- This is a step by step instructions on how to winterize a 2021 keystone cougar 290RLS - This winterization process used a combination of Air Compressor and RV Safe Toxic-Free Antifreeze Blend. My preferred Chemical is Propylene Glycol but a Propylene Blend Antifreeze will do! This Prestone Anti Freeze is "safe" to use on Boats, RV, and a Cabin Water Supply.

As a final safety, once the pump is turned off, I leave all valves open for winter. If there is water in line, this allows for safe expansion avoiding damage

However, even though I followed your instructions, it did not work at first. When I turned the water pump on, nothing happened. It did not suck the antifreeze into the plumbing system. Come to find out after searching the net that in my case the winterizing safety back flow valve needed to be pushed in using the fill screen cone inserted backward (the screen cone inserted toward the inside) to keep the winterizing valve in the open position. Mine did not come with one so I had to use the fill screen that came in the city water connection. As soon as I did that it solve the problem and it pumped in the antifreeze into the system easily.
Once done wintering, return the winterizing valve in the closed position again. Just remove the fill screen and turn it around or put it back in the city water inlet as previously found (cone facing out).
Hopefully this will help someone else that is experiencing the same issue when attempting to winterized their own Cougar 24RDS or similar Keystone RVs with the same EZ winterizing system.

hi....I've got the same issue I think. The antifreeze won't pump into the system. I turned that screen cone around and still nothing. I've tried it both ways. The pump is running but the fluid won't suck into the hose. Does the pump need to be primed? Any suggestions? thanks
@@BayBoy98 I've run into the same issue (not pulling RV AF into the system through the "winterize port" for lack of a better word). We did have to have the dealer hook up the black tank flush system correctly as one of our walk-through check offs, so I'm wondering if that's not the issue with the winterize function too. I hope not, given the $'s paid for our 5th wheel. Anyway, I'm thinking I may dump a couple or three gallons of RV NON-TOX ANTIFREEZE into our freshwater tank and trying drawing from that, as we are on a seasonal site and don't use that tank, but I'd rather not, I guess. I'll try GXB's workaround first.
Great video! If I just want to clean out my water heater with vinegar, do I still connect the winterizing hose to the winterization connection and move the Winterize switch to On? Or do you have a separate video for that? I have a Cougar 27SGS.
Thanks, perfect for my needs. 1st winterization with the new camper. My 2022 23 MLS Cougar did not com with low water hose valves (red / blue) as you show on yours. They did include it on the fresh water tank low point. Did you add those or maybe I just got shorted?

Cat collar… if you have pets (cats or dogs).. flea and tick collar- we keep the old ones and place them in our rv
Quick question? Why blow the lines if your adding antifreeze??

What is the model year of your RV? Does your RV has winterize valve like this one? And with a winterize connector? If not, then (maybe) the Antifreeze hose must be connected directly to the pump…
@@cbatilo I've got a 2020 Cougar 368MBI. The water panel looks just like yours. The pump just isn't sucking the antifreeze up the hose. I have triple checked everything. I think I may have an air leak in one of the knobs of the outdoor shower. I gave up and bought the Camco bypass winterize kit. Connects directly to the water pump. That did the job quickly. Still want to figure out why the Winterize port won't work.

Not sure why you used Antifreeze when the system was completely purged. Kind of unnecessary to be honest.
This is the time-tested method of winterizing RVs. You are guaranteed to not have a burst line due to freezing with this method. Four years ago I asked Bishs to winterize my RV while they had it in for warranty work. I told them to just use air because I needed to take it on a trip as soon as possible in March of 2021. We never got to take that trip because we ended up with a blown water pump and a blown out water heater! So, compressed air is tricky, at best.
