30 days is a ridiculously long time to wait for a f2p release. Especially when they put rewards behind a character requirement. I am fuming every time I go into milestones and see rewards I can't touch regardless of my "engagement".
Hey DShorb, 30 days is a long time however I am going to keep track of how long it takes to unlock a character F2P using the methods I have thought up and I want to compare this to how it was before. Before I come out with the pitchforks. “Engagement to them means your wallet 85% of the time” I wouldn’t Fume over those milestones though they are the salt that is there to make the Horse Drink. To explain this analogy One of my peers at a Former job never believed in the saying “you can lead a horse to Water, but you cannot make it drink.” His motto was you can always make it drink you just have to feed it enough salt. So the pop up offers that we see in game and from the free claims they are their attempt to lead the Horse to water. If the horse or in this case the player is Thirsty they will drink and buy the offer. However the extra milestones or Whalestones as we proudly call them they are that salt that they feed the Horse to make them thirsty so they drink and buy the offers.
So I didn't cover that in the Video, However this was discussed in the call with Ryan. Dacier Gaming asked if we could have more 45 shard unlocks to help F2P. Basically the answer was no because at 2 stars a lot of the time the Characters are just too weak and so they would rather do them at 3-4 star unlocks. Now I am sure some of this is Financially driven. however Ryan did mention that they will be keeping an eye on the Live data and be Flexible (Which I took to mean that possibly more shards would be injected while still giving the spenders their advantage.)
@@thebigpositivegeek lol, that’s the point. If they are making this big change, at least give the FTP the 2* unlock. Ryan doesn't know how players play the game. This drip feed for character releases will drive players away. 90 days to get Orchis characters unlocked in order to play them all as a team is 100% BS
Hey Dorian, I would say they have data that shows them how players play. However the data we were shown in my mind wasn’t deep dived enough to understand the full picture. It was also on two teams that were needed for legendary unlocks and an Epic Unlock. I will be interested to see the data later on once we have say Orchis and Nightstalkers where the F2P unlocks are then. Or even some data for a new war team that they release in this method that isn’t needed for another mode or legendary. So question for you. What are you going to do currently are you quitting or staying with the game?
@thebigpositivegeek I've invested too much time in the game to quit. But I used to buy both passes and character releases (occasionally), now I will assess whether I will spend . . .
Shifting out character unlocks to 30+ days is extremely player/consumer unfriendly. Pass-buyers may be spending over $1,000p.a. but still would not have access to characters in a timely manner. From a profitability perspective it's also extremely short-sighted, at best generating a short-term sugar-hit: the game needs content creators to maintain or grow the playerbase; Content creators need a large pool of viewers to be able to dedicate their time to producing engaging content; to get that pool of viewers a sizeable pass-buying and free-to-play player base is needed (as this is still the vast majority of players). If you alienate those players by pushing out unlocks further and they become less engaged or stop playing, that chain collapses and the medium-term profitability of the game will deteriorate.
I do agree on the fact that shifting F2P character unlocks to 30+ days is incredibly player/consumer unfriendly. However speaking to my son who is a SWGOH player it’s very similar in that game too. You can buy the new characters day one and after 2-3 months you can farm a node that has a chance to drop one shard per time. But the “double farm” which is apparently what most players wait for in that game doesn’t come around for 6+ months. So I’m now left pondering have we just had it good all this time? I don’t know fully and I need even more time now to process this. I definitely hate that this hits Pass buyers and I can tell that this is a move to try and coax people to up-spend and ultimately this might cost them.
@clayquatermain424 I dunno, I’ve been doing some research into similar games (SWGOH and Raid) in both of those games it seems F2P has a harder time and has to wait a lot longer to access new toons.
They could have but remember they are trying to work to timelines as well. I'm not sticking up for them but by moving content that could impact other content that they have planned to bring to the game. Solutions seem easy but we are not privy to what they have on the roadmap ahead.
