  • HI ALL This is just mostly on pickaroons . One thing i forgot to say that these were also made to push . see the notches on the heels and so on the point . i use the lite ones the most . oh another thing the effort in spiking a log to pick it up and pulling the spike out just adds more work . think about it you r picking up X weight the same distance john after sitting here and watching pickaroon videos i decided i want one made with titanium (light strong ) with a light small (not to big around )wooden handle with a bulb on the end of the handle . think ill call Stalto

70 degrees sounds nice, -11C / 12F and snowing here in Alberta, Canada. Nice collection of pickaroons. 👍😎 I'm a we bit of a pack rat hoarder as well. You can have something for 20 years and as soon as you part with or throw it out you need it. Damn that has happened to me so many times.😒

Hi John - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I've no machinery to assist me other than a wheelbarrow so lifting is a fact of life for me. I have a small hatchet size Stihl pickaroon that I used to use with wood on the ground but there is huge potential for spearing your lower legs if the pickaroon is deflected so I now only use it to pull/push wood on the table. Instead, I use 2 Husqvarna 30cm timber tongs that are much safer. The ability to lift heavy wood with one hand without having to bend low is remarkable and I couldn't live without them. They're not not common in the this part of the world and everybody who comes into the yard comments on their capability - but nobody ever buys them for themselves! There's nought so strange as folk, as the old saying goes. What part of the North America are you in?

Nice demo, thanks. I always thought pickaroons were for wimps. I was wrong. I’m 65 now so I got a Fiskars pickaroon. I love it so much I bought another one just for looking at, the other one is for work. I waited too long to finally get one. - N Idaho -

Being a cheap yankee I make my own picaroons. I buy old picks with good handles for cheap. Cut one pick off and shape the other with a torch and form on an anvil. A slight curve and I like a pyramid shaped tip. You need to experiment with your preferred shape.

I have a Logrite pickeroon that’s like your green handled one. I use it to drag rounds and picking them up because I’m old and can’t bend over. The handle on mine is smaller then your green one. I actually bought it for my wife but it wouldn’t work with her small hands. I’ve grown to love it.

Good video. My favorite is about the size of hatchet. Slight curve with a palm swell. Wood handles only.

That first tool and the other one that looks similar are called Pike Poles, not pickaroons.

hi there just checked i did call it that latter in the video . question if you don't have it on a long pole is it still a pole pike or a fireplace poker . or do you call something what you change it into , thanks john

I can't know. The thing about anything, it can depend on where you are from. Examples, a pickaroon and a hookaroon are two different versions of a similar tool, the differences in a violin and a fiddle. Even mandolins, ukuleles, and small guitars have got confusion with them.
