I just want to mention that if you’re planning on racing your car, you’ll need to make some adjustments to the fuel line routing and regulator mounting. The nhra doesn’t want the regulator mounted on the firewall. They also don’t want the fuel lines going down the driveshaft tunnel, even though the new ones are ran in the factory location. This car is being built for the street, so I rather have the fuel lines tucked away from road debris and the regulator mounted away from the hot engine or front crumple zone of the car. Whats enforced on the track doesn’t always translate well to the street..
Correct, was going to site the same things. My fuel line is run up inside my frame. I was wondering if there was a difference between steel and braided line in this regard but doesn't seem so.
You can mount to the firewall if you use a bracket that attaches to the firewall and the regulator attaches to that etc… at least that’s what I have seen …. Nice job on the lines 👍🏻
Yessirr. My favorite is your fab work. And I can tell you enjoy doing it cause you have it to look factory 💪🏾 def for the firebird and camaro. Keep them coming💯

its funny we are literally doing the same projects at nearly the same time between my Camaro, trans am, and Tahoe lol. Deffinetly feel inspired to tackle the fuel system now on my TA.

Oh I was quick to comment but when I listen to it all I agree with you 100%. Noted anyone watching. If you go as far as doing a fuel system, buy aftermarket rails and do it right. Fuel pulse is a HP / Tuner killer. Just do it right the first time it's worth every penny. 👍 good video.
I love the Trans Am series so much. You're doing a lot of mods that I want to do to mine and it's very helpful. One day I hope you paint it grey with a gold bird on the hood.
Love your videos, and great information! Been restoring my 85 Camaro, and even learned how to weld to work on it, which turned out really well! Can't wait to get her back on the road, but am interested in the modification here for my 305. Some say don't bother doing it, as it does not make much difference for daily driving, others say, nah, do it anyway! Since costs have sky rocketed for parts, not sure I will change it out. But, at least I know what I am in for if I do! Cheers!
Cheers to that video. I'm so happy to have chosen a 1987 Camaro! There is more and more information here on TH-cam, and your channel is my main reference guide for my LS swap. My swap is a one-man job (me), and I am not a mechanic! So thumbs up for all the content you put here! Well done!
Great video on the fuel system build. It would be great if you could get videos on this build posted every few days. I’m about to start on my 85 Z-28 build soon as this is motivating.
The Corvette filter only works on swaps That have a 255 L per hour pump or smaller otherwise it damages the internal regulation mechanisms I found this out the hard way
Hey man you've got some catching up to do lol, last time you posted a video on this thing I was right about at the same stage as you in the LS swap on my 88 sport coupe. Now I'm like 2 weeks away from being able to fire it up for the first time. Happy to see the Trans Am again.
God damnit Matt you've come so far since the early days when you just got that camaro. Your vids are kick ass as usual. I hope you never stop pumpin these out! Great stuff!
I didn’t know but it actually does both. It lets air in when the fuel level drops. Then it also lets air out when too much pressure builds up, like when filling the tank.
Hello friend, I follow closely all the modifications of the Camaro, excellent project and I tell you that I have my project also clear at a different rate, I have a Pontiac Firebird Formula 1986 and I want to make that swap lq9 with 6l80e I wonder if you can help me with the links where did you get the box and motor adapters the pontiac came with v6 2.8 for that. Thank you very much for the help.
Great video. Question : I have a 86 camaro z28 with the quadrajet on it. I want to replace the 3/8 fuel hard line with 6 AN ptfe braided stainless. The inlet to the carb and mechanical fuel pump are 5/8. Can't seem to find the proper fittings to go from 6 AN line to fit the 5/8 female inlets. Any help would be great.
Jealous of the Kix "Blow my Fuse" shirt. lol Have you seen Sloppy Mechanics old Colorado build? He had like 3 450's just wired to flexible lines all looking like an octopus sitting in the tank. lol
Matt, I have been thinking of starting my own channel covering my garage projects. What editing software do you use, and do you have recommendations on recording/audio equipment? It would be awesome if you did a video on the behind the scenes stuff!
What are you using for a trans dipstick/tube? I have a 6L90e in my Gen4 road race Firebird. The lokar tube and dipstick I'm using is too short and is a nightmare to get to.
I’m not using one. A plug goes in the dip stick tube and you check the fluid by pulling the pan drain plug with the engine running. I believe thats how the cars are setup with this trans.
Do you recommend just a filter for the LS swaps? I’m running Gen 3 truck intake and rails with the regulator on the rail, so can I use the corvette filter as just a filter and plug off the return line on the filter?
Hey Matt, I thought the vent on the tank does the reverse of what you said in the video. The one on my 92 Camaro is stuck shut and is creating a lot of pressure in the tank. I plan on picking up a repop one from hawks, but I’m kinda interested in the vented gas cap now. Any chance you have a part number for one that works with our tanks?
Which way does air flow through the vent if you blow on it? Are you sure the pressure isn’t the tank sucking air in when you pop the cap? The only way vapor can get out on the stock setup is through the evap line. That could be restricted as well. Heres the part number for the gas cap: 22591476
The under car vent by the tank is for excess tank pressure to be released(opens at 6psi IIRC). If you use a gas cap from a 70's Camaro, it looks identical to our 80's sealed cap,, but is vented to allow air into the tank to keep it from creating a vacuum.
I didn’t realize this valve is also a vent in case the tank builds up excessive pressure. You won’t be able to blow through it, but compressed air should be able to test if it opens to release pressure. I’m planning on re-installing it somewhere on top of the tank being I deleted both the old vent line and evap.

The vent lets air out of the tank not in, that way incoming fuel gets space.