Ya know why we insist on that 8-10 day release cadence? Because that's about how long it takes to accumulate the resources to build a single character even haflway decent. They could have mailed us 500 shards for the 3 new characters in the mail and over half the playerbase wouldn't have been any more ready for Spotlight Raids than they were. So that is an incredibly lame excuse. So yeah we are going to hold them to everything they say, it's they only way to not get shafted any more than we already are. They've trained us to need every single character ever by making them lock this or that, and that in turn locking other things. Nobody buys a character cuz they look cool or a have a cool sounding kit as happens in other games, they buy them because they NEED them. If you don't want us to clamor for every single character then stop making them so damn essential. If 100 shard buyers aren't getting enough of an edge then sell a bigger unlock? Sell an exclusive costume with that unlock? Stop making F2P need at least 3 stars and make content we can do with a 2* unlock? I refuse to accept any of this "it's a business" crap when other games monetize far less and yet see greater success. Without justification beyond "it's a business" you can't charge these sorts of prices and expect us to buy the pity party as well.
Hey 88, I can see where you are coming from and I do understand it. I’m not as versed in other Mobile games as really MSF is the first one I’ve picked up and played religiously day in and day out. I did however get some insight into another game from my Son who plays SWGOH. While the “cost” in SWGOH is lower it would seem the current release cadence that they are now trying is similarly in line to SWGOH. He was telling me how F2P your looking between 6-9 months to get a new character. At the 2 month mark you can start to get the character but at the 6-9 month mark is where most F2P will unlock those new characters. I know they are trying to justify it by saying they are a business. In fact they were even blunt enough to say that F2P players don’t pay the bills. Always love to read your responses. Thank you for watching buddy.
Please tell the devs that this character release plan is abject, unadulterated trash. Why? Because the idea seems to be to introduce content that either can’t be accessed at all or has to be endured rather than played for weeks before the necessary characters are accessible. This is not FTP v spenders. This is about a specific type of spending repeatedly in order to access content. The incentive is that’s the way to actually play the game in an enjoyable way. What kind of strategy is this? Maybe if we make the game less fun, our player base will give us more cash? I can’t tell them what makes money, but I can tell them what isn’t fun: this!
Hey John, I will feed this back to the Dev's. One thing Ryan was very clear on to us is that Content will not be gated (apart from Legendaries) and I will be holding them to that.
These new methods for sick. For Thanos cored 7 orbs, I have opened 118 arena orbs off his. Sitting at 69 shards. 6 of which came from the milestone. If the next 100 orbs ( if you get orbs everyday til Thanos milestone goes). I will be only looking at another 4 shards from milestone and hopefully get 27 shards out of 100 orbs for the unlock. It feels extremely bad. That i am engaged like they say they want. Yet, I will have to wait 4 to 6 months for an unlock. Since Gladiator was the one. They gave the 30 day release of his team too
@garyjones1967 personally I don’t think there is a best answer there as it will depend on the team. If your F2P I think coring for the unlock of Arena and Raid toons is pretty essential. But Leaderboards are still very important as well.
Every time Scopely makes changes like this we have to look for new players in our Alliance for a while. They're relying on new players to stick with the game when they drop off at a moments notice.
Yeah its rough on Alliances I can see that right now. Luckily currently my alliance isn't having these issues although we did around the OML and Captain Britain Period.
Hard disagree with your position on the character release cadence vs Spotlight Raid completion. CMAA just did an interview with Mobile Gamer and talked about (among other things) how many sets of eyes review the blogs before they are translated and released. Someone in that chain should have seen the disconnect between the ability to complete the raid & the required speed of releases. It wouldn't take a degree in Callander Sciences to realize something wouldn't add up. Instead they were careless and caught. I appreciate you want to stay positive, but sometimes we have to keep it real!
That wasn't my position that was what we were told directly by the General Manager. Now could they have pivoted and changed the spotlight raid? yeah of course they could of but I think sometimes they also want to dig their heels in.
This is complete rubbish, if Ryan is concerned but things have been made rigid that is a problem on his end. People have the right to hold the company accountable and being upset about is a lack of integrity. Things coming back to haunt them means that the company is nowhere close to doing their jobs properly Add / or stating things effectively
So Ryan hasn't always been GM. A lot of these things I believe were done by his Predecessors. So he is now trying to steer the ship and Navigate between what has been said in the past and the way they want to take the Business now. This isn't me Sticking up for them. However I am willing to see what happens over the next 30 days.
