Natalie was very talented. Her eyes were very expressive.Another actress gone too soon.I was 11 in 1981. She definitely deserved recognition for her acting talents.Thank you for this video. ❤
Excellent profile once again, this time on Natalie Wood. Her early death was a tragedy, but she’ll always have a place in the annals of movie history. Thank you for a superb voyage through the life of an iconic star.
I've always had a huge fondness for Natalie Wood. I am blind to any criticism of her acting because I simply adore her in every role. She had a fantastic career. Her tragic death was a real shock and affected me at a young age.
Natalie deserved not one but two Special Lifetime Achievement Academy Awards, for: 1), first winner of the 'Worst Actress' Hasty Pudding Award to accept in person; and 2), her monolog to her mother in, Gypsy. As a child in the 1960's I first heard that speech from a TV in another room, and it still reached my head and heart hard. I can hear it now. Maybe Nat wasn't the Best Movie actress, but man could she create some scenes... 'Nobody laughs at me. Because I laugh first. At me! Me, from Seattle. Me, with no education. Me, with no talent, as you kept reminding me my whole life! Well, Mama look at me now! I'm a star! Look! Look how I live! Look at my friends! Look where I'm going! I'm not staying in burlesque. I'm moving. Maybe up, maybe down. But wherever it is, I'm enjoying it. I'm having the time of my life! Because for the first time, it is my life! And I love it! I love every second of it! And I'll be damned if you're gonna take it away from me! I am Gypsy Rose Lee. And I love her! And if you don't, you can just clear out, now!' th-cam.com/video/Nm_mtvr4RwA/w-d-xo.html
Its a shame that this was her last nomination - it was so topical its not surprising she didn't win for it, she deserved some "Butterfield 8" outta nowhere win and it never came. To say that its still relevant today would be an understatement - the abortionist scene is so minimalistic but horrifying precisely by just how much ISN'T shown - you barely even see what catches Natalie's eye that causes her to start screaming hysterically but whatever it was its just nightmarish. It also gave Steve McQueen the opportunity to give a really sincere and tender performance in contrast to his usual "macho" image. The way he gently hugs her and promises to protect her I think we've ALL wished to have had something like that in our lives at least one time or another. Even if ultimately she realized it wasn't meant to be - VERY underrated imho
Awesome movie. Neither actor was given the credit they deserved for this movie. Mcqueen and Wood so beautiful and passionate in this movie. Very believable and its touches your heart when he protects her from harm. Great movie! ❤❤❤❤
For me, Love With the Proper Stranger was her most convincing performance followed closely by Splendor ….a very underrated act Tess. She got better as she aged…it was all in her eyes. Unfortunately, She died way too soon in a way that she feared all her life. Drowning in the dark waters off Catalina Island. Was it an accident or murder? To quote Tennessee Williams: “ the truth is at the bottom of a bottomless pit”
She is superb in 'Splendor In the Grass.' I consider her performance equal to Vivien Leigh's in 'Streetcar Named Desire.' Both will live forever on immortal celluloid film.
Love With is so ahead of it's time and is one of my favourite films and of all time !! What on earth are they saying she can't act. Sounds like they're jealous, she was/is brilliant.
Thank You For Awesome Series (1963 Best Actress race )👍🏼 Researched Good👍🏼 Please Do This For All Actors Each of them Deserve their own video GOD Bless You
For her third and final Oscar nomination: Coulda, woulda, (Wooda), SHOULDA! Patricia Neal's screen time for her win was equal to a supporting actress category. A real shame Paramount pushed her to the lead category over their other which was Natalie.
I think, in terms of Natalie's performances, her stand-out one was in 'Splendor in the Grass', (1961). I thought she gave an achingly sincere and touching performance in that role. She was also very good in 'Inside Daisy Clover', (1965), a very under-rated movie that got very few Oscar nods as nominations, I believe on Ruth Gordon got a nomination from that movie as 'Best Supporting Actress', although she didn't win.
@@slc2466 It was tough on her...she'd just lost Tony...who had a beautiful voice that sang out her name on every street, every corner in every neighbourhood...how beautiful she was...Mariaaaaaaaaa
love those critics who see a beautiful face and right away make up their minds that there's no talent - makes you wonder who is being superficial here.
You video Chronology of Natalie was good, but the verbal analysis was WAY over the top.....created confusion and was contradictory......to the 'viewer/listener......

She could do no wrong, I always found her simply beautiful.
She was great in every movie.
Luminous Natalie. Thank you for this incisive video.

I adore Natalie
"If it looks like a duck and walks like a duck, it probably is a duck."
(In other words, she was murdered.)
She is superb in 'Splendor In the Grass.'

Natalie Wood was not perhaps the greatest of actors, but in the right roles she could be quite incandescent.

Buen trabajo Fritz.
Those doe-eyes get me all the time. She was a very good film actress in fact; very expressive (she knew how to use her face).

Maravillosa, tocada por la varita de Dios!
Please do 1961. I want to hear how you rank the performances in that year. Natalie W has a good case to be the best despite not winning the Oscar.
Poetically presented
Thanks so much! I'm so glad you enjoy it
Sublime in West Side Story.
Natalie in West Side Story was one of the performances that draw me into acting and old Hollywood
Natalie goes for it in the final scene, and is heartbreaking.

Her Greatest acting tool were her eyes.
Natalie divorced Wagner because she found him in a compromise position with a man and freaked her out, she never told to avoid destroying his career.
I had read the same thing, so long ago. Just think of who RJ surrounded himself with.
wow fritz you do know how to end a video ❤️😔

thank god she was w warren in real life
McQueen just vlooks like a Goof Ball.....made a Baby? I did?
Boy are you way off the mark.
Boy, it's great that you understand that acting is subjective and everyone sees performances differently
If you think so, you should be specific.
