Thanks for the information just a few questions 1) how closely together can you use the pre emergent peoduct you use and fertilizer? Let's say a 16% nitrogen one? Time them apart ? 2) you don't or can't use them in summer ? ( do they make a spray )? 3) how does this effect trying to grow grass ?
1. Same time 2. I don’t but you can use them in the summer. Granular only for what I use. 3. Do not use if seeding to grow grass. Will prevent that too. Thanks for watching.

Since you’ve got a warm season lawn like me, I think it’ll work just fine. Just make sure the product you choose is safe for st. Aug. read the label to be sure. Thanks so much for watching.
The fall and January application is what will prevent an outbreak in more mild climates through the winter and early spring. Poa seeds typically sprout in the spring but you have to apply pre emergent ahead of time to prevent it. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
This should work well in most warm season climates. The further south you are, you could likely bump the apps back a month or so. Just make sure that whatever product you use is safe on those grass types. Some are not safe on the 2 you mentioned. Read the label for sure. Thank you for watching and the comment. I appreciate you.
Applied to early for my baby grass PR/KBG/TTF mix and never really grew. I did another re-seed and do not plan on putting pre emerg down for 2 growing seasons. To much work to get it right then dealing with root pruning of the new grass. Although it works amazing i am gonna wait.
I use Prodiamine dispersible granules which is mixed with water and applied with a sprayer and have had good results. The trick is to learn how to distribute the spray at 1 gallon per 1,000 sq. ft. The best way is to mark off a 1,000 sq. ft on your drive way if it is large enough. And fill your sprayer with a gallon of water and start spraying to see how fast you need to walk and how far off the ground to hold your spray tip. An area marked off at 500 sq. ft. and your spray tank filled with a 1/2 gal. of water will work, too. Both type of pre emergents, granular or Prodiamine DG, recommends at least a 1/2” of rain or manual watering to activate.
If my Bermuda lawn was put in Sept 2023, can I use Spectracide weed stop? Plus, I missed putting it down in March. Is it to late to put down in April? I live in the south.
@@BudgetLawns So, I just need to pull weeds this season? I have been pulling every day and there is no end in sight. And, I will not forget the pre-emergent in September this year!

Appreciate your timely video, Question:im new Home owner, and have Bermuda grass, afte preemergent application after how many weeks is okay to apply lawn feed? In fall and winter time. Thanks.
Some crabgrass popping up in lawn, and grass started turning brown, so i want to know if I should apply lawn feed first or pre-emergent or both can be applied together? Fyi im from southern Virginia
I have been running late with watching these videos now that I have a lawn again to take care of 😁. I remember that song " I am a believer ", that's before your time lol. Great video as always bud. 👍💚🦸
How would you, “water it in”, if it is January? Or, do you just let the natural elements, take care of it, in the cold of winter? You’ve mentioned, how important it is, to water Spectricide in as a pre-emergent, that is why I ask. Thank you!
Great question. In January, I time it before good rain chances in the forecast. Even if that means putting it down a pinch early or a a pinch late. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
It does take some time and research to figure it all out. It is really hard to give each person a step by step because everyone has different circumstances. Many questions have to be answered before giving advice. I'd have to know your grass type and location and what fertilizer you plan using.
@@BudgetLawns well since we're answering questions 😅, I am from Iowa and Plan using that stress blend and the Flagship ( same brand )in the fall . How far apart should I apply these ? Also I am trying to grow grass. That product you use seems to have bad ratings, just an observation, it seems to work great for you. Thanks
Did you hear what I said about me waiting for my new sod lawn to go completely dormant before applying pre emergent? I covered that in the video. Not to be rude, but I make the videos with the info to answer questions so they don’t get repeated in the comments. Thanks for watching.
Thank you. That’s tough to answer without knowing your grass type and fall plans. This video best applies to warm season, southern lawns. Thanks for watching.
I learned that one pre emergent app in spring will not hold off weeds all summer. Weeds started appearing early Aug. even through the thick grass. Thinking I should apply April and again in mid June. Great video as always. 👊🏼
@@BudgetLawns What if you have weeds in August can you use post emergent and then pre emergent once you kill weeds already there how soon can you throw preemergent down?
