in the very early 1990's. I have quite a few slides of them that I bought last year after losing my collection in 2015 in a flood. A few survived but I am happy to get most of them back. I really appreciate the feedback as well as the work Cavalex Models has put into these brand new models they have done. I can empathise with the option to choose a C4 driveline because Cav and Alex really want everyone to enjoy the experience of these fantastic models with no frustrating derailments.
I have plans to get 60098 next on my bucket list and also 60097 as well as I would like to buy the real one someday and make it into an AI controlled and hydrogen cell powered Class 60. Or failing that, I would have it as a nice display piece somewhere like the East Kent Railway where it can be loved and cherished. The Class 60 is as close as we can get to having a GE Dash 9 in UK loading gauge, especially that "chug" and turbo howl these make when powering up. I really hope that Cavalex Models will do these beauties in N scale later as these would blow the Farish model out of the water. Especially now we have nano technology.
      All the best
      Peter.

My comment has disappeared, Peter. i just dont get it ,im furious! There was nothing i wrote that should have my comment removed .As expected a fabulous review from you and get the feeling you liked 062 haha I look forward to a three way comparison of the 60's from you and cant wait for the Accurascale 60 to come just to see if there are any differences Really enjoyed this ,cheers Nick

Hi Nick. I have not removed it as I do allow all comments. I will check to see if its in the spam filter mate. The only restrictions I have had to put into place is any comments with links are held pending as to be manually checked and that was because I had a problem a while back with bots posting dodgy links to illicit sites and I had to do this to protect my audience. I am happy that you enjoyed the review mate and I love this model of 60062 hence its the mascot of this channel is some ways. I am getting 60100 and 60092 from Accurascale when they come out. I have a feeling they could be joining us in late February/March time. Fun times ahead. All the best, Peter.

Oh thanks for your explanation Peter I understand better now, yes oh really then a month or so maybe for the Accy 60's ek better get saving fast! I preordered 60055 DCRail, The gorgeous British steel short lived liveried 60033 and EWS liveriedJaguar 60065 the Toton shunter and was the sole remaining 60 operational in EWS colours so that was a must to have.

@@RedShedNick Ah 60065? I nearly forgot about that one. Lovely isn't it? I may have to add that one as well to the bucketlist because it might fall outside my range from 1983 to 1997 as most of the ones I want will be BR era so Transrail 60015, Coal 60092 and Metals 60031 from ACS are on my radar. The next ones I want from CXM is 60098 from Rails and 60097 in Transrail livery. I have my eye on EWS 60018 as well but not sure if 60018 got EWS livery in 1997 or if it was later but I will have to see mate.
