Got some expensive headphones and broke the plug and I've been too lazy to go get them fixed for a couple of years now. Now I'm listening to the rest of the video with them. I can't thank you enough.

That's what I used to say .. like a person working at a place that sells head phones and you ask about quality. He says well.. you could get cheapest ones for 5$ that are really thin and will break in acouple months and have the minimal sound quality possible..exaple: have no bass all voice sound fragile.. straight garbage basically. Then goes up in price and quality though 3 or 4 brands till most expensive $100 dollars top quality wav compatible. Last about 10 years comes with 3 year warranty and code you can use in a website to download any 5 free songs..😁 right. .like I can understand if one is difficult to make and comes with attachments lights features for afew more dollars.but so many all different prices. And quality on a sliding scale. Just like what I said when one of my dope connects had two different qualitys some that's not that great for regular price and some 50% more $ for. That's like the quality of his usual real good stuff that should always remain regular price cause one should always strive to get top quality for all costomers at least at the standard going rates. But ...he did say he payed extra for the better stuff. So the company probly payed more for the beats.. than the skull candies..I'm guessing..right😎

I have only 1 person that always has best she can get and is always plugging fat. For along time . Good video!
I just repaired some $A10 earbuds with mic. They had separated at the splitter, after which the mic is on the cable to the left earbud. I thought I'd got it right, but then discovered (via a web site) that the stripey mic wire was actually a combo "copper" and blue coloured wire. I had to very carefully separate the blue and copper-strands (with a sewing pin actually), and then connect the 4 hair-thin blue ones to the thicker blue one coming from the plug. After that, copper went to join the other copper ones (ground in this case). The main point is, if you see a "stripey" wire, it's probably 2 conductors. The site I looked at showed such a cable (but RED and copper striped). I soldered everything, and bound all 3 cables together tightly before covering the whole thing in heatshrink tubing.

Your videos have been very informative, but I'm trying to do something a little different and I hope you can help. I'm actually trying to make my own PS4 chat cable for my turtle beach headsets. If you're not much of a gamer, basically I'm trying to fix is a single speaker (left) and mic headset. The plug is a TRRS has a red cable, a copper cable (with a green cable in center) and another red cable with a littler copper wrapped around it. I can't seem to identify the mic cable. On the turtle beach side, I have 3 cables; red (speaker), white (mic), and silver (ground).

First, untwist a portion of the copper wire from the white wire then connect in the following order:
      Red to Red,
      Green to Blue,
the Blue on the first wire listed above goes with the either the white wire or the copper twisted wires
Then the Copper wire on the first wire listed above goes with either the copper twisted wire or the white wire.
You might have to temporarily connect some of the wires to do some troubleshooting to determine if the copper twisted wisted wire goes with either the Blue wire or the Copper Wire on the first set.
      Good luck!

The headphones are fairly new and I don't want to get a new pair so soon. Is there anything else besides a short it could be, and is there a way I can fix it?

I have the apple earphones with remote and mic that came with a 2014 iPhone 4S (headset model DTY3483A). The first problem was the play/pause button would go off randomly. Then the right speaker quit working and then the left one got a short and I have to hold the cable next to the plug for it to work. Mic and volume and next/previous controls never worked on samsung (worked fine on an iphone of course). The wires inside are red, green, red/copper striped, green/copper striped, red/green striped with copper inside, and white (from where I opened the plastic the white wasn't inside the red/green striped). What order should I connect them in? And to convert from apple (ctia) to samsung (omtp) I would just switch the 2nd R and the S?

Hi, im trying to follow along in your video, but my headphone wires are nothing like the ones in the video. The headphone that i'm fixing has the standard copper,green,red,green-red, but the plug im trying to connect it to has 5 wires which are copper, green, copper-green, copper-red, and copper with red inside

    • @RichsMethods
      @RichsMethods  9 ปีที่แล้ว

Make sure the original headphone's green-red wire doesn't have a white wire inside of it. Take the copper with red inside apart from the red wire.

Take a look at your new plug. The following is the most likely set up of the plug:
Top to bottom - tip, ring, ring, sleeve.
Respectively this should be Left, Right, Common/Ground, and mic if under the CITA standard. They should be this way.
You original headphone is set up as left is the green wire, right is the red, a wire inside the green-red is the microphone, and the copper and the green-red wires are the grounds. There should be another wire inside the green-red wire. Take a closer look.
The new plug is probably setup as left is green, right is copper-red, copper with red inside (the copper portion only) is the microphone, and the Red wire inside is a ground. Connect this red wire and the other separate copper to the copper wire of the original plug.
I might recommend purchasing another plug to make it easier on you. The new plug you have listed has a setup I never seen.

Yeah, it seems confusing, but I managed to find some apple mic earbuds today, so i'm gonna try to use the plug on that. Thanks for the help and explanation and great video!

Hi RichsMethods I have a Logitech H150 and I want to change the plug with my unbroken samsung earphone, since it has a TRRS plug. I wanna use it on my new laptop, and it only supports the TRRS plugs instead of the conventional 2 green and pink plugs for the headphone and mic.
As I peeled of the wire on the H150, I have a green wire, a twisted red and blue, another twisted copper and blue, along with a red wire which is covered with copper and some thread. While my samsung earphones has only3 at first since there's a black wire covered in copper wire along with the red and green.
Please tell me which wire should go with each other. Thanks a lot! It would really be of much help.

I have a pair of Samsung headphones which had a problem with the ear loop so I decided to replace it with another ear loop. I followed the exact instructions. Since the ear loop I was trying to replace with had no speaker capabilities so I cut off the green "mic" wire. Then I exposed and cut off the insulation; burnt off the enamel with a lighter, wiped it off with my hand and then taped the two reds after winding them against each other...same dome for copper. Taped them individually too. No sound at all from the ear loop...the replacement ear loop had no problems initially...please help. I'm getting frustrated...

Dear rich... Thank u so much for ur videos... Now I have a clear pic in my head... But still there is indeed a small confusion... One of my skull candy headsets got broke.... And I figured out finally that the problem is with the plug... And I wanted to replace them with an old plug of mine from an old not working headset.... So in the old plug... There were 6 wires... 2 copper wires (gnd).. A red (right ear possibly).. A blue stripped (microphone maybe) and now for the confused part... There are 2 more wires... Blue and green.... So now my confusion is... Which one is the left and what is the other one for... But in the skull candy it's pretty much straight.. A red and a copper on one wire..( for the right)... And a green... A stripped green and a copper.. ( for the left along with microphone)... So can u pls help me out....
P.S....Thank u so much for ur other videos too... I gained a lot of knowledge from'em