I wanted to give this method a try but the granular pre-emergent isn’t available in Texas. I wonder why. The liquid weed stop post emergent is available
Thank you. I just use my stihl string trimmer. I leave a barrier between the grass and mulch so I don’t sling mulch everywhere. I don’t see why others don’t do that. I’d be cleaning up mulch all the time if I didn’t. Appreciate ya watching and commenting. 👊👊
Great stuff. I use the Spectracide Weed Stop on my exposed dirt areas on my baseball field to help keep weeds down while we aren't practicing or playing on it. I get a good 4 month weed suppression from it. I wish they made a bigger bag of it. Do you know if they do or another good comp product?
Thank you. That’s the only size I know of and haven’t looked for any comps. It always works so good I’ve never had a reason to. Wish I had more for ya. Thanks for watching.
It does, but I will shift my application slightly depending on rain chances. We get decent rain chances during those times of year, so I never have to water it in. Mother Nature does it for me.
Hey man thanks for all your good advice on your channel I really always enjoy watching your videos and I'm a lot like you I like pulling up weeds too LOL have a question for you though sadly enough my yard is pretty big my yard's about 28 29,000 square feet sadly I tried to do the pre-emergent thing but it just cost so much to do my whole yard with it if I always water cut and fertilize well that eventually make it a lot better with weeds I have noticed since I've been letting my grass get a little bet taller it is choking out the weeds better if I continue to do what I'm doing will that improve without me having to use pre-emergent
Appreciate the kind words. Yeah that’d get it expensive for sure. May want to just pick a small section close to the house to treat. Doing the other practices will over time help to choke out weeds as much as possible everywhere else. Yes, mowing taller with some grasses will definitely help. Bermuda taller can help too but it really gets its thickest when it’s mowed a little shorter. Hope this helps. Thanks again. Appreciate ya.
Thank you. Always remember to follow the label instructions for your area. If your weather is fine according to the label, then you are good to go and should see some improvement.
@@BudgetLawns I’m about 700 miles north of you. Any advice on turning mostly sand into dirt. I can water heavy and 5 hours later it looks dry. What can I add to improve my soil
The preemergent in Weed stop is for crabgrass and possibly Poa annua if you apply it in the fall. It won’t prevent any other types of weeds from emerging. The rest of weed stop is post emergent
That’s not true. The active pre emergent ingredient is dithiopyr. It is much more effective at controlling a variety of weeds than you say, especially at higher rates. The before and afters in this video show this. Thanks for watching.
Appreciate it. No I don’t follow the bag instructions. I only use it as a pre emergent and water it in. Therefore it won’t act as a post emergent and kill weeds. With that said, I wouldn’t double it. You could end up hurting your turf in the process. Hope this helps.
I can't find it now but someone on comments did math on this product about going heavy to have it potent like commercial products. And now I can't find it as I have 550sq ft and I need to put it down this Sunday right before it is scheduled to water
@@BudgetLawns ok yesterday afternoon I just put 2.5lbs on my lawn. The blades were damp. But lawn wasnt soaked. I haven't watered it in yet. The sprinklers are coming on tomorrow morning. Is this a way for it to stick to any weeds if I have any. I don't see any except maybe a tiny clover here and there. And then water it in to get the pre emergent in there for 90 days?
Great video, quick question. Does the Spectricide product work against POA? That is the one weed that I can not control in my Bermuda lawn. Gets me every year.
Pre emergent shouldn’t be used when overseeding. It will prevent the seeds from germinating. Sorry. Not the news you want. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
I agree. Strong, think, healthy grass (turf) will do really well to out-compete any weed (assuming that one is doing the proper mowing and watering along with fertilizing....as you so aptly stated). Too easy, right?
@@BudgetLawns Hey, man! Appreciate what you do. Very kind of you to provide all of this awesome content. I do not think that people understand how involved making YT videos really is! Anyway, keep on, keeping on.

Can you do a video on when and how often to sharpen rotary blades? Maybe some tips on that. My grass is getting that brown haze because the grass isn’t getting cut cleanly.
Thanks for watching and the suggestion. I’m in the same boat. My blade needs sharpened badly. In my opinion, your blade should be sharpened at least twice a season. Once in the beginning and a second about halfway through. If you could do it 3 times, that would be even better. Hope this helps. Thanks again.
Is this fall/winter time regimen applicable for regions that see snow? I’m new to the northwest Indiana and want to try to keep my yard as weed free as possible. Would you suggest any alterations or considerations based on region?
