Ren, I gotta know, that line about the trauma model, did you hear that from. The band King 810 a few years back? That's the only other group of artists I've heard directly reference this medical condition.

I'm so pissed I only found out who Ren was a few days. This dude is outrageously talented. The industry is so messed up. If you wanna be on the radio you have to play the cookie cutter game. His been genius for a long time and I literally discovered him this week. How many other genius performers are out there unnoticed because they refuse to fit the mold ?
Tons. But that's not a bad thing you know. To everyone feeling disheartened by the commercial industry, I say: For every 'succesful' artist, there's 10 more talented underground artists, just waiting for you to be found. Goes for every genre too.
I'm originally a metalhead, and bruh there's 100 bands more talented and awesome than metallica no one has ever heard of. With people like Ren(and for me personally Hopsin) I'm quickly discovering that the same goes for rap. So yes, the industry is messed up. But rejoice! If you're willing to search, you WILL find awesome music EVERYWHERE around you!!!
when i first knew about him and stumbled upon his vlogs he used to do while he was really sick and going through it it was heart breaking that man went through A lot and I'm so happy he's on the other side now even when not fully recovered i hope his Canada treatment do him well

Sam is a genius too his cinematic skills take this to the next level. This one really hit hard left me shaken and scared for Ren. It is so honest and raw his pain is visceral. I hope he finds relief and allows himself space to be still in the moment. In my lifetime we have lost so many lyrical/musical maestro’s, Jim Morrison comes to mind. Hoping Canada goes well and treatments lead to light at the end if the tunnel❤

I think it shows that people are more open now to getting mental help but they are still muted by being put on medication

You dont get muted when being put on medication. The overwhelming amount of psychopharmaka doesnt even work that way.
Docs that want to treat mental illness as a clear cut, Problem --> Solution kind of deal are the problem. Not exactly the pills.
And its maybe just me but the overwhelming amount of mental health workers are not like that. At least not in germany.
Here medication is understood as a walking stick, not a "cure" or "solution".
It helps you go long distances, helps you train your legs. At some point you can throw the stick away.
I hope that changes for you, where ever you are :)

you're correct, he suffers from lyme disease, although it wasn't diagnosed for years IIRC. He was in bed 23 hours a day at his worst.

The line „sick boy sick boy bitten by a tic boy“ gives me the chills…a fucking tic bite made him catch lime disease, and since it’s so rare he got diagnosed that his symptoms are just psychologically caused….at 17….how can you survive 10 years with most of the time just being pushed to believe your crazy and suffering from the sideffects of medication that you hope will help you but could never help you, on top of very physical pain getting worse? It hurts me so much just to think about how he must have felt…it takes the strength of a superhero to go through something that cruel and end up being such a positive and idealistic person and instead of focusing on bitterness to focus on passion and joy. That fucking tic boy….it makes me sick boy.

Excellent reaction! I loved this vid too. I love the many layers and depth, he weaves such an intricate web visually, intellectually, sonically, eloquently, artfully (add the adjectives left out here), drawing you in. Like a willing moth to his beautiful flame. The boom! Blows your mind! I totally happily hooked on Ren!
It's like he stimulates different parts of your brain. (Like when you read a book or play a video game, your brain responds differently to each)...,for me it seems those parts he lit were starving..... I have never had any type of music that has immediately after listening , put me into a meditative state for a minute or two, of total silence like my brain took over to take the time for a moment of reverence, respect for what it heard and to cogitate the experience. Then handed back the reigns so I could contemplate and ponder it further. (Not to mention all the emotional & physiological response)
I am so amazed by Ren. There is CONTENT, meaningful & powerful & poignant content, to HIS content.....
I am so excited to see what comes next from his imagination!
My perception of his perspective is that he is coming from a place of integrity and authenticity and a wisdom beyond his years......

This is like my bipolar disorder but not the good manic days but oh shit I stopped taken my meds and I'm seeing things level! I swear Ren understands mental illness and auto immune disease because he has been there as well.....His talent is on another level that I have never seen.

I have a few autoimmune disorders. The main one being Lupus. It is hell sometimes! And you never know what a new treatment will bring. Sometimes it's nothing good at all!!

Basically, our bodies can get stuck in a negative feedback loop. Our subconscious can repeat patterns from the past which can have a pretty drastic effect in our biology. Essentially, your mind is making you sick

if you wanna check out more of Ren's music I highly recommend "Chalk outlines" and "How to be me", both songs that he did together with someone called "Chinchilla". those might be less experimental than for example Sick Boi, but they are REALLY powerful and have helped me through some tough times.
If you're looking for something more experimental though, his song called "Children of the moon" is very experimental but obviously absolutely amazing as always.
