    Memories...
I remember the Otis Elevonic 401 elevators that beep when you press the button and they beep when they go past each floor... and they bang, wurr, creek, and shudder as it goes up and down and they have the grandpa voice, but now they have been modded with Series M2

These elevators were updated in 2007, then modernized in 2015!

Still a stunning beautiful place, but I'd argue it was even more so back when this video was shot, with the lights on the elevators, the drapery in the atrium, and the greenery in the atriums. Nonetheless I'll definitely have to check it all out, even if the Elevonics have all been removed (but what they have now is still nice).

@stormsirens2 no, traction elevators use cables and a counterweight connected to a motor, the other main type of elevator is hydraulic which uses a pole that is propelled upward by pressurized fluid.

@dieselducy Hey Andrew, this has always been your dream since 1988 after reading the National Geographic magazine featuring the Otis Elevonic 401 elevators at this hotel! And you also noticed a VHS camcorder sitting on a AV cart. And in 1993, your dream became a reality! Darlene’s secretary got a Sony Handycam camcorder that she was willing to let you film these.

Wonder if any other Otis elevators use the MALE voice. I know Linda DeMartino was chosen for voiceovers in 1983, so this elevator must have had an even OLDER voice. If you could find out who did the male voices, or even the history of these elevators, that would be awesome!

These are the Elevators (#11 @ 30th flr) that one of the Mechanics I worked with as a helper (Im a retired Mechanic now) guy named Wayne Knight, lost his life in Oct 1995..
Reroping #11 car.. had counterweight landed on a 6x6 pine timber .. it broke.. counter weight dropped 16ft.. snatched Wayne & a cable down the side of the car 8ft.. the cwts were hidden behind a fascia as the cars were in the open atrium.. he was tangled all up in the ropes.. Atlanta Fire Dept worked HOURS trying to free him..
He died when he wrestled away from them trying to get a harness on him (his body & mind were just trying to escape the excruciating pain he was in.. it was HORRIBLE!! . his left leg was broken off in the hip & up behind his back with his foot on his left shoulder.. one rope wrapped around his head & his brain exposed from swelling)
All of those walkway balconies you see in the video were loaded w/ guest watching all of it unfold & all Atlanta news stations onsite filming..
He fell 30 floors in front of everyone to the lobby & splatted in the pit..
Wooden timbers have never been used by Otis since that day..
It was a horrible way to die