My videos are mainly geared toward southern warm season lawns. However, could be followed if you’re not under snow the entire time. If you are, you’ll just want to make sure to get a fall application down then a spring app after the snow melts. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.

Family over everything.....love it brother
Thanks so much bro. It’s never a question. One day when my kids are off to college, all I’ll have is a lawn. Don’t wanna regret missing the time now. 👊👊
Do you still water pre-emergent granules during the dormant period in fall/winter?
I time it with coming rain. So yes. Good question. Thanks for watching.
WAY cool! Thanks
Appreciate ya! 👊
Where can you buy the pre-emergent I’ve went to Lowes and Homedepot
I always get it at Lowes. Walmart should have it too. Thanks for watching.
Appreciate your timely video, Question:im new Home owner, and have Bermuda grass, afte preemergent application after how many weeks is okay to apply lawn feed? In fall and winter time. Thanks.
You bet. Is it a new construction lawn with new turf?
@@BudgetLawns No, its not new lawn, its almost 8 yr old
The window for fall fertilizer is closing. Get down soon. Then won’t need to fertilize again until May or so of next year.
Some crabgrass popping up in lawn, and grass started turning brown, so i want to know if I should apply lawn feed first or pre-emergent or both can be applied together? Fyi im from southern Virginia
He said you get what you get😂 I can dig it
🤣 appreciate ya. Thanks for watching.
I have been running late with watching these videos now that I have a lawn again to take care of 😁. I remember that song " I am a believer ", that's before your time lol. Great video as always bud. 👍💚🦸
It happens bud. Tough to keep up with all of em. Thank you as always.
I appreciate your content! I share your mindset.
Thank you 🙏. I appreciate that. Glad to have you here on the channel.
Nice garage
Ü
Thank ya!
When do you apply fertilizer when doing the weedstopper? This whole lawn care is insane. So much information. I need a step by step information.
Thanks
New home and sod lawn this past March. Pre emergent in Sept? Located in central AR
Did you hear what I said about me waiting for my new sod lawn to go completely dormant before applying pre emergent? I covered that in the video. Not to be rude, but I make the videos with the info to answer questions so they don’t get repeated in the comments. Thanks for watching.
Love the channel. I live in Denver. Should I wait until the lawn goes dormant then do the pre-emergent? Thanks!
Thank you. That’s tough to answer without knowing your grass type and fall plans. This video best applies to warm season, southern lawns. Thanks for watching.
Not overseeding this fall so decided doing a pre-em this fall around Sept. Cool season lawn , thanks for the info Travis
Right on buddy. Thanks so much for stopping by!
January and mid-March in Minnesota would be on top of the snow😊
Yes, you're right there. This is definitely geared more towards southern, warm season lawns like mine. Thanks so much watching.
AMEN...ounce of prevention equals pound of cure...esp re poa and crab in the middle tier of the SOUTH! OH, WDE !!
I learned that one pre emergent app in spring will not hold off weeds all summer. Weeds started appearing early Aug. even through the thick grass. Thinking I should apply April and again in mid June. Great video as always. 👊🏼
Thanks buddy. Appreciate ya watching and commenting as always. 👊👊
Do you first application in Sept - Nov. depending on where you live.
I’ve heard that before and not sure why. If the Lesco 0 0 7 is available then I’d go with that. Thanks for watching.
Another great video. Thanks so much for the info.
Thank you. Appreciate you watching and the comment.
i now nothing about lawns .is there a product that does it all?
cool
👍👍
Thanks for your time and content.👍
👊👊 thank you so much. Appreciate your time to watch and comment.
☀Great video! I, too, love walking in the evenings and pulling those sneaky weeds that have popped up. 😎
Thanks man. Hope you had a great Labor Day weekend!!
That edging is on point, what tool do you use for it? Looks like a good 2” barrier with the grass and mulch. Beautiful lawn, great content
Thank you. I just use my stihl string trimmer. I leave a barrier between the grass and mulch so I don’t sling mulch everywhere. I don’t see why others don’t do that. I’d be cleaning up mulch all the time if I didn’t. Appreciate ya watching and commenting. 👊👊
@@BudgetLawns I agree I do and have the same thing at my home just a maintenance thing is all.
Why a granular vs a hose end spray /pump sprayer? I know some say use both options
Good question. I just prefer the ease of granular. Takes less time. Spread it and forget it. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns I kind of guessed that but always curious why some chose one over the other. So thats a granulated that doesn't require watering after?