It doesn't matter that he's new to the position, the company is the same. This is a classic corporate shuffle the chairs on the deck of the Titanic move. Although Ryan is new to the position whether he likes it or not he carries the past of the corporate decisions into his new role. The corporation does not get to wash away their sins so easily. Collectively the corporation needs to make better decisions. I understand you want to take a balanced approach and give them the benefit of the doubt, but there is no doubt, but the company continues to treat certain players of their game disrespectfully. They need to show us the players how they're going to take care of us not just with words but with actions. The fact that what they want to change wording reminds me something of what politicians did Canada hear many years ago were they decided to start calling handicapped people Handicapable, just passing the buck rather than solving the problem. This game has become more about resource Management then about gameplay. There's a lot of bad feelings about contact creators right now because some of them are coming across as shills for the company because it's more than just an obvious symbiotic relationship.
@bamesbameron oh I understand and I’m glad you understand that I’m trying to take a balanced approach here. I will say I agree that their actions need to speak louder than their words. Which is why I want to see where it goes and give this new direction a chance before I come out with my pitchfork. Yeah I heard about the Handicapable thing and I’m pretty sure Ryan Reynolds also took the Micky out of it in the first Deadpool movie. I’ll always be fighting for F2P but I think I just want to see how this one arises. This game unfortunately has always been a resource management game (or at least since I started playing it) if you want to keep up with the Meta. It’s a hero collector if you don’t care about the meta. As for Shills I couldn’t possibly comment but nearly all the people in the Envoy program now Spend either on Battle Passes or Character Unlocks or more.
Do you think that the Krakens really care? They buy their characters at 7 yellow day 1 and will have diamonds on them the following week. There is no way a 3 star competes with that especially now we are in the new Stat era.
First of all. Love the content! thank you for your efforts. Secondly, screw scopely! These insane money grab have pissed me off to the point that I stopped wasting my money on this game completely... Orbs that have a chance to not even have a character shard in them... and when we get a shard ... it's just that a single shard... Finally, you volume is low. can you please adjust it up a little. please. Thank you again... PEACE!
Hey Thank you for the comment. It saddens me to see this because you have put a long time into the game and being a mid level spender which is the level of spender they are targeting with these changes and these changes are not actually what you want to hear. I will fix the volume thank you. Thank you again for watching and the comment.

Lol , they arent making enough so they need to make changes $80 a month is way more than enough per player ,if they keep the original pass system they can happily get more consumers , a happy player will spend more . Come on now . This is absolute BS .
Problem is I think is not every player pays $80 per month. In fact Ryan did say this game isn’t a subscription service. I know I certainly don’t spend anything per month so to recoup my non spend someone has to spend $160 per month.
We've had it good until!? Bless your positivity Simon, I'd say we've just had it less bad.
@clayquatermain424 I dunno, I’ve been doing some research into similar games (SWGOH and Raid) in both of those games it seems F2P has a harder time and has to wait a lot longer to access new toons.
Regarding the Spotlight raid, Scoply could easily have waited before launching ot until after the Alpha Flight team was released
They gave the 30 day release of his team too
Hey Gary, Damn thats some Bad RNG you are receiving there buddy. I can understand the frustrations and I am feeding all this feedback to the Devs.
Next question which is better. Using power core on characters or horde for leader board events
Things coming back to haunt them means that the company is nowhere close to doing their jobs properly
Add / or stating things effectively
You can tell who the krakens are, they're the only ones that think this is a good idea😂
I was a mid level spender that has played this game since it's launch. NO MORE... the greed of scopely has killed the enjoyment level and turned me off to the game completely.
@@thebigpositivegeek it's an overt cash grab... and the orbs are insulting to ALL PLAYERS... I am so mad at scopely right now and it keeps getting worse...
Thank you again, Biggs. Love your content watched almost all your videos. Very good job. just wish scopely was as competent.
Thank you buddy.
Personally I thought his volume was absolutely fine
@RideshareOtter thank you buddy.
I massively agree that a happy player will spend more if they can and some players do spend more.
