Memories...
I remember the Otis Elevonic 401 elevators that beep when you press the button and they beep when they go past each floor... and they bang, wurr, creek, and shudder as it goes up and down and they have the grandpa voice, but now they have been modded with Series M2
they didn’t get modded by M2 they got modded by Otis series 7.
This happened for the hotel's 30th anniversary!
These elevators were updated in 2007, then modernized in 2015!
yep!
And here it is ladies and gentlemen! The birthplace of elevator photography
This is the video that started it all!
Just got back from this hotel yet again!
Wow, I did not realize elevators talked in 1993. That's pretty cool.
The first talking elevators actually date back to the 50s with Otis Autotronic
+ElevatorMan5482 ElevExperiencing Productions Wow. That's so cool. Talking elevators for the win.
The hotel looks awful dark
@@elevcarwashsirensandmore21 That’s because of the camera used.
Low light technology, amyrite?
@@therealerroredxd Probably
wow the voice when it worked lol awsome video
Amazing seeing how much that place has changed from 1993 to now.
well, not much
until last year!
When they got modernized!
Wow, this elevator really has been a favorite for a long time
I remember that!
Ah these classics. Bit different when the lighting technology seems to focus on the light out of the windows.
We got to see the original version of this elevator!
Still a stunning beautiful place, but I'd argue it was even more so back when this video was shot, with the lights on the elevators, the drapery in the atrium, and the greenery in the atriums. Nonetheless I'll definitely have to check it all out, even if the Elevonics have all been removed (but what they have now is still nice).
The Summer Olympics dedication was added to the interior in 1996!
i guess the marquis level used to be called the convenction level.
That is true
@stormsirens2 no, traction elevators use cables and a counterweight connected to a motor, the other main type of elevator is hydraulic which uses a pole that is propelled upward by pressurized fluid.
That is a traction elevator.
The original main floor call buttons were Otis Series 1 fixtures!
You did a lot of prequel videos of this elevator!
@dieselducy Hey Andrew, this has always been your dream since 1988 after reading the National Geographic magazine featuring the Otis Elevonic 401 elevators at this hotel! And you also noticed a VHS camcorder sitting on a AV cart. And in 1993, your dream became a reality! Darlene’s secretary got a Sony Handycam camcorder that she was willing to let you film these.
That is the story :)
One of your very first elevators. The elevators were upgraded twice
Yep
At the marriott marquis I rode the elevator to the 47th floor.
mk
it says different things when you get to the marquis level than it does these days...
Just came back from the same hotel
Wonder if any other Otis elevators use the MALE voice. I know Linda DeMartino was chosen for voiceovers in 1983, so this elevator must have had an even OLDER voice. If you could find out who did the male voices, or even the history of these elevators, that would be awesome!
Let's see what elevators feature the Otis male voice.
The New Talking Is Better Nice
What A Days It Was ?
Oh Wow, Very Fast!
Very!
All the way up, all the way down, going so fast.
notice how much better the voice sounded then than it does now...
That was the original voice.
This recording occurred a few days before Jurassic Park's opening!
A TALKING Series 1? That's got to be pretty rare
Nope, it’s Otis E401.
The motor in this clip sounds a lot more deeper than all of the other clips ive seen. It doesnt have that 360 hz hum.
I miss the old motor
@@DieselDucy yeah the old motor doesn't seem as noisy.
The new one before they had done the modifications in 2015 was extremely noisy.
@liftboy2 This is '93, not '92. What made you think this was a year earlier?
00:37 - 00:38 - 00:39 Going down
Yep.
If I bought a parachute, then I could skydive off the 47th floor!
I see that place hasn't changed much in the past decade-and-a-half.
But these elevators were modernized!
holy crap this was 7-ish years before i was born FRIRND
cool it talks
😊
Thanks!!
Why was the 90's so complicated?
What camera was this taken on?
Let's see what model it is.
woah that place looked 80s
It was built in 1984
Yep and it definitely has changed over the years
That was in 2007 and 2015!
ahh, the elevators look AND sound "new-er-ish" back then. espically the floor indicator! you can see the number!
pincriess
These are the Elevators (#11 @ 30th flr) that one of the Mechanics I worked with as a helper (Im a retired Mechanic now) guy named Wayne Knight, lost his life in Oct 1995..
Reroping #11 car.. had counterweight landed on a 6x6 pine timber .. it broke.. counter weight dropped 16ft.. snatched Wayne & a cable down the side of the car 8ft.. the cwts were hidden behind a fascia as the cars were in the open atrium.. he was tangled all up in the ropes.. Atlanta Fire Dept worked HOURS trying to free him..
He died when he wrestled away from them trying to get a harness on him (his body & mind were just trying to escape the excruciating pain he was in.. it was HORRIBLE!! . his left leg was broken off in the hip & up behind his back with his foot on his left shoulder.. one rope wrapped around his head & his brain exposed from swelling)
All of those walkway balconies you see in the video were loaded w/ guest watching all of it unfold & all Atlanta news stations onsite filming..
He fell 30 floors in front of everyone to the lobby & splatted in the pit..
Wooden timbers have never been used by Otis since that day..
It was a horrible way to die
That is terrible. So sorry that happened.