It does, but I will shift my application slightly depending on rain chances. We get decent rain chances during those times of year, so I never have to water it in. Mother Nature does it for me.
@@BudgetLawns love when that happens.
👊👊 the best.
Would this work in Southwest Michigan ?
Depends on if you’re covered in snow and for how long. Thanks for watching.
Great video. But hard to put down some pre emergent in Ohio in January lol
Haha. Very true. Definitely a different strategy for you snowed under folks. Appreciate ya!
I am a new home owner, my backyard is full of weeds, can I apply stop weed killer on May, I live in Florida?
You'll need to check local restrictions. But yes you could. Thanks for watching.
My questions was, Can I expect any improvement? The temperatura is high here. TY, I really love your videos
Thank you. Always remember to follow the label instructions for your area. If your weather is fine according to the label, then you are good to go and should see some improvement.
@@BudgetLawns yes, I bought spray orange ready to use based on your recomendation, TY, Ty. I let you know
Make sure you have the right grass for it. What is your grass type?
What temperature zone are you in. I’m in 4
I'm in northwest Arkansas...climate zone 4. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns I’m about 700 miles north of you. Any advice on turning mostly sand into dirt. I can water heavy and 5 hours later it looks dry. What can I add to improve my soil
Only thing I would do is topdress with screened topsoil to slowly start amending it.
What's up Travis.
What’s up. Hope you’re well!
Great info! Do you apply as prescribed on the bag or would it hurt to double the prescribed amount? I want to make sure I smoke the weeds. Thanks!
I recall that one, but can't remember where it is.
@@4rdzlla Yup. That's what the bag calls for. It'll stick to weeds to kill them as post-em. When watered in, it'll activate as a pre-em.
I believe 😆👍
🤣🤣👍👍👊👊
Nice job. I just started to upload yesterday. Trying to show people lawn care around here.
Awesome. Good luck to ya. Appreciate you watching.
Help.In virginia here, just put pre emergent, when can i put my seeds
Can’t put pre emergent down before seed. The seed won’t germinate. You’ll have to wait at least 3 months for most products. Sorry.
@@BudgetLawns 😔thank you! Appreciate you for what you do!
You’re welcome. Thank you for watching.
Great video, quick question. Does the Spectricide product work against POA? That is the one weed that I can not control in my Bermuda lawn. Gets me every year.
Thank you. Yes, it controls poa. The photos in the video show the poa control. I have had great results on it. Appreciate ya watching.
start 1:30
Thanks for watching.
👍💪
👊👊
Same reason I wore Condoms in high school.
Weeds will not defeat me!!!
But I’m on a budget so if I see some it’s ok 👍🏼
Haha. Always get a crack out of your comments. Appreciate ya as always. 👍👍👊👊

The neighbors know who is the king around here. The budget is a secret 🤫 😂👊🏼

How do I do this and still overseed a lawn?
Pre emergent shouldn’t be used when overseeding. It will prevent the seeds from germinating. Sorry. Not the news you want. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
@@BudgetLawns thx. If I have a lawn I inherited that is almost 100% weeds what steps in mid sept is first?
Just depends on your grass type. What do you have?
I agree. Strong, think, healthy grass (turf) will do really well to out-compete any weed (assuming that one is doing the proper mowing and watering along with fertilizing....as you so aptly stated). Too easy, right?
It really is. You nailed it. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Appreciate you.
@@BudgetLawns Hey, man! Appreciate what you do. Very kind of you to provide all of this awesome content. I do not think that people understand how involved making YT videos really is! Anyway, keep on, keeping on.
@@Cary_Shultz Thank you very much. Really appreciate that.
You showed Spectricide as a pre-emergent; what other”brands” of pre & post emergents do you recommend?
Spectracide products are all I use for weed control. Always great results. Haven’t had a reason to change. Thanks for watching and the question.
You just reminded me that I need to spray my simazine this month! 👍
Right on 👍👍 get er done. Thanks so much.
Huh… I assumed I needed a fall and late winter treatment… but this suggests I can do it twice before we come out of dormancy
That will also be good. The schedule in this video is a sure fire way to be covered most of the time. Weather, product used, etc are other factors that can also change things. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching.
WPS! I’m a big believer in preemergents. I put mine down when the soil temps fall to around 70.
Underwhelming game so far. Still up by 7. 👍👍 thanks for watching and commenting.
