    Yes! Pray for one. Twenty years ago I discovered the vitamix and looked into getting one. Finding out the price, I realized it was not going to happen in the "conventional way" - buying one outright. I simply said to the Lord, "I'd really like to have one of those..." and promptly forgot about it. Awhile later I was looking through my neighborhood Goodwill store and I saw a box! Could it be what was pictured on the outside? Yes! A vitamix! I plugged it in and it worked! Apparently the person pricing it thought it was just a clunky old blender, because it was $5.00! I used it for juicing and 2 years ago I purchased the dry carafe and have been grinding in it ever since...still going strong after 20 years. God DOES care, and He answers prayer!

      Amen and amen!!! Many times our prayers are answered in unexpected ways, but praise the Lord for his faithfulness!

    I have the mill attachment for my Kitchenaid that does work since I do small batches. It grinds very fine but it does get quite hot after a bit. If I find a good deal on strictly a grain mill, I will buy it.

    Vitamix sells a separate carafe for grain grinding….as it really scars/mars a regular carafe. You offered lots of great ideas. Nice channel. 🥰

      I have an older Vitamix and it comes with a dry container and a wet container. I have just used the dry container. Not sure if it’s the same thing with newer models. Thanks for the info!

    We started with the vitamix with the grain blade, it worked pretty good, after several months we ordered a Harvest Grain Mill, much better results and worth every penny

      Yes I agree! The Vitamix works if it’s what you have, but a dedicated grain mill is certainly worth every bit!

    Under your "where to buy grains & more" section, I got some Hard white from Khorasan Mills, made some excellent bread with it. Just my $ .02 I use the Vitamix, takes about a minute to grind 2 cups into flour, not real fine but it works pretty good. Am now considering the Wondermill Junior, after watching your vid I think I'll be getting the drill or motor pulley attachment as well.

    I tried using my Vitamix to grind wheat berries, but that did not do the job and I also didn't want to overheat it. I do have a manual grain mill and that works fine with a lot of effort.

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find that you have to do just 1 cup at a time when grinding in the vitamix. But the manual mill is probably better!

    Good Morning Felicia. I've got my biscuit recipe perfected. I used an extra quarter of a cup of buttermilk. My biscuits turned out good and light. Even 4 days later, I heated up a couple of biscuits out of the fridge and they tasted fresh... Thanks😘

    When you’re retired and on a fixed income, some of cannot afford a grain mill. I looked at the manual grain mills, but I do not have the strength.

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry to hear you're struggling with that. We sometimes do grain mill giveaways here. Are you wanting to make home-milled breads part of your daily diet?

      Yes ma’am, I bake my own bread now, but with store bought flour. But listening to you and Sue Becker, I realize the need for home milled flour for baking my bread and other baked goods. I still enjoy watching all your videos so that I might dream of having a grain mill in my future to improve my health. God bless.

      I’m ordering a 16$ coffee grinder to try it. I heard it can do the job. You may have to grind longer but it’s so much less if you only bake bread once or twice every few weeks.

    That's what I been doing just to buy my grains I have had my kitchen aid grain mill for awhile haven't used it yet I been watching you for awhile I'm ordering my first sack of grains Monday but one day I do want a different one my son bought it for me I would also like a hand grinder just incase we have no power God can do anything

    I would love it if someone posted in my town FB group looking to try out a grain mill. I will also suggest that for pressents you can also ask for gift a gift card to pleasant hill grain, or wherever you want to buy a mill. That makes it easier for multiple people to kick in and cover part/all of the cost. I got my first mill last year on craigslist. It was a hand crank family grain mill with the mill and oat flaker for $20. It was perfect for trying things out, and if it was all I could afford I'd still be using it. A few months later I got a used komo mio. IT wasn't nearly as good of a bargin, but I still saved a fair bit vs buying new.

    Hello Miss Falecia!
    I had a question for you. I would like to make freshly milled Zucchini bread, do you have any recipes for that? I have so much Zucchini from the garden.
    Or, better yet, how do I figure out conversions? Like if a recipe calls for 3 cups regular white flour, how much freshly milled would I use instead? Would I need to add more liquid or anything to compensate?
    Thank you so much!

    I almost got a Kitchenaid. I paid, they took my money and 3 weeks later, nothing shipped. The customer service was terrible. I finally canceled the order and got my money back. Now I'm lost. I wanted a mixer that had attachments so I could mill grain and mix dough. I am on a budget. I'm finding that unless you buy an expensive mill so all parts of grain is milled without losing nutrition is expensive. Then dough mixers. Not all are good and those that are like Bosch are expensive. So its coming to like $700 bucks or more just to make bread . So i haven't done anything. I wanted a hand mill but after seeing you struggle with one, I'm not going that route either. So frustrating. ❤️

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would definitely focus on getting a good grain mill! You can knead by hand. Mixers are nice to have but not a “necessity.”
      Do know Nutrimill has a sale right now on one of the Nutrimill classic! You can check it out here: bit.ly/3Y0IHkC

    Hi, this is off topic, but can you point me to any info you have on salt?

    • @GrainsandGrit
      @GrainsandGrit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I haven’t done a video specifically on salt. But I love using Redmonds salt because it’s pure salt right here in the US (so cheaper for us than buying good salt from overseas). You can go to bit.ly/3yRwsfY and use code “grainsandgrit” for 10% off.
      Jill Winger with the Prairie Homestead did a podcast about using real salt too that is a great listen!

    I have friends with mills, but how can I store it if I do this to keep it from oxidizing?

    • @GrainsandGrit

      The flour? I would store the wheat berries and then have them mill your flour right before you use it.

    What about renting a mill or paying someone with a mill to mill yours.
